Cupra Charging Cables
Every Cupra in this collection plugs in. The Born and the Tavascan are fully electric, and the Leon e-HYBRID and Formentor e-HYBRID are plug-in hybrids. All four charge through a Type 2 socket, so a Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the fitting you need. For the Born, the Tavascan and any 2024 on Leon or Formentor, order the 32A single phase version.
The exception is the older plug-in hybrid. A Leon e-HYBRID or Formentor e-HYBRID built from 2020 to mid 2024 has a 3.6 kW onboard charger, and a 16A cable already carries more current than that, so a 32A lead fills it in exactly the same time and costs more. Petrol and mild hybrid Cupras, the Formentor VZ5 and the Leon 1.5 TSI, 1.5 eTSI and 2.0 TSI among them, have no charging socket at all and take nothing from this collection.
Read MoreBoth carry an 11 kW onboard charger, which is a three phase rating. A UK home is fed by a single phase, so the car draws 7.4 kW and the 32A single phase cable delivers all of it. That fills a 59 kWh Born in about 9 hours, a 79 kWh Born in about 12 hours and a 77 kWh Tavascan in about 11 hours 45 minutes. A 16A lead pins either car to 3.7 kW and roughly doubles every one of those figures, which is too slow for batteries this size. The 32A three phase cable reaches the full 11 kW only where three real phases arrive at the socket.
Cupra changed both cars in 2024. The earlier versions take 3.6 kW and reach full in around 3 to 4 hours on a 16A cable, and nothing dearer improves on that. The facelift moved to an 11 kW charger and a 19.7 kWh usable battery, which draws 7.4 kW at home and fills in about 3 hours on a 32A single phase cable against 6 hours on a 16A one. Check the year on the V5 before you order, because on these two models the cable that suits one generation is the wrong buy for the other.
The Born has its flap on the rear right wing, and the Leon and Formentor on the nearside front wing, so 5m suits a park where the flap finishes close to the wallbox and 10m covers everything else, including a car that has to be reversed in. 15m and 20m suit a detached garage or a long drive. Our Type 2 to Type 2 cables are IP55 rated and built to IEC 62196-2, our Type 2 to 3 Pin cables are IP67, all CE certified and rated from -30C to +50C, or -30C to +60C for the 3 pin, with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery.

What charging cable does a Cupra need?
All four plug-in Cupras charge through a Type 2 socket, so a Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the fitting to order. For the Born, the Tavascan and any 2024 on Leon e-HYBRID or Formentor e-HYBRID, buy the 32A single phase version. Cupra has never sold a Type 1 car in Britain, so the connector is the same across the range and only the current rating changes from model to model.
Why does the year matter on the Leon and Formentor e-HYBRID?
Cupra changed both cars in 2024. A Leon e-HYBRID or Formentor e-HYBRID built from 2020 to mid 2024 has a 3.6 kW onboard charger, so a 16A cable already carries more current than the car will take and a 32A lead fills it in exactly the same time. The facelift moved to an 11 kW charger and a 19.7 kWh usable battery, which does want the 32A cable. Check the year on the V5 before ordering.
How long does a Cupra take to charge at home?
On a 32A single phase cable at 7.4 kW, a 59 kWh Born takes about 9 hours, a 79 kWh Born about 12 hours and the 77 kWh Tavascan about 11 hours 45 minutes. The 2024 on Leon and Formentor e-HYBRID fill in about 3 hours against 6 hours on a 16A lead. The earlier 3.6 kW plug-in hybrids reach full in around 3 to 4 hours whichever cable you use.
Do I need a 22kW three phase cable for a Born or Tavascan?
The 11 kW rating on the Born and Tavascan is a three phase figure. A UK home is fed by a single phase, so the car draws 7.4 kW and the 32A single phase cable delivers all of it. The three phase lead reaches the full 11 kW only where three real phases arrive at the socket, which takes the Tavascan to roughly 8 hours instead of 11 hours 45 minutes.
Which Cupras have no charging socket?
The petrol and mild hybrid cars. The Formentor VZ5 and the Leon 1.5 TSI, 1.5 eTSI and 2.0 TSI have no charging inlet anywhere on the body, so nothing in this collection will connect to them. If your Cupra has never been plugged in and there is no second flap on a wing, it is one of those and needs no cable of any kind.
Does a new Cupra come with a charging cable?
It depends on the model. Cupra's UK price list makes a Mode 3 32A cable standard equipment on every Born, which is the Type 2 to Type 2 lead used at a wallbox or an untethered public post, while the 2.3 kW household lead sits in an optional pack. The Leon e-HYBRID lists both as standard. A used car is a different matter, because the Mode 3 lead is the item a previous owner keeps.
What length should I buy?
The Born has its flap on the rear right wing, and the Leon and Formentor on the nearside front wing, so measure to where the flap actually ends up parked. 5m suits a park that finishes close to the wallbox and 10m covers everything else, including a car reversed in. 15m and 20m suit a detached garage or a long drive. Every cable carries a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery.
