Product Description

Chery sells the Tiggo 9 as a Super Hybrid, but the pack under its floor holds 34.46 kWh, which is more energy than several small electric cars carry. Treated like an ordinary plug-in hybrid it will never repay what you spent. Charged like an EV it covers 91 miles WLTP before the petrol engine has any work to do.

The car accepts 6.6 kW on AC and takes a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Only one version reaches UK buyers, the Summit at £43,105, so there is no trim table to study. Every Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid on a British driveway wants the same lead.

That 6.6 kW ceiling sits on one phase. Our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable is rated at 7.4 kW, comfortably clear of the ceiling, so nothing is held back and the battery goes from empty to full in about five hours forty five minutes. A 22 kW three-phase lead looks like the better product on the shelf and is not: it carries two extra live conductors that the Tiggo 9 onboard charger has no way of using, and the supply feeding a British house has only one phase to offer them regardless. You pay more and the clock still reads five hours forty five minutes.

The 16A cable is where money genuinely gets wasted on this car. Held to 3.7 kW, the Tiggo 9 needs ten hours fifteen minutes to fill that battery. No cheap-rate tariff window in the country runs that long, so either the tail of every charge lands on full-price electricity or you set off in the morning with the pack part full and start burning fuel you had no reason to burn. On a smaller plug-in hybrid a 16A lead is a mild compromise. Here it undermines the entire case for owning the car.

Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable takes 2.3 kW from an ordinary household socket and returns roughly six miles of electric range for each hour it runs. Against 34.46 kWh a complete fill takes somewhere near sixteen and a half hours, longer than any night, so treat it as a way of gaining miles during a long stay away from a charge point, not as your everyday method. It is IP67 sealed and coils away in the boot.

The smaller Chery plug-ins behave differently because their packs are half the size. The Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid and the Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid both hold 18.4 kWh and take the same 6.6 kW, which fills them in roughly three hours. Everything we stock sits in the Chery charging cable range.

Length is the last decision, and Chery does not publish where the charge flap sits on the Tiggo 9. Rather than guess, park where you normally stand the car and run a tape from the wallbox to the nearside rear corner, then to the offside rear corner, and order for whichever is longer. 10m handles most driveways. 15m and 20m are there for detached garages, communal bays and wallboxes on the opposite side of the house.

Charge times assume 33.46 kWh usable from the 34.46 kWh pack, and the hourly mileage comes from the 91 mile WLTP electric range. In cold conditions and at higher speeds the real figure drops.

The Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid is sold in the UK in Summit trim only, with one battery and one onboard charger, so there is nothing to check before ordering. The 34.46 kWh battery is roughly double that of the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8, which is why a 16A cable is not adequate here. The 32A single-phase cable delivers the car's full 6.6 kW and a three-phase cable cannot exceed it.

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M should be sufficient to reach the vast majority of locations where you would like to charge your car. If this isn't enough you can always add an extension cable.

How to chose your charge speed?
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    If you are looking to charge your car using a 3-pin socket this is a great choice for you. The maximum charge speed for a 3 pin socket is 12 amps,  so this cable will be capable of charging at the maximum charge speed but it also gives you the option if you want to charge at a slower speed (Reducing risk and costs).

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.6kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.6kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.2kW. This is the maximum output from a domestic house. A 32amp charge speed will also be able to charge at all lower charge speeds (i.e 16amp - 3.6kW). This is a great choice if you are limited to 7.2kW or you only charge your car at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW. This cable will ensure that your ev charging cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. This cable is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
