Chery EV Charging Cables
Every plug-in Chery sold in Britain uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Chery charging cable covers the whole range: the Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid, the Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid and the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid.
All three accept a maximum of 6.6 kW on AC, and that is a single-phase figure. UK homes are single phase, so our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable, rated at 7.4 kW, gives every Chery everything it can take. The 22 kW three-phase cable cannot raise that ceiling on any of them, because the onboard charger has no second or third phase to use.
All cables come with a two-year manufacturer's warranty, free next working day UK delivery and our price match promise.
Read MoreThis catches people out, so it is worth being clear before you buy. Chery UK sells both petrol and Super Hybrid versions of the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8, and only the Super Hybrid cars have a charging socket. The petrol models cannot be plugged in and need no cable at all. The Tiggo 9 is sold as a Super Hybrid only, so if you have a Tiggo 9 it plugs in.
Chery describes the Super Hybrid as working like a self-charging hybrid when it is not plugged in. That is true, but it is also the expensive way to run one. The petrol engine is generating the electricity, so a Super Hybrid that never sees a cable is burning fuel to do a job your home supply would do for a fraction of the cost.
The connector and the charge rate are identical across the range, so the only real decision is battery size, and that changes how much a slow cable costs you.
18.4 kWh cars: the Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid and the Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid. Both hold 56 miles of electric range and fill from empty in about three hours on a 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A 16A cable stretches that to five hours fifteen minutes, which still fits a night but eats most of an off-peak window.
34.46 kWh car: the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid. Roughly double the battery and 91 miles of electric range, so the same 6.6 kW takes five hours forty five minutes. Here the 16A cable is a genuine problem rather than a compromise: at ten hours fifteen minutes it will not finish inside any cheap-rate window.
Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable works from any household 13A socket at 2.3 kW. On the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 that is a full charge in about eight and a half hours, so it works as a real overnight method rather than an emergency one. On the Tiggo 9 it takes around sixteen and a half hours, which makes it a top-up for long stays rather than a nightly routine. More on charging from a domestic socket.
Measure from your charge point to the charging flap with the car parked exactly as you normally leave it, then allow slack so the cable is never pulled tight. The Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 have the flap on the rear offside. Chery does not publish the position for the Tiggo 9, so measure to both rear corners and buy for the longer one. 5m suits a wallbox beside the car, 10m is our most popular length and covers most driveways, and 15m and 20m handle detached garages, shared parking and charge points on the far side of the house.
Type 2 to Type 2 cables are IP55 rated, Type 2 to 3-Pin cables IP67, all built to IEC 62196, CE and TUV certified and rated from -30C to 55C so they can be left outdoors all year. What the IP rating means. Two-year manufacturer's warranty throughout, with free next working day UK delivery.
Which charging cable does a Chery Super Hybrid need?
Every Chery Super Hybrid needs a Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable, and the 32A single-phase version is the one to buy. It delivers the full 6.6 kW the Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid can each accept.
Do all three Chery Super Hybrids charge at the same speed?
They all accept the same 6.6 kW, but they do not take the same time. The Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid fill in about three hours from their 18.4 kWh battery, while the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid takes five hours forty five minutes from its larger 34.46 kWh battery.
Is a 22kW three-phase cable worth buying for a Chery?
No. Every Chery Super Hybrid has a single-phase onboard charger capped at 6.6 kW, so a three-phase cable charges no faster than the single-phase 32A cable. UK homes are single phase in any case.
Does the petrol Chery Tiggo 7 or Tiggo 8 need a charging cable?
No. The petrol Chery Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 have no charging socket and cannot be plugged in. Only the Super Hybrid versions take a charging cable.
Can I charge a Chery from a normal three-pin socket?
Yes, using a Type 2 to 3-Pin cable at 2.3 kW. That fills a Tiggo 7 or Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid overnight in about eight and a half hours. On a Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid it takes roughly sixteen and a half hours, so it is better as a backup than a daily method.
Is a 16A cable good enough for a Chery Super Hybrid?
On a Tiggo 7 or Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid a 16A cable still finishes overnight, in five hours fifteen minutes, but it uses most of a cheap-rate window. On a Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid it takes ten hours fifteen minutes and will not finish inside one, so the 32A cable is the better buy across the range.
What cable length should I order for a Chery?
10m is the most popular length and suits most Chery owners. Measure from your wallbox to the charge flap with the car parked as normal, add two metres of slack, and step up to 15m or 20m for a detached garage or a charge point on the opposite side of the house.
