Product Description

The 15m sits between our 10m and 20m cables, and it is the length most people reach for when a 10m almost works but not quite. Awkward driveways, a charge point behind the car rather than beside it, or public bays where you cannot choose which way you park.

We offer the 15m in two forms, and they do different jobs:

Does 15m charge more slowly than 5m? No. Voltage drop over a correctly rated 15m cable is negligible, and your charge rate is set by the car's onboard charger and the charge point, not by cable length. The full explanation is here: do longer EV cables take longer to charge?

The trade off is weight and storage rather than speed. A 15m 32A cable is heavier to coil than a 5m, so it is worth being honest about whether you need the reach before paying for it. Coiled, it takes up a fair share of a boot cubby, which is why many owners pair one with a cable bag to keep the connectors clean.

Need a different length? We stock 5m and 10m cables, or you can step up to our 20m extra long EV charging cable, the longest length we sell.

Our Type 2 to Type 2 cables are IP55 rated and our Type 2 to 3 Pin cables are IP67 rated. What the IP rating means. Our cables are built to the IEC 62196 Type 2 standard and hold CE safety certification, backed by a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery.

15m Charging Cable Speeds

These are the two specifications we supply in 15m, and what each delivers. Your car will charge at whichever is lower, its own onboard limit or the figure below.

Specification Max Charge Rate Range Added Per Hour Typical Use
Type 2 to Type 2, 1 Phase, 32A (15m) 7.4 kW Around 25 miles Home wallbox and public Type 2 charge points
Type 2 to 3 Pin, 6 to 12A adjustable (15m) 2.3 kW Around 8 miles Standard UK 13A socket, no wallbox required

We do not offer the 15m in a 16A or a three phase 22 kW specification. If you need three phase charging, our 10m cable is available in 32A three phase.

FAQs

15m EV Charging Cable FAQs

Who actually needs a 15m cable?

Drivers whose charge point and charging port refuse to line up. Long or angled driveways, a wallbox fitted round the side of the house, a shared parking court, or a car that has to reverse in. If a 10m reaches with room to spare, save the money and the bulk and stay at 10m.

Do I lose any power over 15 metres?

Nothing you would notice. The conductors are sized for 32 amps, so voltage drop across 15m is tiny and the cable still delivers its full 7.4 kW. Speed is decided by the lowest limit in the chain instead: your vehicle's onboard charger, the supply feeding the charge point, and the cable's own amp rating.

How do I check 15m is enough before ordering?

Park exactly as you normally would, then run a tape measure from the charge point socket along the floor and round the bodywork to the car's charging port. Never measure the straight line across the bonnet. Add a metre or two of slack so the cable hangs in a gentle loop rather than pulling tight on the connector.

Why is there no 16A or three phase version in 15m?

Demand at this length is almost entirely for the 32A single phase cable, so that is what we stock. UK homes are single phase and cap out at 7.4 kW anyway, which is exactly what the 32A version delivers. If you specifically need 22 kW three phase, our 10m is offered in that specification.

Can I leave 15m of cable on a wet driveway?

Yes while charging. The Type 2 to Type 2 version is IP55 rated and the Type 2 to 3 Pin version is IP67 rated, so rain and grit are not an issue. Do not drive over the run or trap it under a wheel, since crushing damages the conductors, and coil it away dry when you finish.

Should I take the 20m instead?

Only if 15m genuinely will not stretch. 20m is our longest cable and it is noticeably heavier and bulkier to coil and store, with no gain in charging speed. Buy the shortest cable that comfortably reaches, then add a metre of slack. Anything beyond that is weight you carry for nothing.

Sizing guide
  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
