Product Description

At £29,995 the Chery Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid is the cheapest way into Chery's plug-in range, and the running costs that justify it only arrive if the battery is full when you set off. Charged, the first 56 miles cost pennies on an overnight tariff. Flat, the petrol engine generates that electricity for you at petrol prices. The cable is the small purchase that decides which of those two cars you own.

Every Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid accepts up to 6.6 kW on AC, on every trim Chery sells in the UK. There is one battery in the range, the 18.4 kWh pack, so no version charges faster or slower than another.

The car takes a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, the connector fitted to UK home wallboxes and to untethered public posts, so the plug end is never the question. One thing to rule out first: shared badge or not, the petrol Chery Tiggo 7 is a different car with no charging socket anywhere on it. Only the Super Hybrid plugs in.

That 6.6 kW arrives down one phase, which is all a British domestic supply offers in the first place. Our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable is rated at 7.4 kW, a margin over anything the Tiggo 7 asks for, so the car draws its full 6.6 kW and refills from empty in about three hours. The 32A three-phase cable is rated at 22 kW and costs more, but on this car the second and third phases sit idle. The charger still takes 6.6 kW, the charge still takes three hours, and you are out of pocket for nothing.

A 16A cable is where the economics slip. It holds the car to 3.7 kW and stretches that charge to five hours fifteen minutes. Cheap-rate windows are the financial case for a plug-in hybrid, and a 32A cable finishes inside one with hours in hand. A 16A cable uses nearly all of it, so any evening you get home late you are paying day rate or setting off tomorrow on petrol.

Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable draws 2.3 kW from an ordinary 13A household socket, filling the Tiggo 7 from empty in about eight and a half hours and adding roughly seven miles of electric range an hour. On a battery this size that is a genuine overnight charge, which turns a socket at work, at a second home or at family you visit often into miles you never bought at a pump. It is IP67 sealed, so it can live in the boot and be used outdoors.

The Tiggo 7 charge flap sits on the rear offside, behind the rear wheel, so the run to cover is wallbox to driver's side back corner, with the car standing where you habitually leave it. Nose on to a driveway with the wallbox near the house and that route is longer than it looks. Lengths run from 5m to 20m and 10m is the most popular choice.

Times are based on the 17.5 kWh usable capacity of the 18.4 kWh pack, and range added per hour comes from the 56 mile WLTP electric range. Cold weather and motorway speeds will both reduce the miles per hour figure.

Measure from the wallbox to the rear offside in the position you actually park, leaving enough spare that the lead never hangs tight. 5m only works where the wallbox is beside that corner, and 15m or 20m covers a detached garage, a shared bay or a charge point on the far side of the house.

Can I use my own cable at a public charge point?

Yes. An untethered public post has a Type 2 socket and no lead attached, so your own Type 2 to Type 2 cable connects post to car. A Chery Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid still tops out at 6.6 kW there, whatever the post is rated at.

The Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid is sold in the UK with one battery and one onboard charger, in Aspire and Summit trim, so there is nothing to check before ordering. The petrol Chery Tiggo 7 is a separate model with no charging socket and needs no cable. The 6.6 kW ceiling is set by the car, and the 32A single-phase cable delivers all of it. A three-phase cable cannot raise it.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
