What type of charging cable does an LDV EV80 use?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and the 32A version is the one to buy. The EV80 holds 56kWh and its onboard charger is around 7kW, so a 32A lead at 7.4kW lets the van work at full pace and the van sets the limit rather than the cable setting it. It is the only electric LDV sold here, so there is one answer for the brand.

Does the diesel LDV V80 need a charging cable?

No. The V80 is a diesel panel van with no traction battery and no charging port, so nothing on this page will plug into it. If your van has a fuel filler and no charge flap on the bodywork, you do not need a cable at all. Only the EV80 charges, and it was the last electric van to carry the LDV name before the brand became Maxus here in April 2020.

How long does an LDV EV80 take to charge?

Roughly seven hours from a 7.4kW wallbox on a 32A cable, which is the figure on our compatibility chart for the 56kWh pack. A 16A lead at 3.7kW stretches that to about seventeen hours. A Type 2 to 3 Pin cable at 2.3kW needs well over a day from empty, so plan the van's week around the 32A cable.

Is the 16A cable good enough for an EV80?

Not really. At 3.7kW it delivers barely half of what the van will accept, so 56kWh takes about seventeen hours instead of around seven. It only makes sense where the charge point itself is limited to 16A and you have no choice. Otherwise the small saving on the cable costs an entire extra night of charging every time the van runs low.

Do I need a three phase cable for an LDV EV80?

No. The van accepts around 7kW on AC, so a 22kW three phase cable fits and finishes no sooner. A UK home supply is single phase in any case, which holds every vehicle to 7.4kW on a driveway. The 32A single phase cable is the sensible buy, and the three phase lead adds nothing on this van.

What about rapid charging on the EV80?

The van carries a CCS inlet for rapid charging at around 30kW. That connection is DC and the unit provides its own attached lead, so there is nothing to buy for it. The Type 2 to 3 Pin cable is worth owning as a backstop for a site with no charge point, but at 2.3kW treat it as insurance rather than a way to run a van.

What lengths does the EV80 cable come in?

The 32A single phase cable comes in 5m and 10m, and is also stocked in 15m and 20m for yards and long driveways. Type 2 to Type 2 cables are IP55 rated and Type 2 to 3 Pin cables are IP67. All are CE certified and come with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery.
