Product Description

Before you buy, check which MG ZS you have. The cables on this page are for the MG ZS EV, sold from 2019 to 2025. That car has a charging flap in the nose and a Type 2 socket behind it.

The MG ZS sold new today is a different car. The current generation is petrol or ZS Hybrid+, a self-charging hybrid with no charging port at all. It cannot use a charging cable of any kind, because there is nowhere to plug one in. If that is your car, you do not need anything from this page.

If you are looking at MG's current electric range instead, the ZS EV was replaced by the MG S5 EV, and our MG4 cables cover MG's electric hatchback.

The ZS EV uses a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Its onboard charger is modest by current standards: 6.6 kW on most versions, and 7.4 kW on the 2022 Long Range. A 32A cable is still the one to buy, because it charges at whatever rate the car will accept and works at every public Type 2 charge point.

We stock the Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable in 5m and 10m lengths. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable is available in the same lengths for charging from an ordinary UK 13A socket. More on charging from a domestic socket.

All our Type 2 to Type 2 charging cables are IP55 rated and our Type 2 to 3-Pin charging cables are IP67 rated. What the IP rating means. Every cable is CE and TUV safety certified and comes with a two-year manufacturer's warranty and free UK delivery. Using a third-party cable does not affect your vehicle warranty.

MG ZS EV Charging Times by Version

Estimated times from empty to full. All three versions are Type 2 and none of them can use a three-phase cable to any advantage, because the onboard charger is single phase.

ZS EV, 2019 to 2021 (42.5 kWh usable, up to 163 miles WLTP)

Maximum onboard AC charging speed: 6.6 kW

Cable Type Max Charge Rate Estimated Charge Time Our Recommendation
Type 2 - 1-Phase, 16A 3.7 kW 12 hours 30 mins
Type 2 - 1-Phase, 32A 6.6 kW (car's limit) 7 hours Best Fit
Type 2 to 3-Pin 2.3 kW 20 hours (approx.) Ideal backup

ZS EV Standard Range, 2022 to 2025 (49 kWh usable, up to 199 miles WLTP)

Maximum onboard AC charging speed: 6.6 kW

Cable Type Max Charge Rate Estimated Charge Time Our Recommendation
Type 2 - 1-Phase, 16A 3.7 kW 14 hours 15 mins
Type 2 - 1-Phase, 32A 6.6 kW (car's limit) 8 hours Best Fit
Type 2 to 3-Pin 2.3 kW 23 hours (approx.) Ideal backup

ZS EV Long Range, 2022 to 2025 (68.3 kWh usable, up to 273 miles WLTP)

Maximum onboard AC charging speed: 7.4 kW

Cable Type Max Charge Rate Estimated Charge Time Our Recommendation
Type 2 - 1-Phase, 16A 3.7 kW 20 hours
Type 2 - 1-Phase, 32A 7.4 kW 10 hours Best Fit
Type 2 to 3-Pin 2.3 kW 32 hours (approx.) Ideal backup

The ZS EV also rapid charges on CCS at a public rapid charger. That uses the car's own port and does not involve any of the cables on this page.

Compatibility

Two completely different ZS models share this name and only one of them can be charged. The ZS EV is a full electric car with a Type 2 socket and CCS rapid charging. The ZS Hybrid+ is self-charging, with a small battery topped up by the petrol engine and no charging port at all. The current petrol ZS likewise has nothing to plug into. MG's naming is a reliable guide here: EV means it charges, Hybrid+ means it does not. On the ZS EV, sources disagree about whether the 2022 onwards cars have a single-phase or a three-phase charger, so we have shown that honestly below rather than guess. At home on a single-phase supply it makes no practical difference: a 32A Type 2 cable is the right buy.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable is used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It’s helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It’s suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren’t accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. This is great if you can park close to the electricity supply and you don't need much length to reach your car this is a great option for you.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M should be sufficient to reach the vast majority of locations where you would like to charge your car. If this isn't enough you can always add an extension cable.

How to chose your charge speed?
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

If you are looking to charge your car using a 3-pin socket this is a great choice for you. The maximum charge speed for a 3 pin socket is 12 amps,  so this cable will be capable of charging at the maximum charge speed but it also gives you the option if you want to charge at a slower speed (Reducing risk and costs).

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.6kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.6kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.2kW. This is the maximum output from a domestic house. A 32amp charge speed will also be able to charge at all lower charge speeds (i.e 16amp - 3.6kW). This is a great choice if you are limited to 7.2kW or you only charge your car at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW. This cable will ensure that your ev charging cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. This cable is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
