Peugeot EV Charging Cables
Which cable a Peugeot needs depends on the year on the V5. The 2011 to 2020 iOn and the 2013 to 2019 Partner Electric carry a five pin Type 1 inlet, so both need a Type 1 to Type 2 lead. Everything Peugeot has plugged in since uses Type 2: the e-208, the e-2008, the e-308 and e-308 SW, the E-3008 and the 3008 plug-in hybrids, the e-Rifter and the e-Partner from late 2021, all of which take a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
Count the pins if the year is not enough to settle it. Type 1 is five pins in a round housing with a latch on top. Type 2 is seven pins with one flat edge. No adaptor turns one into the other, and a Type 2 lead simply will not enter an iOn.
Read MoreA house in Britain is fed by a single phase supply and 7.4kW is the ceiling, whatever the onboard charger inside the car is rated at. A 32A single phase cable delivers that in full, which is why it is the right order on almost every Peugeot here. The e-208, the e-2008 and the e-Rifter are rated at 7.4kW as standard, so cable and car match exactly. The e-308 and the E-3008 are quoted at 11kW, but that is a three phase figure and a home wallbox will still settle them at 7.4kW. The Type 1 cars are far slower: the iOn and the Partner Electric run onboard chargers of roughly 3.3kW to 3.7kW, so a 16A Type 1 lead already covers everything they can take.
PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel models have no charging socket anywhere on the body. Neither does the 3008 Hybrid 136 sold from 2023, which is a 48 volt mild hybrid with a 0.9 kWh battery and nothing to plug into, nor the 48V Hybrid version of the 2008. There has never been a plug-in hybrid Partner. If the badge does not say electric or plug-in hybrid, no lead on this page will fit.
Most public AC posts in the UK are untethered, so the driver brings the lead. A 5m cable reaches most bays and a wallbox on the same side as the flap, which on an e-208 sits on the nearside rear quarter. A 10m cable is the safer choice for shared parking or a charger on the far side of a driveway. Type 2 to Type 2 leads are IP55 and rated from -30C to +50C, the 3 Pin lead is IP67 and rated from -30C to +60C, and every cable is built to IEC 62196 with CE certification.

Does my Peugeot need a Type 1 or a Type 2 cable?
The year decides it. The iOn of 2011 to 2020 and the Partner Electric of 2013 to 2019 use a five pin Type 1 inlet and need a Type 1 to Type 2 lead. Every Peugeot that plugs in from the current generation uses a seven pin Type 2 inlet, including the e-208, the e-2008, the e-308 and e-308 SW, the E-3008, the 3008 plug-in hybrids, the e-Rifter and the e-Partner.
Which Peugeots have no charging socket?
PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel cars and vans have no charging port at all. The 3008 Hybrid 136 sold from 2023 is a 48 volt mild hybrid with a 0.9 kWh battery that fills itself from the engine and braking, and the 48V Hybrid 2008 works the same way. There has never been a plug-in hybrid Partner. None of these cars can use a charging cable of any type.
My e-308 is rated at 11kW. Do I need a three phase cable?
Not for home use. Eleven kilowatts is a three phase rating and a British house is fed by one phase, so the practical rate on your driveway is 7.4kW and a 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable supplies all of it. A three phase lead only earns its keep at a genuine three phase supply, which is a commercial arrangement rather than a domestic one.
Which amperage should I buy for an iOn?
The 16A one. Published figures for the iOn onboard charger sit between 3.3kW and 3.7kW, and a 16A cable supplies exactly that, so on this car the cheaper lead is also the correct lead. The 32A version fits the same socket and some owners prefer the heavier cable, but the car throttles the supply to its own limit either way. Type 1 is single phase, so 7.4kW is its absolute ceiling.
Is the e-Rifter the same as the e-Partner for charging?
Yes. The e-Rifter is the passenger version of the e-Partner van and carries identical charging hardware: a Type 2 inlet with a 7.4kW onboard charger as standard and an 11kW three phase charger on the options list. The 32A single phase cable is the right buy for either. The much older 2013 to 2019 Partner Electric is a different vehicle entirely and uses Type 1.
Do I have to bring my own cable to a public charge point?
For AC charging, usually yes. Most public AC posts in the UK are untethered, meaning no lead is fixed to the unit and the driver supplies one. That makes your Type 2 to Type 2 cable the lead you keep in the boot as well as the one you plug in at home. Rapid DC chargers are tethered and make the connection with their own fixed lead.
How are these cables built and sealed?
Every lead is made to IEC 62196 and carries CE certification. Type 2 to Type 2 and Type 1 to Type 2 cables are sealed to IP55 and rated from -30C to +50C, and the 3 Pin lead is sealed to IP67 and rated from -30C to +60C. Our guide to IP ratings sets out what those digits mean. All cables carry a two year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery.
