The connector question has one answer across the MINI range, old and new alike. Every MINI that plugs in uses a seven pin Type 2 inlet and takes a Type 2 to Type 2 lead, from the F60 Countryman Cooper S E ALL4 plug-in hybrid of 2017 to 2023 through to the 2024 Countryman Electric E and SE ALL4, and from the 2020 to 2023 MINI Electric Cooper SE to the 2024 Cooper E and Cooper SE. MINI has not sold a car here with the older five pin Type 1 inlet, so age changes the charging speed rather than the plug shape.
What does move between generations is where the socket sits. The F60 plug-in hybrid charges through a flap in the left hand front scuttle, ahead of the driver's door, while the 2024 Countryman Electric charges through the right rear side panel. That difference decides whether 5m of cable is enough on your driveway.

An F60 Cooper S E ALL4 plug-in hybrid takes 3.6kW and nothing more. A 2024 Countryman Electric E or SE ALL4 has an 11kW three phase onboard charger, with 22kW available as a factory option. Every MINI Electric accepts 11kW on AC. None of that changes what happens at a house, because a British supply is single phase and 7.4kW is its ceiling, delivered in full by a 32A single phase cable. A 16A lead covers the F60 plug-in hybrid completely, since the car cannot draw more than 3.6kW anyway.
The current petrol cars that MINI calls Countryman C and Countryman S are 48 volt mild hybrids with no charging socket at all, despite the word hybrid appearing in the model name. They refill their own small battery from the engine and from braking, and no cable of any kind connects to them. If your car is one of those, nothing on this page will fit.
Most public AC posts in the UK are untethered, so the driver supplies the lead and the Type 2 to Type 2 cable lives in the boot as well as on the driveway. A 5m cable suits a wallbox on the same side as the flap, and 10m or 15m covers a socket on the far side of the car or a shared bay. Cables are built to IEC 62196-2 with CE marking, sealed to IP55 and rated from -30C to +50C on Type 2 to Type 2, while the 3 Pin lead is IP67 and rated from -30C to +60C.

Does my MINI need a Type 1 or a Type 2 cable?

The 2017 to 2023 F60 Countryman Cooper S E ALL4 plug-in hybrid, the 2020 to 2023 MINI Electric Cooper SE, the 2024 Cooper E and Cooper SE and the 2024 Countryman Electric all use a seven pin Type 2 inlet. MINI has not sold a car in Britain with the older five pin Type 1 socket, so the age of the car changes the charging rate rather than the connector.

My Countryman Electric is rated at 11kW. Should I buy a 22kW cable?
Not for home use. Eleven kilowatts and twenty two kilowatts are both three phase ratings, and a British house is fed by a single phase supply, so the car settles at 7.4kW on any domestic wallbox and a 32A single phase cable delivers all of it. A three phase lead only makes a difference at a genuine three phase post, which is a commercial supply rather than a domestic one.
Is a 16A cable enough for an F60 Countryman plug-in hybrid?
Yes. The F60 Cooper S E ALL4 accepts 3.6kW and no more, so a 16A Type 2 lead at 3.7kW already covers everything the car can draw and a 32A lead cannot speed it up. The 32A cable is still worth considering if the same household runs a full electric car now or is likely to, because it covers both without a second purchase.
What length should I choose for a MINI?
It depends on where the flap is. The F60 plug-in hybrid charges through the left hand front scuttle ahead of the driver's door, and the 2024 Countryman Electric through the right rear side panel, so nose-in or reverse parking changes the reach you need. A 5m cable covers a wallbox on the same side as the socket, and 10m or 15m covers the far side, shared bays and awkward driveways.
