Product Description

At 20m this is the longest EV charging cable we sell, and it exists for one reason: some cars cannot park near the charge point. On-street charging, a bay on the far side of a car park, a long driveway, or a wallbox on the wrong wall of the house. If a 10m cable reaches with slack to spare, you do not need an extra long cable.

This is a Type 2 to Type 2 cable rated at 32A single phase, delivering up to 7.4 kW, which is roughly 25 miles of range per hour. It works with any UK home wallbox and any public Type 2 charge point.

Does a longer cable charge more slowly? Not in any way you would notice. Voltage drop over 20m of correctly rated cable is negligible, and the charge rate is set by your car's onboard charger and the charge point, not the cable length. We wrote a fuller answer here: do longer EV cables take longer to charge?

What does change is weight and bulk. A 20m 32A cable is a substantial thing to coil and carry, so most drivers keep one in the boot for the awkward locations and use a shorter cable day to day. If 20m is more than you need, the 15m charging cable is the next size down.

Need a different length? We stock 5m, 10m and 15m cables, or browse the full Type 2 charging cable range.

Our Type 2 to Type 2 charging cables are IP55 rated, so they are fine to use and leave connected outdoors in British weather. What the IP rating means. Every cable we sell is manufactured to the IEC 62196 Type 2 standard, independently CE certified, and covered by a two-year manufacturer's warranty with free UK delivery.

20m Charging Cable Speeds

This cable is supplied in one specification. The figures below are what it delivers, assuming your vehicle and charge point can accept them.

Specification Max Charge Rate Range Added Per Hour Typical Use
Type 2 to Type 2, 1-Phase, 32A (20m) 7.4 kW Around 25 miles Home wallbox and public Type 2 charge points

If your car's onboard charger is rated below 7.4 kW, it will charge at that lower rate. The cable is never the limiting factor.

Features

FAQs

Extra Long EV Charging Cable FAQs

What is the longest EV charging cable you can buy?

20m is the longest EV charging cable we stock, and the longest length commonly sold in the UK. Past that point weight and handling become the practical limit rather than anything electrical. If 20m still will not reach, moving the charge point is usually the better answer than a longer lead.

How long can an EV charging cable be?

There is no fixed maximum for a Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable. What matters is that the conductor is rated for the current it carries over that distance. This cable is built for a full 32A at 7.4 kW, so it delivers the same charge rate at 20m that a 5m cable does.

Do you sell an extra long Type 2 charging cable?

Yes. This 20m cable is our extra long option and we also stock a 15m Type 2 charging cable. Both are Type 2 to Type 2 at 32A single phase.

How much range does a 20m cable add per hour?

Around 25 miles for every hour of charging at 7.4 kW, provided your car's onboard charger accepts that rate. A car limited to 3.7 kW will add roughly half that, whatever cable you use.

Can I join two charging cables together to reach further?

Choosing a single cable that reaches is more reliable than trying to join two cables together. If your current cable is a few metres short, moving up a length is the simplest fix, and it is why we stock 15m and 20m.

How heavy is a 20m charging cable, and how do I store it?

Around 6.8 kg shipped, against roughly 5.6 kg for the 15m and 4 kg for the 10m. A cable bag is worth having at this length. Coil it loosely rather than tightly and keep the connector caps on when it is in the boot.

20m (this cable) On-street charging, awkward bays, very long driveways 7.4 kW 6.8 kg

Every length is Type 2 to Type 2 and rated to the same 32A single phase charge speed, so cable length does not reduce how fast your car charges. Choose on reach and on how much cable you want to handle.

Sizing guide
  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
