The Porsche Cayenne accepts up to 11 kW on AC. This cable carries the fastest version of the car at full speed and works on any three-phase charge point you meet.

Only charging at home? A British house is single phase, so the car draws 7.4 kW whatever cable is plugged into it. The 32A single-phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) gives you all of that for less money.

One Porsche Cayenne charging cable covers every version that plugs in, from the 2018 Cayenne E-Hybrid to the 2026 Cayenne Electric: all of them carry a Type 2 inlet and take a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Both cars Porsche sells today, the E-Hybrid with its 25.9 kWh battery and the fully electric Cayenne with 108 kWh, carry an 11 kW onboard charger, and on a UK home charger both draw 7.4 kW. It was not always so: on the 2018 to 2023 E-Hybrid a 3.6 kW charger was standard and 7.2 kW a paid option, so two cars of the same year can want different cables. The 2024 facelift made 11 kW standard on E-Hybrid, S E-Hybrid and Turbo E-Hybrid, and the Cayenne Electric has 11 kW with 22 kW optional. No other badge spans a 3.6 kW plug-in, an 11 kW plug-in and a 108 kWh electric car, and the upshot: on any Cayenne built since 2024 the 32A cable is the minimum, and the 3-pin lead, which once filled an early E-Hybrid overnight, no longer covers either current car in a night.

Which Porsche Cayenne charging cable to buy

Full speed at home on every Cayenne since 2024: the 32A single phase cable. Listed as 32amp (7.2kW), it carries 7.4 kW, which is what an 11 kW car draws from a single phase supply. It fills the 25.9 kWh E-Hybrid in 4 hours and the 108 kWh Cayenne Electric in 16 hours 30 minutes, and suits a 2018 to 2023 car with the optional 7.2 kW charger. Works, but no faster at home: the 32A three phase cable. Our menu calls it 32amp - 3 Phase (22kW), and on a domestic wallbox it hands over the identical 7.4 kW because there is only one live phase for it to use. Two Cayennes give it a job: a Cayenne Electric ordered with the 22 kW charger takes 108 kWh from empty in 5 hours 30 minutes at a 22 kW public charging point, and any 11 kW Cayenne at a three phase workplace charger finishes in 11 hours (Electric) or 2 hours 45 minutes (E-Hybrid). The 16A cable, listed as 16amp (3.6kW), splits by year. On a 2018 to 2023 E-Hybrid with the standard 3.6 kW charger it is full speed, and the dearer cables work but charge no faster, so the cheapest lead is the correct one. On every other Cayenne it costs time: 8 hours instead of 4 on the 25.9 kWh hybrid, and 33 hours on the electric car, where a seven hour off-peak window returns about 98 miles against 189 with the 32A.

Cable length depends on which Cayenne you own, because the socket moves. The E-Hybrid has one charging flap in the rear left wing, above the wheel, on a car 4.93 metres long, so a wallbox on the driver's side with the car reversed in is a 5 metre job, while a passenger side wallbox or a nose-in space sends the lead behind the car and 10 metres is the safe order. The Cayenne Electric has an AC socket in both rear wings on a 4.99 metre body, so either side of the space works and 5 metres covers a garage or a drive with the charger near the back of the car. Porsche supplies a 6 metre cable with the Cayenne Electric, so our 10, 15 and 20 metre leads are for kerbside charging, a charger at the front of a long drive, or a detached garage the factory lead will not reach.

What is in the boot depends on the age of the car. Porsche UK lists a Mode 3 charging cable and the Porsche Mobile Charger with a domestic socket supply cable as standard on the current E-Hybrid, and a 6 metre AC cable on the Cayenne Electric. Used 2018 to 2023 E-Hybrids often arrive with only the Mobile Charger, or nothing. The Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable we sell under the label 6amp - 12amp Adjustable (2.3kW) is the granny cable most owners mean, and stands in for that domestic lead: 2.3 kW from any 13 amp socket, with a Type B RCD built into the plug and a current setting you can turn down for older house wiring. On a 14.1 kWh 2018 to 2020 E-Hybrid it fills the battery in 7 hours, which is a night. On the 25.9 kWh car it needs 12 hours 45 minutes, and on the Cayenne Electric 53 hours, so for both current cars it is the cable for a weekend at a house with no charger, adding about 5 miles an hour to the hybrid and 8 to the electric car.

