Product Description

Charging an Omoda 7 SHS-P is a small job: 18.4 kWh of battery, 56 miles of electric range, and about three hours from empty on a 32A cable. Three hours slots into an off-peak window with hours to spare, and it means the choice in front of you is simply which current rating and which length, not how to build your evening around a charger.

One check before you order. Only the Omoda 7 SHS-P plugs in, because the P suffix is the plug-in hybrid and the petrol car and the self-charging SHS-H have no socket to connect to. A flap on the rear wing opening onto a Type 2 socket is the confirmation you want.

After that the specification is short and the same for everybody. Every UK car runs one 18.4 kWh battery behind one onboard charger, which accepts 6.6 kW on AC, so Knight, Noble and Noble Tech charge at identical speeds and the trim on your V5C changes the equipment list and nothing else. The socket is Type 2, so the cable is a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, the AC standard fitted to home wallboxes and untethered public posts alike. There is no trim-specific version to hunt for.

Order our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Rated at 7.4 kW it leaves headroom above the 6.6 kW the Omoda 7 accepts, so the car charges flat out and goes from empty to full in about three hours, roughly 21 miles of electric range for each hour it is plugged in. The 22 kW three-phase version buys nothing here: you pay for two additional live conductors, the SHS-P charger is built around a single phase and cannot address them, and the electricity board brings just one phase into a British house anyway. Single phase or three, the clock still reads three hours.

A 16A lead is the halfway option at 3.7 kW and five hours fifteen minutes. That is fine when the car sits on the drive from six in the evening until seven the next morning. It bites on the evening you get home at nine, want the full 56 miles back, and are going out again before the charge has finished. The 32A cable takes that constraint away. The 16A one asks you to plan around it.

The Type 2 to 3-Pin cable is a real overnight option on a battery this small rather than a last resort. From a standard 13A socket it takes 2.3 kW, returns about seven miles of electric range each hour and completes a full charge in roughly eight and a half hours, which sits comfortably inside a night's sleep or an office day. Take it to a hotel, to relatives or to a workplace with nothing but a wall socket and you still start the next morning on electricity. The casing is IP67 rated, so an outdoor socket in the rain is no obstacle.

On length, the flap sits on the rear offside of the Omoda 7, tucked in behind the rear wheel. Park where you always park, run a tape from the wallbox round to that flap, and pick a size that lets the lead lie loose rather than stretched. 5m is enough when the box is mounted right beside the socket, 10m is what most owners settle on, and 15m or 20m reach detached garages, communal bays and charge points on the far wall of the house.

Elsewhere in the family, the Omoda 9 is the larger plug-in hybrid with close to twice the battery, while the Omoda E5 is fully electric and behaves differently again. Every fit is listed in the Omoda charging cable range.

Charge times assume 17.5 kWh usable from the 18.4 kWh pack, and the hourly mileage comes from the 56 mile WLTP electric range. Winter temperatures and motorway cruising will both reduce it.

Does the Omoda 7 need a charging cable?

Only the SHS-P version does, since that is the plug-in hybrid and it carries a Type 2 socket behind a flap on the rear offside. The petrol Omoda 7 has nowhere to plug a lead in. If the badge or the V5C ends in P, order a cable.

Which cable is right for an Omoda 7 SHS-P?

A 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. It covers the 6.6 kW the car accepts with a little headroom to spare and empties the decision of any further complication, returning the 18.4 kWh battery to full in about three hours. Put the thought you save into measuring for the right length.

Should I buy a three-phase cable for an Omoda 7?

No. The SHS-P charger runs on one phase with a 6.6 kW ceiling, so a 22 kW lead gives you exactly the same three hour charge that the 32A single-phase cable does. A British house is fed by one phase in any case, which leaves the additional conductors idle at both ends of the cable.

Do the Omoda 7 trims charge at different speeds?

Which cable length suits an Omoda 7?

Most Omoda 7 owners are best served by 10m. Its charge flap sits behind the offside rear wheel, so run a tape to that point from the wallbox with the car in its usual position, then allow a comfortable margin. 5m is fine when the wallbox sits right next to it, while 15m and 20m reach detached garages, shared parking and awkwardly sited charge points.

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. This is great if you can park close to the electricity supply and you don't need much length to reach your car this is a great option for you.

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M should be sufficient to reach the vast majority of locations where you would like to charge your car. If this isn't enough you can always add an extension cable.

How to chose your charge speed?
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    If you are looking to charge your car using a 3-pin socket this is a great choice for you. The maximum charge speed for a 3 pin socket is 12 amps,  so this cable will be capable of charging at the maximum charge speed but it also gives you the option if you want to charge at a slower speed (Reducing risk and costs).

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.6kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.6kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.2kW. This is the maximum output from a domestic house. A 32amp charge speed will also be able to charge at all lower charge speeds (i.e 16amp - 3.6kW). This is a great choice if you are limited to 7.2kW or you only charge your car at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW. This cable will ensure that your ev charging cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. This cable is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
