Product Description

A seven seat car rarely charges once and then stands still. The Chery Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid does the school run, the commute, the club drop-off and the late collection, and a day shaped like that empties its 56 mile electric range well before bedtime. The real question is not whether it charges overnight, but how fast it is ready to go out again after tea. That is a question about the cable.

The Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid accepts a maximum of 6.6 kW on AC. Both UK trims, Aspire and Summit, carry the same 18.4 kWh battery and the same onboard charger, so there is no faster or slower version to choose between.

Charging happens through a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Type 2 is the UK and European standard for AC charging, fitted to every home wallbox and every untethered public post, so the connector is never the variable. Check the badge before ordering, though: a petrol Chery Tiggo 8 has no charge flap and nothing behind it to plug into. The Super Hybrid is the version that takes a cable.

The 6.6 kW ceiling is a single-phase figure, and single phase is what arrives at a British house. Our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable carries 7.4 kW, more than the car will ever call for, so the Tiggo 8 pulls its full 6.6 kW and goes from empty to full in about three hours. A 32A three-phase cable is rated at 22 kW, but extra phases give a single-phase charger nothing to work with. The car still takes 6.6 kW, the turnaround is still three hours, and the only thing that changed is the price.

A 16A cable is the one that hurts a family timetable. It caps the car at 3.7 kW and turns that three hour refill into five hours fifteen minutes. Plug in at six and a 32A cable has you full by nine, ready for whatever the evening throws up, then topping up again on the cheap overnight rate. On 16A the same plug-in is not finished until gone eleven, and the second charge of the day stops being possible.

Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable works from any 13A household socket at 2.3 kW, filling the Tiggo 8 in around eight and a half hours and adding about seven miles of electric range an hour. Slow next to a wallbox, but usable across a night on a battery this size, which is why it earns its place in the boot for holiday cottages, a relative's garage and any stop with a socket but no charge point. It is IP67 sealed for outdoor use.

Length matters more here than on a smaller car. The charge flap is on the rear offside, with close to five metres of Tiggo 8 for the lead to travel along before it reaches that corner. Measure with the car parked as the family actually leaves it, boot end wherever it ends up. 5m rarely stretches unless the wallbox is at the back of the space, 10m is the safe default, and 15m or 20m covers detached garages and awkward driveways.

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M should be sufficient to reach the vast majority of locations where you would like to charge your car. If this isn't enough you can always add an extension cable.

How to chose your charge speed?
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    If you are looking to charge your car using a 3-pin socket this is a great choice for you. The maximum charge speed for a 3 pin socket is 12 amps,  so this cable will be capable of charging at the maximum charge speed but it also gives you the option if you want to charge at a slower speed (Reducing risk and costs).

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.6kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.6kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.2kW. This is the maximum output from a domestic house. A 32amp charge speed will also be able to charge at all lower charge speeds (i.e 16amp - 3.6kW). This is a great choice if you are limited to 7.2kW or you only charge your car at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW. This cable will ensure that your ev charging cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. This cable is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
