Product Description

The Dacia Spring is the cheapest electric car on sale in Britain, and it is also the unusual one that does not quietly oblige you to buy a wallbox before it makes sense. Its AC charging tops out at 6.6 kW, a figure Dacia rounds up to 7 kW in its own literature, and every Spring registered here shares it: the current Electric 70 and Electric 100, and the earlier Spring 45 and Spring 65 alongside them.

Start with the cheapest option, because on this car it is a real one. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable draws 2.3 kW out of a standard household socket and returns around thirteen miles of range an hour. Plug the Spring in at six in the evening, unplug it at six the next morning, and you have put back roughly 155 miles against a car that holds 140 miles of WLTP range in total. Twelve hours covers empty to full. For a second car, a flat with a garage socket, or someone whose week is a school run and a supermarket, that is not a fallback. It is a charging method, and it costs nothing to install. The cable is IP67 sealed, so it can live outdoors.

Where there is a wallbox, the Spring connects to it with a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Its socket is a CCS Combo 2 unit, and the Type 2 upper section is the part your cable goes into, matching every home wallbox and every untethered public post in the country.

Our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the quickest sensible choice. Rated at 7.4 kW, it sits comfortably above anything the Spring asks for, so the car helps itself to its full 6.6 kW and goes from empty to full in about four and a quarter hours.

A 16A cable is also perfectly adequate on a Spring, which is not something we can say about most of the cars we sell for. At 3.7 kW the battery needs seven and a half hours from empty, and seven and a half hours still fits inside a night with room to spare. The only thing you give up is daytime turnaround. Get home at five with the battery flat and something on that evening: the 32A cable has you ready by quarter past nine, the 16A cable keeps you waiting until half past midnight. If that scenario never happens to you, the cheaper cable is the right answer.

Nobody driving a Spring should buy the 22 kW three-phase cable. The onboard charger runs on a single phase and stops at 6.6 kW, so extra phases give it nothing to work with. The charge takes exactly as long and the cable costs more.

Length deserves a moment of thought here, because the Spring's charge port is not where you would expect. It is set into the centre of the nose, behind the Dacia badge. Drive nose first at the wallbox and 5m tends to reach, helped by how short the car is. Reverse onto the drive and the cable has to travel the whole body before it even arrives at the socket, so 10m is the buy that will not disappoint. Measure with the Spring standing exactly as you leave it overnight, not as you would ideally like to park it.

Figures for the current car come from its 24.3 kWh battery, and for the 2024 to 2025 car from the 25.0 kWh usable inside its 26.8 kWh pack. Dacia publishes no usable number for the newer battery, so those times run slightly long. Both generations are rated at 140 miles WLTP and share an onboard charger, which is why the cable advice does not change between them. Range added per hour is a mild weather number. The figure drops in winter and at motorway pace.

Both generations of the Dacia Spring use the same onboard charger, so the cable recommendation does not change with model year or power output. Dacia quotes the rate as 7 kW in its own literature and the underlying charger is 6.6 kW, which the 32A single-phase cable covers in full.     A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. This is great if you can park close to the electricity supply and you don't need much length to reach your car this is a great option for you.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M should be sufficient to reach the vast majority of locations where you would like to charge your car. If this isn't enough you can always add an extension cable.

How to chose your charge speed?
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    If you are looking to charge your car using a 3-pin socket this is a great choice for you. The maximum charge speed for a 3 pin socket is 12 amps,  so this cable will be capable of charging at the maximum charge speed but it also gives you the option if you want to charge at a slower speed (Reducing risk and costs).

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.6kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.6kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.2kW. This is the maximum output from a domestic house. A 32amp charge speed will also be able to charge at all lower charge speeds (i.e 16amp - 3.6kW). This is a great choice if you are limited to 7.2kW or you only charge your car at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW. This cable will ensure that your ev charging cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. This cable is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
