Product Description

Stop and check one thing before you buy anything. There are three different Jaecoo 7s on sale in Britain and only one of them can be charged.

Jaecoo 7 SHS-P is the plug-in hybrid, with an 18.3 kWh battery, 56 electric miles and a charging flap. This is the one that needs a cable. The Jaecoo 7 SHS-H is a self-charging hybrid: 1.83 kWh battery, topped up by the engine and by braking, and no charging socket anywhere on the car. The Jaecoo 7 petrol has no socket either. If you have an SHS-H or a petrol 7, no cable on this website or any other will connect to it.

The suffix is the giveaway. If your paperwork says SHS without one, walk round to the front wing and look for a flap. No flap, no cable.

Assuming you have the SHS-P, the answer is our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The car's onboard charger is rated at 6.6 kW, and a 32A cable carries 7.4 kW, so it covers that ceiling completely with a little to spare. Full charge in about three and a quarter hours, roughly 20 electric miles added per hour.

You will find UK sources claiming the 7 SHS-P charges at 3.3 kW rather than 6.6. We have gone with 6.6 kW because Jaecoo's own UK specification table states it, and Jaecoo Australia publishes the same figure for the identical car with the same 18.3 kWh battery. Our reading is that the 3.3 kW figure is the car's vehicle-to-load output, which powers a socket in the boot, and that it has been copied into the charging column by mistake. Fortunately a 32A cable is right under either number.

What a 16A cable does here is hold the car to 3.7 kW, which stretches the charge to five and a half hours and drops you to 11 electric miles per hour. On a plug-in hybrid, where the whole point is topping up quickly and often, that is a meaningful step backwards for a small saving.

A three-phase cable is pointless on this car. 6.6 kW is well below where three-phase capability starts to matter.

Because the battery is small, our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable is a serious option rather than an afterthought: nine hours from empty on a household socket, so a plug-in overnight covers it. If you have no wallbox and no plans for one, a 3-pin cable will keep a 7 SHS-P running on electricity for local journeys.

How do I know whether my Jaecoo 7 can be charged at all?

Look for the suffix on your V5C or order paperwork. SHS-P plugs in. SHS-H does not, and neither does the petrol model. If the paperwork is unclear, check the front wing for a charging flap. The SHS-H has a 1.83 kWh battery that is charged entirely by the engine and by regenerative braking, with no external socket of any kind.

Why do some websites say the Jaecoo 7 charges at 3.3 kW?

We believe they have picked up the car's vehicle-to-load output and listed it as the charging rate. Jaecoo's UK spec table and Jaecoo Australia both state 6.6 kW AC for this car, which is two manufacturer sources in different markets agreeing. It does not change your purchase either way, since a 32A cable comfortably covers 6.6 kW.

Is a 32A cable overkill when the car only takes 6.6 kW?

No, it is the correct match. A 16A cable carries only 3.7 kW and would cap the car below what it can accept. The 32A cable carries 7.4 kW, so the car takes its full 6.6 kW and the small amount of unused headroom costs you nothing.

How often should I be charging a 7 SHS-P?

Ideally every day you can. With 56 electric miles the car covers most commutes without starting the engine, and at three and a quarter hours on a 32A cable you can plug in after work and be full before bed. A plug-in hybrid that is never charged is simply a heavy petrol SUV.

Where is the charging socket on a Jaecoo 7?

On the front wing. On a 4.5 metre SUV that means a 5m cable works if your wallbox is at the front of the parking space, but many owners who reverse onto a driveway find 10m removes the guesswork.

Can a three-pin cable be my only cable?

On this car, plausibly yes. Nine hours from empty means an overnight charge fills it, and you would be adding around 50 electric miles a night. A wallbox and 32A cable is quicker and cheaper to run on an off-peak tariff, but the 3-pin route is genuinely viable on an 18.3 kWh battery in a way it is not on a full EV.

Only the SHS-P plugs in. The SHS-H is a self-charging hybrid with no external socket, and the petrol car has none either. On the SHS-P a 32A cable carries 7.4 kW, which covers the car's 6.6 kW ceiling in full. A three-phase cable offers nothing on this model.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

    A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

    This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. This is great if you can park close to the electricity supply and you don't need much length to reach your car this is a great option for you.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M should be sufficient to reach the vast majority of locations where you would like to charge your car. If this isn't enough you can always add an extension cable.

How to chose your charge speed?
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    If you are looking to charge your car using a 3-pin socket this is a great choice for you. The maximum charge speed for a 3 pin socket is 12 amps,  so this cable will be capable of charging at the maximum charge speed but it also gives you the option if you want to charge at a slower speed (Reducing risk and costs).

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.6kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.6kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.2kW. This is the maximum output from a domestic house. A 32amp charge speed will also be able to charge at all lower charge speeds (i.e 16amp - 3.6kW). This is a great choice if you are limited to 7.2kW or you only charge your car at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW. This cable will ensure that your ev charging cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. This cable is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
