Product Description

At 35.36 kWh, the Omoda 9 SHS-P carries the largest battery of any plug-in Omoda, good for 93 miles of electric running on the WLTP cycle before the petrol engine is asked for anything. A pack that size rewards a proper cable and punishes a slow one, which is why the lead you order matters more here than on almost any other hybrid.

There is also nothing to check. Omoda builds the 9 as a plug-in hybrid and nothing else, with no petrol or self-charging alternative here, so every car wearing the badge charges from the mains.

That lead is a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Type 2 is the AC fitting on British home wallboxes and on untethered public posts, so the connector is settled before you start. What is left to decide is current rating and length.

The car's 6.6 kW ceiling applies to one phase, which is what a British house is fed with. Our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable is rated to 7.4 kW, sitting comfortably above that ceiling, so the Omoda 9 draws everything it is capable of and empty to full takes about six hours. Spending more on the 32A three-phase lead buys a 22 kW headline and no extra speed: the onboard charger has no second or third phase wired to it, so the two additional conductors reach the car and find nothing to connect to. Six hours either way.

The 16A lead is the one that costs you. Restricted to 3.7 kW, an empty Omoda 9 needs ten and a half hours, which overruns every cheap-rate window on sale. Either the tail of the charge lands on full-price electricity, or you leave in the morning with part of the 93 miles missing and burn fuel to replace it, which defeats the point of a battery this large.

Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable pulls 2.3 kW out of a household socket, worth roughly six miles of electric range an hour and around seventeen hours for a complete fill. Read it as a way of gaining miles while parked somewhere for a day or two with no charge point nearby, rather than an overnight method. It is IP67 sealed and coils away into the boot.

The Omoda 7 shares the same 6.6 kW ceiling but half the battery, so it is done in roughly three hours, while the battery-electric Omoda E5 accepts more still. Everything we stock for the marque sits in the Omoda charging cable range.

Length turns on a detail worth knowing. Omoda's published specification puts the flap at the rear on the nearside, which is the opposite corner to the Omoda 7, so anyone moving up from the smaller car should not assume the old routine still works. Park as you normally do, run a tape from the wallbox to that corner and leave enough spare that the lead never pulls tight. 10m suits most driveways, while 15m and 20m exist for detached garages, communal bays and awkwardly sited wallboxes. The times above use 34.46 kWh of usable capacity from the 35.36 kWh pack, with hourly mileage worked out from the 93 mile WLTP electric range. Both cold weather and sustained high speeds cut this figure.

Does the Omoda 9 plug in?

Yes, the Omoda 9 plugs in, because the SHS-P plug-in hybrid is the only version Omoda sells here. It carries a Type 2 socket and runs on mains electricity. Where the Omoda 5 and Omoda 7 arrive in more than one drivetrain, no petrol or self-charging 9 exists to confuse it with.

What charging cable do I need for an Omoda 9?

An Omoda 9 needs a 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. That rating hands the car the whole 6.6 kW its onboard charger will accept and puts 35.36 kWh back in roughly six hours, so a flat pack is full again by morning.

Why is a 16A cable a bad idea on an Omoda 9?

A 16A cable holds the Omoda 9 to 3.7 kW, which turns a full charge into a ten and a half hour job. Cheap overnight rates never run that far, so the last stretch gets billed at the standard price, or you drive off short of the full 93 miles and let the petrol engine cover the difference.

Will a three-phase cable help an Omoda 9?

No, a three-phase cable does nothing for an Omoda 9. Its onboard charger is a single-phase unit that stops at 6.6 kW, so the 22 kW written on the box is never reached and a charge still takes six hours. The extra outlay buys conductors the car has no way of switching on.

How much electric range does one cheap-rate window give an Omoda 9?

An Omoda 9 gains close to 90 miles across a five hour cheap-rate window with a 32A cable, at roughly 18 miles for every hour it stays plugged in. That is very nearly the whole 93 mile WLTP figure in one sitting. Drop to 16A and those five hours hand back about 50 miles instead.

How long a cable does an Omoda 9 need?

Ten metres covers most Omoda 9 owners. Omoda lists the charge flap at the rear on the nearside, the opposite corner to the Omoda 7, so an owner trading up should measure again rather than repeat an old habit. Run a tape from the wallbox to that corner with the car sitting where you always leave it, allow a comfortable margin, then step to 15m or 20m for a detached garage or a charge point across the house.

The Omoda 9 is sold in the UK as a plug-in hybrid only, with one battery and one onboard charger, so there is nothing to check before ordering. At 35.36 kWh the battery is roughly double the Omoda 7's, which is why a 16A cable is not adequate here. The 32A single-phase cable delivers the car's full 6.6 kW and a three-phase cable cannot exceed it.

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. This is great if you can park close to the electricity supply and you don't need much length to reach your car this is a great option for you.

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M should be sufficient to reach the vast majority of locations where you would like to charge your car. If this isn't enough you can always add an extension cable.

How to chose your charge speed?
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    If you are looking to charge your car using a 3-pin socket this is a great choice for you. The maximum charge speed for a 3 pin socket is 12 amps,  so this cable will be capable of charging at the maximum charge speed but it also gives you the option if you want to charge at a slower speed (Reducing risk and costs).

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.6kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.6kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.2kW. This is the maximum output from a domestic house. A 32amp charge speed will also be able to charge at all lower charge speeds (i.e 16amp - 3.6kW). This is a great choice if you are limited to 7.2kW or you only charge your car at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW. This cable will ensure that your ev charging cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. This cable is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
