The CUPRA Born accepts up to 11 kW on AC. Nothing in the range can outrun a 22 kW lead, and a three-phase charge point is where the extra capacity turns into hours saved. The three-phase cable comes in 5m only on this page.

Home charging only? One phase is all a British house has, which means 7.4 kW on a wallbox. The 32A single-phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) covers that and saves you the difference.

Every CUPRA Born sold in the UK, from the 2022 launch cars to the current V1, V2 and VZ, charges through a Type 2 inlet at up to 11 kW AC, so one Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable fits the lot. On a British home wallbox that 11 kW arrives as 7.4 kW, and 7.4 kW is the number a driveway actually turns on. Cupra's own UK price list gives 11 kW for the 59 kWh and 79 kWh cars alike, and the 58 kWh and 77 kWh models before them used the same three phase onboard charger, so the badge on the boot lid changes how long a charge lasts and never how fast it runs. That settles the specification argument in one paragraph, which leaves the two mistakes a Born owner can still make when ordering: paying for current the car will not draw, and buying a lead that does not reach.

CUPRA Born charging cable: which one to order

Full speed on a driveway: the 32A single phase lead. It appears in the menu above as 32amp (7.2kW) and carries 7.4 kW, the ceiling of a single phase British supply and the most a Born will accept on a drive. That fills the 59 kWh car in 9 hours and a 79 kWh VZ in 12 hours, and the same lead throttles back happily on a lower rated home charger, which makes it the future proof buy if the wallbox or the car ever changes. No quicker at a house: the 32A three phase lead. Its extra conductors need three live phases at the socket before they do anything, and a house is fed by one, so on a driveway this lead and the cheaper one return identical figures. It is backward compatible with lower powered chargers, merely unnecessary at home. Where three phases actually arrive, usually a workplace bay or a 22 kW destination post, the Born takes its full 11 kW and the 79 kWh car falls from 12 hours to 8. Too slow for a pack this size: the 16A lead. Sold under the label 16amp (3.6kW), it pins any Born to 3.7 kW, stretching that 9 hours to 18 hours and shrinking a seven hour off peak window from roughly 231 miles to roughly 119. A hot hatch driven the way this one invites will empty a pack over a weekend, and the cheaper lead decides whether it fills again by Monday.

Amperage takes one line on this car, which makes cable length the only real judgement left. Cupra puts the Born's charge flap on the rear right wing, the driver's side in the UK, on a body 4.32 metres long. Back onto a drive with the wallbox on that side and the inlet stops within arm's reach of it, so a 5 metre lead is ample and coils away in the boot. Nose in instead, or leave the wallbox on the far side of the garage door, and the cable has to run the whole length of the car and round a bumper, which is the situation the 10 metre version exists for. Our 15 metre and 20 metre leads suit a detached garage, a residents' car park or a charger fitted at the head of a long drive, and on this product both come in 32A single phase alone, which is the rating a Born wants regardless.

Cupra is unusually clear about what travels with the car. The UK price list makes a Mode 3 32A charging cable standard equipment on every Born, which is the lead for a wallbox or an untethered public post, while the 2.3 kW Mode 2 lead that plugs into a household socket appears only inside an optional Cargo pack. Plenty of cars therefore leave the showroom without one. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable, the portable charger most owners call a granny charger, covers that gap and is shown in the menu as 6amp - 12amp Adjustable (2.3kW). Plugged into an ordinary 13 amp socket it delivers 2.3 kW, worth about 10 miles of range an hour, so an overnight stop at a relative's house returns roughly 80 miles by breakfast. Built to IEC 62752 with a Type B RCD in the control box and adjustable current, it can be wound down on tired household wiring rather than trusted blindly. Nobody should plan a full charge on it, since a 79 kWh Born would sit there 38 hours 45 minutes, but every Born owner is better off with one in the boot.

Sealing matters most on a lead that lives outdoors, so the Type 2 to Type 2 is rated IP55 and the Type 2 to 3-Pin IP67, with working ranges of -30C to +50C and -30C to +60C respectively. Construction follows IEC 62196-2 on the Type 2 to Type 2, which also carries CE marking, while the 3-Pin lead is CE marked and made to IEC 62752. A 2 year manufacturer's warranty applies to each, UK delivery costs nothing and arrives the next working day, and a wrong length can be sent back free of charge inside 30 days.