The 2018 to 2020 E-Hybrid and Turbo S E-Hybrid carry 14.1 kWh with the same 3.6 kW or 7.2 kW chargers: 4 hours 30 minutes at 3.6 kW, 2 hours 15 minutes at 7.2 kW, 7 hours on the 3-pin. The Turbo E-Hybrid from 2024 is rated at up to 48 miles electric, so its range per hour runs about a tenth under the 25.9 kWh table. Note that Porsche publishes only gross capacity for its plug-in batteries, so the E-Hybrid times above are worked from 25.9, 17.9 and 14.1 kWh and will come in a little shorter in practice. A cold morning or a fast dual carriageway run takes a bite out of the miles per hour on every row.

What type of charger does the Porsche Cayenne Electric use, and is it the same cable as the E-Hybrid?

Type 2, on both. The Porsche Cayenne Electric and every Cayenne E-Hybrid use a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable is compatible with both, and the 32A single phase version gives each of them the full 7.4 kW that home EV chargers can supply. The difference is time: the 25.9 kWh hybrid is full in 4 hours and the 108 kWh electric car in 16 hours 30 minutes.

How can I tell whether my 2018 to 2023 Cayenne E-Hybrid has the 3.6 kW or 7.2 kW charger?

Check the UK model name on the V5 or the original invoice, because Porsche GB wrote the charger rating into the derivative, for example "E-Hybrid 7.2 kW Charger". The Turbo S E-Hybrid had 7.2 kW as standard. If you cannot find the paperwork, a quick check is to plug into any 7 kW wallbox: a Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid with the standard unit shows around 3.6 kW on the wallbox app and one with the option shows around 7 kW. With the 3.6 kW charger the 16A cable is full speed and nothing dearer will charge faster.

Where does the three phase cable actually pay on a Porsche Cayenne?

Two places. A Porsche Cayenne Electric ordered with the optional 22 kW onboard charger takes 22 kW at public charging stations with a three phase feed, cutting a full charge from 16 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours 30 minutes, and any 11 kW Cayenne, hybrid or electric, at a workplace three phase charger pulls 11 kW. On a home wallbox the three phase cable gives exactly the 7.4 kW the 32A single phase cable does, and on a 2018 to 2023 E-Hybrid it never exceeds the car's own 3.6 kW or 7.2 kW.

Can a 3-pin plug still charge a Porsche Cayenne overnight?

Only the early cars. A Type 2 to 3-Pin cable at 2.3 kW fills a 14.1 kWh 2018 to 2020 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid in 7 hours and a 17.9 kWh 2021 to 2023 car in 8 hours 45 minutes, both inside a long night. The 25.9 kWh 2024 E-Hybrid needs 12 hours 45 minutes and the 108 kWh Cayenne Electric 53 hours, so on the current cars the 3-pin lead is for topping up away from home, not the nightly routine.

How many miles does a Porsche Cayenne add in a seven hour off-peak window?

On the 32A single phase cable at 7.4 kW, a seven hour tariff window puts about 189 miles into a Porsche Cayenne Electric and completely refills the Cayenne E-Hybrid, which holds about 52 miles of electric range and is full in 4 hours. With the 16A cable the electric car gets about 98 miles in the same window, and the 2024 hybrid, which needs 8 hours at 3.7 kW, is still short of full when the cheap rate ends, which is the whole argument for the 32A on both.

Do I need the 5 metre or 10 metre cable for a Porsche Cayenne?

For a Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, 5 metres reaches when the car is reversed in with the wallbox on the driver's side, where the single flap sits in the rear left wing; a passenger side charger or nose-in parking on a 4.93 metre car wants 10 metres. A Cayenne Electric has an AC socket in each rear wing, so 5 metres works from either side of a normal drive and 10 metres is for the kerb or a charger fitted well ahead of the car.

Compatibility

Only the E-Hybrid Cayennes plug in. Every petrol Cayenne and every Cayenne diesel has no charging port at all. Among the plug-ins, the charger matters more than the battery, because Porsche sold two ratings side by side for years. On the 2019 to 2023 cars a 3.6 kW charger was standard and a 7.2 kW charger was roughly a £500 option, and UK cars carry the rating in their official model name, so your V5 or original invoice will tell you which you have. If yours is the 3.6 kW car, a 16A cable is all it can use. From the 2024 car onwards Porsche fitted 11 kW as standard to every E-Hybrid, which halved the charging time. None of the Cayenne plug-in hybrids has DC rapid charging.

    A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
