Product Description

The Jaecoo E5 was the third best-selling electric car in Britain in July 2026, and for a brand that only arrived here in 2025 that means a great many owners are buying their first EV charging cable. If that is you, this page assumes nobody explained any of it at handover.

The E5 has a Type 2 socket, the European standard, which is what almost every UK public charger and home wallbox uses. The cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. There is nothing unusual about the car in this respect.

The specification says the E5 charges at 11 kW on AC. That figure assumes a three-phase electricity supply, which some workplaces and industrial units have and essentially no British house does. On a normal home wallbox your E5 draws 7.4 kW, and our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable carries exactly that. Nine hours from empty to full, roughly 31 miles of range added per hour.

The 16A cable is the one to avoid. It restricts the car to 3.7 kW, turning that nine hour charge into eighteen and halving your miles per hour to sixteen. On a 60.9 kWh battery that is the difference between charging overnight and not.

The E5 is the only Jaecoo where the 3-Phase 32A cable does anything at all, because it is the only Jaecoo rated above 6.6 kW. Where it earns its money is a 22 kW three-phase post, the kind fitted at workplaces and in car parks. Those posts are untethered, so you bring your own cable, and only the three-phase version lets the E5 draw its full 11 kW there, six hours from empty instead of nine. On a single-phase house it behaves identically to the cheaper 32A cable, so buy it for charging away from home rather than for the driveway.

The E5 also does 80 kW DC rapid charging, which needs no cable from you because rapid units have their own attached. What you are buying here is for home, work and the untethered Type 2 posts that make up most on-street and car park charging.

Lengths 5m to 20m, 10m being the usual choice for a driveway. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable adds about ten miles an hour from a household socket, which is worth having in the boot for visits but is not a substitute for a wallbox on a battery this size.

Does the Jaecoo E5 come with a charging cable?

Jaecoo's UK equipment lists have changed since launch and vary between Pure and Luxury, so check your own order paperwork rather than assuming. Where a cable is included it is typically a shorter 5m Type 2, which is why a 10m second cable is the most common purchase we see from new E5 owners.

Is the E5 an 11 kW car or a 7.4 kW car?

Both, depending on where you plug it in. The onboard charger is rated at 11 kW, and it will use all of that on a three-phase supply. On a single-phase UK home supply the maximum available is 7.4 kW, so that is what you will see on your own wallbox. Neither figure is wrong, they describe different situations.

How long does a Jaecoo E5 take to charge at home?

About nine hours from empty on a 32A cable and a 7.4 kW wallbox. In practice you rarely start from zero: a top-up from 20 to 80 percent takes around five and a half hours, which sits comfortably inside an overnight or off-peak window.

Do I need a different cable for public charge points?

No. The same Type 2 to Type 2 cable works at any untethered public post, which is most on-street and car park charging in the UK. Rapid DC chargers have their own cable permanently attached, so you simply leave yours in the boot.

Does the E5's vehicle-to-load function need a special cable?

It uses a V2L adapter, a separate accessory that turns the car's socket into a mains outlet. A charging cable will not give you V2L and V2L does not change which charging cable you need.

Can I use one cable across an E5 and a Jaecoo 7?

Yes. Both have Type 2 inlets, so a 32A cable serves either. The 7 SHS-P caps at 6.6 kW so it will charge a little slower than the E5 on the same cable, but nothing is compromised by sharing.

On a UK single-phase home supply the E5 draws 7.4 kW, which the 32A single-phase cable delivers in full. The three-phase cable is worth considering only if you genuinely have three phases, in which case the car will use 11 kW of it.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

    A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

    This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