The 2022 to 2024 Born 58 kWh, rated at 265 miles, lands within 15 minutes of the first table on every cable. Cupra quotes the 79 kWh V1 and V2 at up to 346 miles against the VZ's 366, so those cars recover about 32 miles an hour on the 32A cable rather than 34. Cars ordered from May 2026 carry revised figures, up to 388 miles on the 79 kWh pack and around 300 miles on a new 58 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which lifts the miles per hour without touching the charge times, because the onboard charger is still 11 kW. Winter temperatures and a hard motorway run will each pull the miles per hour figure down.

What is the best charging cable for a CUPRA Born?

The 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A CUPRA Born accepts 11 kW on AC, a British home supply tops out at 7.4 kW, and this is the cable that hands over all 7.4 kW of it. Type 2 is the standard AC connector on electric vehicles in the UK, and every Born built since 2022 shares that same onboard charger, so the cable to buy does not change with the battery, the trim or the model year. Charging speeds are set by the car and the supply, not the brand of wallbox, so the same lead works on an Ohme, a Zappi, a Pod Point or any other untethered home charger.

Does a new CUPRA Born come with a charging cable in the boot?

One of the two, according to Cupra's UK price list. A Mode 3 32A cable is standard equipment on every Born, which is the Type 2 to Type 2 lead used at a wallbox or a public AC post, while the 2.3 kW Mode 2 lead for a household socket is bundled into an optional pack rather than fitted as standard. A used CUPRA Born is a different matter, since the Mode 3 cable is exactly the item a previous owner keeps for their next car, so look in the boot floor before the wallbox is commissioned.

Is a three phase cable a waste of money on a CUPRA Born?

On a driveway, yes. A CUPRA Born plugged into a domestic wallbox charges at 7.4 kW whichever of the two 32A cables is attached, because the house has only one phase for the cable to use. The three phase lead earns its price only where three phases reach the socket, at a workplace charger or a 22 kW public AC post, and there it lets a 79 kWh Born pull its full 11 kW and finish in 8 hours instead of 12.

Does a CUPRA Born VZ charge faster than a V1 or V2?

No, and that is the useful part. The 326 PS CUPRA Born VZ carries the same 11 kW onboard charger as a V1 or a V2, so all three draw at the same rate and only the size of the pack moves the clock: about 9 hours for a 59 kWh car against 12 hours for a 79 kWh VZ on a 7.4 kW wallbox. Power output and trim level change the driving, not the charging, and every one of them takes the same cable.

How much cable does a CUPRA Born need on a driveway?

Five metres is enough for a CUPRA Born reversed onto a drive with the wallbox on the driver's side, because the charge flap sits on the rear right wing and finishes close to the wall. Ten metres is the sensible order if the car goes in nose first, since the lead then has to reach past 4.32 metres of bodywork, or if the wallbox is mounted on the opposite side of the parking space. Order fifteen or twenty metres only where the garage sits well back from the wall the charger is on, or where the car shares a car park with a post that never moves.

What can a CUPRA Born recover in a seven hour off peak window?

Roughly 231 miles into a 59 kWh CUPRA Born and about 238 miles into a 79 kWh car, using the 32A single phase cable at 7.4 kW. That is close to a full battery on the smaller car and about two thirds of one on the larger, so a Born charged on a night tariff rarely starts a day short. The 16A cable returns about 119 miles over the same seven hours, which suits a short commute and nothing more ambitious.

Compatibility

The Born is straightforward: every UK version, every trim, every model year has an 11 kW onboard charger as standard, from the launch V1 through to the current VZ. There is no cheaper 7.2 kW version, because the entry-level 45 kWh Born that would have had one was cancelled before it reached production. The practical point is what 11 kW means at home. It is a three-phase figure, and a UK house has a single-phase supply, so your Born will charge at about 7.4 kW on your wallbox no matter which trim you bought. A 32A Type 2 cable is the right product, and a three-phase cable only helps at a three-phase public post.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

    A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
