Product Description

If you searched for a Volkswagen ID. Crozz, this is the right page under the wrong name. ID. Crozz was a Volkswagen concept badge. No car ever reached a British showroom wearing it. The production version arrived here as the ID.5, and everything below describes that car.

The ID.5 is the easiest car in the ID. family to buy a cable for. Volkswagen never sold a smaller battery version in Britain, so every UK car has the same 77 kWh usable pack, the same Type 2 inlet and the same 11 kW onboard charger. Pro, Pro Performance and GTX 4MOTION charge identically. Trim changes nothing at all.

Buy the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. It delivers 7.4 kW, the maximum a single phase British home can supply, and takes the 77 kWh battery from empty to full in about 11 hours 45 minutes. That is a long session because the battery is large, which is why most owners top up little and often rather than run it flat.

The 11 kW figure on the specification sheet is a three phase rating. Reaching it needs a three phase supply and our 32A three phase cable, and even then the limit is the car's 11 kW rather than the cable's 22 kW. That combination brings a full charge down to roughly 8 hours. On a normal home supply the three phase cable is no quicker than the single phase one, so there is nothing to gain by paying more.

The 16A cable is held to 3.7 kW and needs about 23 hours 30 minutes for a full charge, which is a poor match for a pack this size. A Type 2 to 3 pin cable is slower again, at 2.3 kW and around 37 hours 45 minutes. Keep one in the boot for emergencies, but do not plan to run a 77 kWh car from a household socket.

Length deserves thought on a car this large. A 5m cable can be tight unless the wallbox is mounted right beside where the car stops. 10m removes the guesswork and covers visitors' driveways and public posts as well.

All cables include a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery. Type 2 to Type 2 cables are IP55 rated, Type 2 to 3 pin cables are IP67.

FAQs

Volkswagen ID.5 Charging Cable FAQs

Is the Volkswagen ID. Crozz sold in the UK?

No. ID. Crozz was a concept name and never appeared on a car sold in Britain. The model it became is the ID.5, on sale here from 2022 with a 77 kWh usable battery, a Type 2 inlet and an 11 kW onboard charger. A 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the one it needs.

Which cable does a Volkswagen ID.5 need?

The 32A Type 2 to Type 2. It supplies 7.4 kW, the most a single phase UK home allows, and refills the 77 kWh pack in about 11 hours 45 minutes. Every UK ID.5 shares that battery and that 11 kW charger, so there is no trim by trim decision for you to make.

How long does an ID.5 take to charge at home?

Around 11 hours 45 minutes from empty on a 7.4 kW wallbox with the 32A cable. Most owners never see that number, because a 77 kWh pack is seldom run to zero and regular overnight top ups keep it high. The 16A cable would want roughly 23 hours 30 minutes instead.

Does the three phase cable help an ID.5?

Only with a three phase supply, which British homes do not have. On three phase the car draws its own 11 kW limit rather than the cable's 22 kW, and a full charge drops to about 8 hours. At home the two cables perform exactly the same, so the cheaper one is the sensible buy.

Do ID.5 GTX and Pro use different cables?

No. Pro, Pro Performance and GTX 4MOTION all carry the 77 kWh usable battery, a Type 2 inlet and an 11 kW onboard charger from 2022 onwards. Power output and drivetrain differ between them, charging hardware does not. One 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable covers the entire range.

Should I choose the 5m or 10m ID.5 cable?

10m is the safer choice on a car this size, because parking position rarely stays the same and the extra reach costs nothing in charging speed. 5m is fine where the wallbox is fixed right beside the bay. Both use identical 32A conductors and both carry the full 7.4 kW.

Compatibility

Every UK ID.5 is fully electric, and every one has the 77 kWh battery with an 11 kW onboard charger. Volkswagen did not sell a smaller-battery ID.5 here, so this is the simplest of the ID. range: one charging spec across the board. Trim level makes no difference to charging.

Sizing guide
  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
