Type 2 to Type 2, 32A three phase, 22 kW (5m / 10m)

The Audi Q4 e-Tron accepts up to 11 kW on AC. This cable carries the fastest version of the car at full speed and works on any three-phase charge point you meet.

Only charging at home? A British house is single phase, so the car draws 7.4 kW whatever cable is plugged into it. The 32A single-phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) gives you all of that for less money.

Every Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron sold in the UK since 2021 charges through a Type 2 inlet and takes a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, and every version but one accepts 11 kW AC, which becomes 7.4 kW for home charging on the single phase supply UK homes have. The one exception is the Q4 35 e-tron, sold new in Britain only between July 2021 and late 2022, whose 52 kWh battery sits behind a 7.2 kW single phase charger. Audi has since replaced its entry car twice, first with the 63 kWh 40 e-tron in 2025 and then with the unbadged 150 kW Q4 e-tron in the June 2026 update, and both of those are 11 kW like the rest of the range. So on a used Q4 the badge decides whether 7.2 kW or 11 kW is the ceiling, and on a new one the amperage question is already answered, leaving only the length to settle.

Choosing an Audi Q4 e-tron charging cable

The right buy for every Q4 at home: the 32A single phase cable. It appears in our menu as 32amp (7.2kW) and carries 7.4 kW, the most a single phase home EV charger can pass, so a 77 kWh Q4 45 e-tron fills from empty in 11 hours 45 minutes, the 59 kWh cars in 9 hours, and a 35 draws its own 7.2 kW limit through it in 8 hours 15 minutes. It is also the only rating we make in 15 metre and 20 metre lengths. Pays only away from the house, and never on a 35: the 32A three phase cable. Its 22 kW power rating means nothing to a vehicle whose charger stops at 11 kW, and a house cannot feed it three phases anyway, so on a driveway it behaves exactly like the single phase lead. Plug an 11 kW Q4 into a workplace or a public 22 kW post and the 77 kWh charge drops from 11 hours 45 minutes to 8 hours, which is the whole of its case. On a Q4 35 e-tron there is no case at all, because a single phase charger uses one phase wherever it is parked. Costs you the night tariff: the 16A cable. Sold as 16amp (3.6kW), it holds any Q4 to 3.7 kW, so the same 77 kWh battery needs 23 hours 30 minutes, and seven hours on the night rate adds about 112 miles where the 32A cable adds about 224. Even on the small battery 35 it stretches a full charge from 8 hours 15 minutes to 16 hours.

The charging flap on a Q4 e-tron is on the rear quarter panel on the driver's side, and the car is 4.59 metres long, 4.6 metres for the 2026 update. Reverse onto a drive with the wallbox on the same side of the house and the flap ends up within a couple of metres of the unit, so 5 metres is enough. Drive in forwards and the flap is now at the far corner of the car, so the lead runs back along the sill and across the drive, and 10 metres is what stops it lying taut. A wallbox on the opposite wall, a car left on the road outside, or a garage set back from the house are what the 15 metre and 20 metre versions are for.

Audi UK's charging guidance says its electric cars come with the Type 2 Mode 3 cable as standard and describes a compact charging system with a household 3-pin plug alongside it, so a Q4 e-tron bought new should have a wallbox lead in the boot and may have a granny charger too. On a used Q4 neither is guaranteed, and the compact system in particular tends to stay with the previous owner. A full charge from empty would take 37 hours 45 minutes, so it is a backup, and the Type B RCD and adjustable current are there to keep an unknown socket safe.

The 77 kWh table uses the 330 mile figure of the 2024 to 2026 Q4 45 e-tron; the 2021 to 2023 40 e-tron was rated at 316 miles and the 2026 Q4 e-tron performance at 359 miles, so their range per hour sits a little under and a little over the column shown, while the times do not change. Within the 59 kWh table the 2025 40 e-tron was rated at 256 miles against the 2026 car's 273. Usable capacities are Audi's own net figures, and the Sportback adds a handful of miles to each rating. Real figures vary depending on weather and speed: a January morning or a long stretch of dual carriageway will both take the range column down.

Which Audi Q4 e-tron versions are limited to 7.2 kW?

Only the Q4 35 e-tron and Q4 Sportback 35 e-tron, the 52 kWh usable entry cars Audi UK sold from July 2021 until late 2022, have a 7.2 kW single phase onboard charger. Every other Audi Q4 e-tron, including the 40 and 50 quattro of 2021 to 2023, the 45, 45 quattro and 55 quattro from 2024, the 63 kWh 40 e-tron of 2025 and all four versions of the June 2026 update, has an 11 kW three phase charger. If you are looking at a used Q4 registered in 2021 or 2022, check whether the boot badge reads 35 before assuming 11 kW.

Do the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron take the same charging cable?

Yes. The Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron shares its Type 2 inlet, its rear driver's side charging flap and its onboard charger with the Q4 e-tron SUV of the same badge and year, so one 32A single phase lead is suitable for both models. The Sportback is rated a few miles further on the same battery, which nudges its range per hour figures up slightly, but charge times are identical.

Where does the 22 kW three phase cable actually pay on an Audi Q4 e-tron?

At a workplace charger or a public 22 kW AC post with a genuine three phase supply, and only on an 11 kW Audi Q4 e-tron. There it takes a 77 kWh car from empty in 8 hours rather than 11 hours 45 minutes, and a 59 kWh car in 6 hours rather than 9. On a home wallbox it delivers the same 7.4 kW as the single phase cable, and on a Q4 35 e-tron it cannot exceed 7.2 kW on any supply, so in both of those cases the extra cost is not worth paying. Whichever rating you choose, the Type 2 to Type 2 cable is also the one to carry for untethered public charging stations; DC rapid charging points have their own tethered CCS connector and need nothing from the boot.

What charging equipment does Audi put in the boot of a Q4 e-tron?

Audi UK's charging guidance states that its electric cars come with the Type 2 Mode 3 AC cable as standard, and describes a compact charging system with a household 3-pin plug as part of the equipment supplied. That is the manufacturer's position; whether the compact system is actually in the boot of a particular Audi Q4 e-tron, especially a used one, is something to check before you rely on it, because it is the item most often kept back or lost. What does a seven hour off peak charge put into an Audi Q4 e-tron?

About 224 miles of WLTP range into a 77 kWh Audi Q4 e-tron on the 32A cable at 7.4 kW, which adds roughly 32 miles an hour, and about 238 miles into the 59 kWh cars, which are lighter on energy per mile. A Q4 35 e-tron at its 7.2 kW limit gains about 203 miles, close to its full 212 mile rating. Swap to the 16A cable and those figures roughly halve, to between 105 and 119 miles, which is the practical cost of the cheaper lead.

Is 5 metres enough cable for an Audi Q4 e-tron parked on a drive?

It is when the Audi Q4 e-tron is reversed in and the wallbox is on the driver's side of the house, because the flap on the rear quarter then sits within a couple of metres of the unit. Park nose in, or mount the wallbox on the other side of the drive, and the flap is at the far corner of a 4.59 metre car, so the cable has to travel back along the car and across the drive, and 10 metres is the sensible choice. Kerbside parking and a detached garage call for 15 or 20 metres.

Compatibility

Trim level makes no difference to charging. Sport, S line, Black Edition, Edition 1 and Vorsprung all use the same onboard charger. What matters is the badge on the boot and the year. The Sportback charges identically to the SUV, only its range differs.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

    A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

    This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

    A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
