Product Description

Buying a used BYD Atto 3 and not certain whether you are looking at the original or the Atto 3 Evo? For cable purposes it makes no difference. The Atto 3 reached UK driveways in 2023 and the Evo took over in April 2026, and both generations accept 11 kW on AC through the same inlet. What grew was the battery, 60.5 kWh to 74.8 kWh, and that changes how long a full charge takes rather than how quickly the car will take it.

Whichever one is sitting outside, it wants a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Neither generation was sold with a Type 1 inlet, so that part of the decision is already made for you.

The 11 kW headline is a three-phase number. British domestic supplies are single phase, which puts the real ceiling at 7.4 kW on a home wallbox, and our 1-Phase, 32A cable hands the Atto 3 every watt of it. The 3-Phase 32A cable carries a 22 kW rating and is a perfectly good cable, but the car still stops at 11 kW, so it repays the extra only where a genuine three-phase supply exists, usually at work rather than at home.

There is one loose end worth tying off. A few UK review sites still list the original car as 7.4 kW with 11 kW as an option, while BYD's own UK specification puts 11 kW three-phase on as standard, and 11 kW is the figure behind the tables below. It is a disagreement with no practical consequence: on a single-phase home supply the car draws 7.4 kW either way, and the 32A single-phase cable is the correct buy either way.

Skip the 16A cable on both generations. It holds the car at 3.7 kW, which works out at twenty three hours from empty on an Atto 3 Evo and eighteen and a half on the original, where a 32A cable does the same job in eleven and a half hours and nine and a quarter. What cable does a BYD Atto 3 take?

A BYD Atto 3 takes a Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable, and the 32A single-phase version is the one to buy. It gives the car 7.4 kW, which is as much as a single-phase British home can supply. The same cable suits the Atto 3 Evo, so a used buyer does not need to know which generation is on the forecourt before ordering.

Does the BYD Atto 3 Evo charge differently from the original Atto 3?

No. The BYD Atto 3 Evo and the original Atto 3 both take 11 kW on AC through a Type 2 inlet, so one cable covers both and behaves identically in each. The Evo carries the larger 74.8 kWh battery, so a full charge takes about two hours longer on the same cable.

Is the 22kW cable worth paying for on a BYD Atto 3?

For most BYD Atto 3 owners, no. The car accepts 11 kW at most, so a 22kW cable has nowhere to put the rest. Where three phase is actually installed, the 60.5 kWh Atto 3 fills from empty in about 6 hours 15 minutes instead of 9 hours 15. Plugged into the single-phase supply almost every British house has, that cable performs identically to the 32A single-phase one.

How long does a BYD Atto 3 take on a home wallbox?

A BYD Atto 3 on a 7 kW home wallbox with a 32A single-phase cable takes 9 hours 15 minutes from empty on the 60.5 kWh battery, and 11 hours 30 minutes on the 74.8 kWh Evo. A larger wallbox will not shorten that. A 22 kW unit on a single-phase house still supplies 7.4 kW, and even on three phase the Atto 3 stops at 11 kW.

Is a three-pin cable useful for a BYD Atto 3?

Yes, as a spare rather than a routine. A BYD Atto 3 on a 2.3 kW domestic socket gains about ten miles of range an hour, which is fine for an overnight top up at a relative's house but slow going against a 60.5 kWh or 74.8 kWh battery. Keep the 3-pin cable in the boot and do your everyday charging on the wallbox.

What cable length should a BYD Atto 3 owner order?

10m is where most BYD Atto 3 owners land. The car is 4.46m long and the Evo is much the same, so parking nose in leaves the socket a fair distance from a wall-mounted box. Walk the route the cable will actually take with the car where you normally leave it, allow enough spare that nothing sits under tension, and step up to 15m or 20m for a detached garage or shared parking.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
