Product Description

The BYD Atto 2 is the easiest car in the BYD line-up to buy a cable for, and the reason is worth saying plainly: there is nothing to look up. Both batteries, the 51.1 kWh Boost and the 64.8 kWh Comfort, accept 11 kW on AC as standard, with no faster charging held back for a higher trim. The larger pack does not pull more power, it simply spends longer doing it.

Every BYD Atto 2 charges through a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. BYD fits the same Type 2 inlet across the board, so there is no Type 1 alternative to weigh up and no trim-specific exception hiding in the brochure.

One number does need explaining. The 11 kW rating assumes three phases of supply, and British houses are wired with one, so the most a home wallbox can deliver to an Atto 2 is 7.4 kW. That is precisely what our 1-Phase, 32A cable carries, which is why it suits nearly every Atto 2 on the road. The 3-Phase 32A cable is rated at 22 kW and does the car no harm, though the Atto 2 will only ever draw 11 kW from it, so it repays the money only where a real three-phase supply is already installed at home or at work.

The 16A cable is where the saving looks real and is not. It pins the Atto 2 to 3.7 kW, and on the 64.8 kWh Comfort that stretches a full charge to nineteen and three quarter hours rather than ten, which no overnight window will absorb. Per hour it returns 15 miles of range instead of 30. The electricity costs the same either way, so the slower cable buys you nothing except a car still charging at breakfast and a missed cheap-rate window.

Length is the decision that actually deserves thought. We build the Type 2 to Type 2 in 5m, 10m, 15m and 20m. What matters is not the gap between the wallbox and the parking space but the path the cable takes to get there, round the back of the car, along a wall, never diagonally across a drive people walk on. Reversing in one week and nosing in the next changes which end of the car faces the charger, and charge points away from home are rarely as conveniently placed. If your measurement sits near the edge of a size, order the next one up.

Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable comes in 5m and 10m and takes 2.3 kW from any household 13A socket, about nine miles of range an hour. What charging cable fits a BYD Atto 2?

A BYD Atto 2 takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and the 32A single-phase version is the one to order. It delivers 7.4 kW, the ceiling for any single-phase home supply, and it applies to both batteries. If there is no wallbox where you park, the Type 2 to 3-Pin cable lets you charge from an ordinary socket instead.

Does the BYD Atto 2 battery size change the cable I need?

No, the BYD Atto 2 battery size makes no difference to the cable. The 51.1 kWh Boost and the 64.8 kWh Comfort both accept 11 kW on AC, so both want the same 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2. All that changes is the clock, about 7 hours 45 minutes for the Boost on a 7.4 kW wallbox against 10 hours for the Comfort.

Would a three-phase cable charge a BYD Atto 2 any faster?

A three-phase cable only speeds up a BYD Atto 2 if the building it plugs into has a three-phase supply. The car's limit is 11 kW, so a 22kW cable cannot exceed that. With three phase available, the 64.8 kWh car fills in around 6 hours 45 minutes instead of 10 hours. Without it, the cable performs identically to the 32A single-phase one.

Is a 16A cable enough for a BYD Atto 2?

A 16A cable is not enough for a BYD Atto 2 if you want the car ready by morning. It restricts charging to 3.7 kW, so the 64.8 kWh Comfort needs 19 hours 45 mins from empty and the 51.1 kWh Boost 15 hours 30 mins. Neither fits an overnight charge, and the electricity costs exactly the same as it would through the faster cable.

Can a BYD Atto 2 be charged from a household socket?

Yes, a BYD Atto 2 can be charged from a standard 13A household socket using the Type 2 to 3-Pin cable, at 2.3 kW. That is roughly nine miles of range an hour, which makes it a genuine way to recover charge when you are staying somewhere without a charge point, but not a replacement for a wallbox as your main method.

Which cable length suits a BYD Atto 2?

Most BYD Atto 2 owners are well served by 5m or 10m, and we stock 15m and 20m for longer runs. Measure the real route from the charge point to the car's socket rather than the straight-line distance, allow for parking the other way round on days when that is easier, and choose the next size up if the figure is borderline. Excess cable stores in the carry bag; a cable that falls short is useless.

Both batteries accept the same 11 kW, so the cable choice is the same either way. On a UK single-phase home supply the car draws 7.4 kW, which our 32A single-phase cable delivers in full. The 32A three-phase cable is only worth buying if you have a genuine three-phase supply, and even then the car caps itself at 11 kW.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
