Product Description

A Skoda Superb iV charging cable has two completely different cars to answer to. The hatch and estate launched here in January 2020 accept 3.6 kW, single phase and will not go a watt above it. The estate that opened for UK orders on 11 July 2024 accepts 11 kW, three phase, which lands at 7.4 kW on a British home supply. Same three letters on the tailgate, four times the battery, and opposite answers to nearly every question a buyer asks.

Both take a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, so the connector is the one thing the two generations agree on.

Start with the 2020 car, because it is the one people overspend on. Its charger is fixed at 3.6 kW, and Skoda's own timing proves the point: about 3 hours 30 mins from a wallbox whether the supply is rated 3.7, 7.4, 11 or 22 kW. A 16A lead already delivers 3.7 kW, so the cheapest Type 2 cable we sell gives this car everything it can take and a higher rating buys literally nothing. The second surprise is where the lead has to reach. Skoda hid the socket behind a flap on the radiator grille, dead centre at the front, so length is measured from the nose and a Superb iV reversed onto a driveway needs a great deal more cable than the badge suggests.

The 2024 estate is a different purchase entirely. 25.7 kWh gross, 19.7 kWh usable, up to 84 miles of electric range, and a charger that will take 11 kW where three phases are available. A British house is supplied through one phase, which puts the real domestic figure at 7.4 kW and makes our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable the correct buy for a driveway: 3 hours from empty and roughly 32 miles back for each hour on charge. Skoda's headline of 2 hours 30 mins for 10 to 80% assumes the three-phase supply almost no British home has. The 32A three-phase cable earns its price at a workplace or commercial site that genuinely has three phases, and there it is worth owning, because few plug-in hybrids can use one at all.

On the 2024 car a 16A lead is a false economy. 3.7 kW takes the fill from 3 hours to 6, and cuts the hourly return from about 32 electric miles to about 16, so an evening window that used to cover a full commute now covers half of one. On the 2020 car the identical lead costs nothing at all. That contrast is the clearest reason these two must not be shopped for as a single product.

A Type 2 to 3-Pin cable gives 2.3 kW from a household socket. On the 2020 Superb iV that means 5 hours and about 8 electric miles an hour, close enough to the wallbox time that it works as a real overnight method rather than a last resort. On the 2024 estate the same lead needs 9 hours 45 mins and returns about 10 miles an hour. Skoda supplies a Mode 3 32A cable as standard on every iV model and sells the Mode 2 three-pin lead separately, so the household socket cable is usually the one an owner turns out to be short of. It is IP67 sealed and adjusts down to 6A for older wiring.

Skoda uses the iV badge on battery-electric cars as well as plug-in hybrids, so the name alone does not tell you what a car does. The Octavia iV is the other plug-in saloon and estate, while the Enyaq and Elroq are fully electric and charge to their own limits. The complete Skoda charging cable range sits in one place.

Every lead here is CE certified and built to IEC 62196-2. The Type 2 to Type 2 cables carry an IP55 seal and the Type 2 to 3-Pin an IP67 one, and both work between -30C and +50C, or +60C for the 3-pin. Warranty is two years, manufacturer's, and delivery in the UK is free on the next working day.

Which Skoda Superb actually plugs in?

Only the one badged iV. Skoda also sells a Superb 1.5 TSI e-TEC, a mild hybrid registered as a petrol hybrid that appears under hybrid filters on lease sites and has no socket at all, and every TSI and TDI Superb is likewise unplugged. Both cars can be a 1.5 TSI and both use the same trim names, so a Superb Estate 1.5 TSI e-TEC SE L and a Superb Estate 1.5 TSI iV SE L can sit side by side with one badge word between them. Read the badge, not the trim.

Which cable is right for a 2020 Skoda Superb iV?

A 16A Type 2 to Type 2 cable is all a 2020 Skoda Superb iV can use. The car's onboard charger is capped at 3.6 kW, a 16A lead already carries 3.7 kW, and Skoda's charge time of about 3 hours 30 mins is unchanged on a 3.7, 7.4, 11 or 22 kW supply. Spend the difference on length instead, because this generation charges through the front grille.

Which cable is right for the 2024 Skoda Superb iV estate?

The 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable is right for the 2024 Skoda Superb iV estate at home. Its charger is rated at 11 kW on three phases, which a single-phase British house turns into 7.4 kW, and 7.4 kW fills the 19.7 kWh usable pack in about 3 hours. This generation also carries a CCS socket for 50 kW DC charging, roughly 26 minutes from 10 to 80%, which needs no cable of your own. Skoda's European material quotes up to 40 kW for the same car, so treat 50 kW as the UK figure rather than a contradiction.

Will a 22kW cable speed up a Skoda Superb iV?

On a 2020 Skoda Superb iV, never: the car is fixed at 3.6 kW and a 22kW cable arrives at a charger that cannot use it. On the 2024 estate it genuinely can, but only at a site with a real three-phase supply, where the car takes 11 kW and finishes in about 2 hours instead of 3. Since British homes are fed by one phase, the 32A single-phase cable remains the right answer on a driveway for both generations.

Where is the charge socket on a Skoda Superb iV?

It depends which Superb iV you have, and the two are nowhere near each other. Skoda put the first-generation socket behind a flap on the radiator grille, in the middle of the nose. The second-generation estate moved it to the front left wing, on the nearside. Both are at the front of the car, which is the useful part: nose-in parking suits short leads on either generation and reversing in does not.

How long a lead does a Skoda Superb iV need?

Work it out from the front of the car in both cases. Park a Skoda Superb iV exactly as you leave it overnight, run a tape from the wallbox to the grille on a first-generation car or to the nearside front wing on the 2024 estate, and read the number. Nose-in parking with a wallbox near the garage door often lands inside 5m. Reversing in on a Superb, which is a long estate, puts the socket at the far end of the car and pushes most owners to 10m. Detached garages and communal bays are where 15m and 20m come in.

Which generation you own decides the answer. The first-generation Skoda Superb iV is held to 3.6 kW whatever it is plugged into, so a 16A Type 2 to Type 2 lead gives it everything and length matters far more than rating, because the socket sits in the front grille. The second-generation estate draws 7.4 kW from a single-phase British home and 11 kW only where three phases exist, which makes the 32A single-phase cable the home buy and the 32A three-phase one worth owning for a workplace. Note that only the iV badge plugs in: a Superb 1.5 TSI e-TEC is a mild hybrid with no socket, and every TSI and TDI Superb is unplugged.

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
