Product Description

EV Cable Shop recommendation

Type 2 to Type 2, 32A three phase, 22 kW (5m)

The Cupra Tavascan accepts up to 11 kW on AC. Nothing in the range can outrun a 22 kW lead, and a three-phase charge point is where the extra capacity turns into hours saved.

Home charging only? One phase is all a British house has, which means 7.4 kW on a wallbox. The 32A single-phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) covers that and saves you the difference.

The Tavascan is one of the easier cars to buy a cable for. There is a single battery, a single charger rating and no options to check. Every UK car, whether V1, V2, VZ1 or VZ2, has 77 kWh of usable capacity and an 11 kW onboard charger as standard.

Order the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A UK home sits on a single phase supply, so 7.4 kW is the most any domestic charge point can deliver, and the 32A cable carries all of it. From empty that works out at about 11 hours 45 minutes, which is a long night but a realistic weekly cycle given how rarely a 77 kWh car runs down to zero.

The 11 kW headline is a three phase figure. It needs a three phase supply and the 32A three phase cable, and it returns roughly 8 hours for a full charge. Very few UK homes have three phase power, so treat that cable as a workplace or destination accessory rather than the default choice. On a single phase home charger it delivers the same 7.4 kW as the cheaper 32A version.

The Tavascan also has a CCS socket and accepts DC at up to 135 kW. That is separate from anything sold here, since rapid units come with their own cable attached.

A 16A cable is a poor match for a battery this size at about 23 hours 30 minutes from empty, and the Type 2 to 3 Pin cable is strictly a backup at around 37 hours 45 minutes. Keep the 3 pin lead in the boot for a night away where there is nothing but a household socket, and use the 32A cable for everything else.

On length, 5m works where the charge point is next to the car and 10m covers awkward parking. Type 2 to Type 2 cables are IP55 rated, Type 2 to 3 Pin cables are IP67, and every order includes free next working day UK delivery and a 2 year manufacturer's warranty.

FAQs

Cupra Tavascan Charging Cable FAQs

Which cable suits the Cupra Tavascan?

The 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Every Tavascan has an 11 kW onboard charger and 77 kWh usable, and a single phase UK home supply caps delivery at 7.4 kW, which the 32A cable carries in full. From empty that comes to roughly 11 hours 45 minutes.

Do the VZ models charge differently from the V1 and V2?

No. The rear wheel drive V1 and V2 at 286PS and the all wheel drive VZ1 and VZ2 at 340PS share the same 77 kWh usable pack and the same 11 kW charger. Drive layout and power output change the performance, not the charging, so all four take the identical cable.

Is the three phase cable worth buying?

Only if you have access to three phase power. It reaches the car's full 11 kW and cuts a charge from empty to about 8 hours instead of 11 hours 45 minutes. UK homes are single phase, so on a domestic wallbox it performs exactly like the standard 32A cable.

Can I get away with a 16A cable?

You can plug one in, but 3.7 kW against 77 kWh means about 23 hours 30 minutes from empty. That only suits low daily mileage and a car parked for long stretches. For most owners the step up to 32A is worth the difference in price.

What about rapid charging?

The Tavascan accepts DC at up to 135 kW through its CCS socket. Rapid units come with their own fixed cable, so nothing on this page is used for that. The cables here are for the Type 2 AC socket at home, at work and at public AC posts.

Should I buy 5m or 10m?

5m is fine when the charge point is mounted alongside the parking space and you always park nose in. Choose 10m if the post sits at the far end of a drive, you park on the street, or you use shared bays where the position of the socket varies.

Compatibility

The Tavascan is simple to buy for: one battery, one charger rating, four trims, no options to worry about. Every UK car has a 77 kWh usable pack, a Type 2 socket, CCS rapid charging at 135 kW and an 11 kW onboard charger as standard, whether you have the rear-drive V1 and V2 or the all-wheel-drive VZ1 and VZ2. As with the rest of the CUPRA range, 11 kW is a three-phase figure. On a UK home supply you will see about 7.4 kW, so a 32A Type 2 cable is the correct buy and a three-phase cable adds nothing unless you use three-phase public posts.

Sizing guide
  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
