BYD EV Charging Cables

Looking for a BYD charging cable? Every BYD sold in the UK charges on AC through a Type 2 connection, so a Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the entire range, from the Dolphin Surf up to the Sealion 7. There is no Type 1 BYD, which makes the connector choice the easy part.

What changes between models is the onboard charger, and that is the only number that decides how fast your car will actually charge. Almost the whole range takes 11 kW, but 11 kW is a three-phase rating, and UK homes are single-phase. On a home wallbox your BYD draws a maximum of 7.4 kW, which our 32A single-phase cable delivers in full. That makes it the fastest cable your car can use at home, and the one we recommend to most BYD owners.

All cables come with a two-year manufacturer's warranty, free next working day UK delivery and our price match promise.

All you need to know about BYD charging cables

    BYD Charging Cable FAQs

What charging cable does a BYD use?

Every BYD sold in the UK uses a Type 2 inlet, so a Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable is the right cable for the whole range. For charging from a domestic three-pin socket you need a Type 2 to 3-Pin cable instead. There is no Type 1 BYD, so you never need a Type 1 cable.

What speed will my BYD charge at?

On a UK single-phase home wallbox, 7.4 kW for almost every BYD, using a 32A single-phase cable. The cars are rated at 11 kW but that requires three phases, which domestic supplies do not have. The exceptions are the 44.9 kWh Dolphin Active at 7 kW, and the Seal 6 DM-i plug-in hybrid at 3.3 kW or 6.6 kW depending on trim.

Is a 22kW three-phase cable worth buying for a BYD?

Only if you have a three-phase supply. No BYD accepts more than 11 kW on AC, so a 22kW cable cannot push more than 11 kW into the car, and on a single-phase supply it behaves exactly like the 32A single-phase cable. It is worth having if you regularly charge at a three-phase point at work.

Can I charge my BYD from a normal three-pin plug socket?

Yes, with a Type 2 to 3-Pin cable, at 2.3 kW. That is comfortable overnight charging for the plug-in hybrids. For a Seal or Sealion 7 it will take well over a day from empty, so treat it as a backup for trips and visits rather than your everyday method.

Which cable length should I buy for my BYD?

10m suits most driveways and is our most popular length. Choose 5m only if your charge point sits right beside the car, and 15m or 20m for detached garages, shared parking or a charge point on the far side of the house. If you are unsure, size up, since a cable that will not reach is no use at all.

Will using a third-party cable void my BYD warranty?

No. A cable built to the IEC 62196 Type 2 standard and carrying CE and TUV certification does not affect your vehicle warranty. Our cables carry a two-year manufacturer's warranty of their own.

    Do BYD cars support V2L?

Most do. Vehicle-to-load lets the car power external equipment, typically at around 3.3 kW, and it uses a separate adapter rather than a charging cable, so it does not change which cable you need.

Max charge speed is the vehicle's onboard AC charger, which is what limits charging regardless of the cable or wallbox used. Charging station times assume a 7.4 kW single-phase home wallbox, the standard UK domestic supply. Cars rated above 7.4 kW only reach their full figure on a three-phase supply.
