Type 2 to Type 2, 32A single phase (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m)

The Peugeot e-208 accepts up to 7.4 kW on AC. A 32A single-phase lead delivers that figure in full, which is why it is the one we recommend. The three-phase cable would be money spent on capacity the car cannot take.

Peugeot did something quietly clever with the e-208. The battery grew by barely one kilowatt hour, from 50 kWh to 51 kWh, and the official range grew by forty two miles. The onboard charger stayed at 7.4 kW single phase as standard throughout, which means the same Peugeot e-208 charging cable now returns considerably more miles for every hour it is plugged in. On the newer car a 32A lead puts back about 41 miles an hour against 36 on the original, from an almost identical amount of electricity.

All of them use a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. The flap sits on the nearside rear quarter, where a fuel filler would be on the petrol 208, so the lead comes in at the back of the car on the passenger side.

Buy the 32A single phase cable. Even on a car fitted with Peugeot's optional 11 kW charger, a domestic supply gives one phase and 7.4 kW, so that is what the car receives at home either way. The 22 kW three phase lead is only worth owning if you have an 11 kW e-208 and regular access to a genuine three phase supply, where the 51 kWh battery comes down to about 5 hours.

The 16A cable is a poor trade on this car. It takes the 51 kWh e-208 from 7 hours 15 minutes to 14 hours 45 minutes and drops recovery from 41 miles an hour to 21. Half a charge a night is what the cheaper lead actually costs you.

Worth adding to the order: the 3-pin lead for the nights you are not at home. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable pulls 2.3 kW from a household 13 amp socket, about 13 miles an hour in the efficient 51 kWh car, which is over 100 miles across a long night. Which charging cable does a Peugeot e-208 need?

Pick the 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 lead for a Peugeot e-208. It matches the 7.4 kW the car pulls from a domestic wallbox whether you have the 50 kWh or the 51 kWh battery, and whether or not the optional faster charger was fitted.

Is the 11kW option worth a three phase cable on a Peugeot e-208?

Only if you can plug into a real three phase supply. A Peugeot e-208 with the optional 11 kW charger fills its 51 kWh battery in about 5 hours at such a site, against 7 hours 15 minutes at home. On a house the 11 kW car and the 7.4 kW car charge at identical speeds, so the three phase cable adds nothing there.

Do the 50kWh and 51kWh Peugeot e-208 charge at different speeds?

They charge at the same rate but the newer one goes further on it. Both take 7.4 kW at home, and because the 51 kWh Peugeot e-208 is significantly more efficient, an hour on the cable is worth about 41 miles rather than 36. Full charge times are close, at 7 hours 15 minutes and 7 hours.

How long does a Peugeot e-208 take to charge at home?

About 7 hours 15 minutes from empty for the 51 kWh Peugeot e-208 on a 32A cable, and around 7 hours for the 50 kWh version. On a 16A lead both stretch past 14 hours, which pushes the charge well outside any overnight cheap rate window.

How long should a Peugeot e-208 charging cable be?

The charging flap is on the nearside rear quarter of a car that is just over four metres long, so 5m suits a driveway where you park nose in with the wallbox on the passenger side. If the unit sits on the opposite wall, or the e-208 is reversed in, the 10m saves the cable being pulled taut across the boot.

Can I take my own cable to a public charger?

Yes, and on most UK AC posts you must. Untethered sockets are the norm, so drivers supply their own Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Peugeot e-208 also takes CCS rapid charging, where the charger provides its own cable and yours stays in the boot.

Compatibility

Every e-208 uses a Type 2 socket, so trim level makes no difference to which cable fits. The battery grew twice over the car's life and the badge did not always change with it, so check the year rather than the name. One thing worth knowing before you spend: Peugeot sold a 7.4 kW onboard charger as standard on every e-208 and offered an 11 kW three-phase charger as a paid option. That option only does anything on a three-phase supply, which virtually no UK home has, and on single phase an 11 kW car actually charges slightly slower than a 7.4 kW one. Either way, a 32A Type 2 cable is the right buy.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
