Product Description

Buy the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for a Citroen e-C4. Every e-C4 and e-C4 X built uses a Type 2 inlet and a 7.4 kW onboard charger as standard, and 7.4 kW is exactly what a 32A single phase cable carries. That pairing suits almost every driveway in Britain.

Citroen sold an 11 kW three phase charger as a £300 option, and it deserves a warning rather than a recommendation. Eleven kilowatts is a three phase rating, reached only at a three phase supply, which almost no UK home has. Citroen's own price guide goes further and states that on a single phase supply an 11 kW car charges more slowly than a 7.4 kW one. Unless you regularly use three phase posts, the standard charger with a 32A cable will serve you better.

There are two battery sizes to know about. Cars badged 50 kWh, on sale from 2021 and joined by the e-C4 X fastback in 2023, hold 46.3 kWh usable. From June 2023 Citroen added a 54 kWh, 156hp version holding 50.8 kWh usable, offered in both hatchback and X bodies. They share the same connector and the same standard charge rate. The larger pack simply spends about forty five minutes longer on the wallbox.

The 16A cable tops out at 3.7 kW and doubles the wait, so it earns its keep only if you regularly meet a 16A commando post. A Type 2 to 3 pin lead pulls 2.3 kW and needs a full day and night for an empty battery, which makes it a travelling spare rather than a home solution.

For length, measure from the wallbox to the socket with the car parked as it usually is, then allow slack for the days it is not. 5m covers a dedicated bay. 10m covers awkward angles, shared parking, and cars that are sometimes nose in and sometimes reversed.

Petrol PureTech, BlueHDi diesel and 48V Hybrid versions of the C4 have no charging port, so no cable will fit them.

All cables carry a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery. Type 2 to Type 2 leads are IP55 rated, Type 2 to 3 pin leads are IP67.

FAQs

Citroen e-C4 Charging Cable FAQs

Which cable does a Citroen e-C4 need?

The 32A Type 2 to Type 2. Every e-C4 has a Type 2 inlet and a 7.4 kW standard charger, and a 32A single phase cable delivers 7.4 kW, so the car runs at full speed. A 46.3 kWh e-C4 fills in about 7 hours that way, against roughly 14 hours 15 minutes on the 16A cable.

Is the 11 kW option worth paying for?

Not for home charging. The £300 11 kW charger only reaches 11 kW on a three phase supply, and Citroen's price guide warns that on single phase an 11 kW car charges more slowly than a 7.4 kW one. Where three phase is available, a 50.8 kWh e-C4 finishes in about 5 hours 15 minutes.

How long does an e-C4 take to charge at home?

With the 32A cable on a 7.4 kW wallbox, allow about 7 hours for the 46.3 kWh car and about 7 hours 45 minutes for the 50.8 kWh car. An overnight cheap rate window covers both comfortably. Swap to the 16A cable and those become roughly 14 hours 15 minutes and 15 hours 30 minutes.

What separates the 50 kWh and 54 kWh cars?

Capacity and power, not charging hardware. The 50 kWh badge means 46.3 kWh usable and 136hp, on sale from 2021. The 54 kWh badge, introduced in June 2023, means 50.8 kWh usable and 156hp. Both charge at 7.4 kW as standard through the same Type 2 inlet, so one 32A cable suits either.

Does the e-C4 X use a different cable?

No. The e-C4 X is the fastback body of the same car and shares the Type 2 inlet and the 7.4 kW standard charger. It arrived in 46.3 kWh usable form during 2023 and in 50.8 kWh usable, 156hp form from June 2023. A 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits every version.

Do I need a 5m or 10m e-C4 cable?

5m works where the wallbox sits close to the parking bay and the lead runs straight to the socket. 10m buys room for on-street charging, shared driveways, and days when the car ends up facing the wrong way round. Both use the same 32A conductors and charge at identical speed.

Compatibility

Every e-C4 and e-C4 X is Type 2, so any Type 2 to Type 2 cable will fit whatever the trim. Citroen fitted a 7.4 kW onboard charger as standard to all of them and sold an 11 kW three-phase charger as a £300 option. We would rather you knew what that option actually does: it only helps where three-phase power exists, and Citroen's own price guide warns that on a single-phase supply an 11 kW car charges more slowly than a 7.4 kW one. Almost every UK home is single phase. So unless you routinely use three-phase public posts, the standard car and a 32A cable is the right answer.

Sizing guide
  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
