Before you buy a Jaecoo charging cable, check the suffix on your car. It is the single most important thing on this page, because not every Jaecoo can be charged at all.
SHS-P plugs in. SHS-H does not. The SHS-H is a self-charging hybrid with a 1.83 kWh battery and no charging socket anywhere on the car, so no cable of any kind will work with it. The petrol Jaecoo 5 and Jaecoo 7 have no socket either. Only three Jaecoos sold in Britain can use a charging cable: the 7 SHS-P, the 8 SHS-P and the all-electric E5. All three use a Type 2 inlet.

Which Jaecoos can actually be charged with a cable?
Three of them. The all-electric E5, the 7 SHS-P plug-in hybrid and the 8 SHS-P plug-in hybrid, all using a Type 2 inlet. The 7 SHS-H, the 5 SHS-H and the petrol Jaecoo 5 and 7 have no charging socket at all and cannot use a cable of any kind.
What does SHS-P mean, and how is it different from SHS-H?
SHS is Jaecoo's Super Hybrid System branding. The suffix is what matters. SHS-P is a plug-in hybrid with a large battery and an external charging socket, so it takes a cable. SHS-H is a self-charging hybrid with a 1.83 kWh battery that is topped up by the engine and brakes, with no socket and no way to plug in. If a listing just says SHS, look for a charging flap on the car before buying anything.
What charging cable does a Jaecoo E5 use?
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 32A single phase. The E5 is rated at 11 kW but that requires a three-phase supply, which UK homes do not have, so at home it draws 7.4 kW and the 32A cable delivers that in full. Around 31 miles of range per hour of charging.
Does the Jaecoo 7 SHS-P charge at 3.3 kW or 6.6 kW?
6.6 kW, according to Jaecoo's own UK specification table and Jaecoo Australia's figures for the same car. Several UK sources say 3.3 kW, which we believe is the car's vehicle-to-load output mistakenly entered as its charging rate. Practically it makes no difference to your purchase, because a 32A cable covers 6.6 kW comfortably and would cover 3.3 kW too.
Can I charge a Jaecoo from an ordinary three-pin socket?
Yes, with a Type 2 to 3-Pin cable, at 2.3 kW. On the 7 SHS-P that is about nine hours from empty, which makes it a genuinely practical way to run the car overnight if you have no wallbox. On the 8 SHS-P allow seventeen hours and on the E5 around twenty-nine, so on those it is better treated as a spare than a routine.
Do I need a three-phase cable for a Jaecoo?
No. The two plug-in hybrids cap at 6.6 kW, well below anything three-phase would help with. The E5 accepts 11 kW, so a three-phase cable does something there, but only if you have an actual three-phase supply at home or at work. On a normal domestic supply it behaves exactly like the cheaper 32A single-phase cable.
Will using a third-party cable affect my Jaecoo warranty?
No. A cable built to the IEC 62196 Type 2 standard and carrying CE and TUV certification does not affect your vehicle warranty. Ours come with a two-year manufacturer's warranty of their own.

Max charge speed is the vehicle's onboard AC charger, which limits charging regardless of the cable or wallbox used. Charging station times assume a 7.4 kW single-phase home wallbox, the standard UK domestic supply, with the plug-in hybrids limited to their own 6.6 kW ceiling. The SHS-H and petrol models are listed so you can confirm at a glance that they take no cable.
