Product Description

The Vauxhall Astra Electric takes 11 kW AC, a three phase rating, so the fastest a home wallbox can feed it is 7.4 kW and a 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable delivers precisely that.

Both the Astra Electric hatchback and the Astra Sports Tourer Electric estate take a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable through the Type 2 portion of the CCS Combo 2 inlet. Whichever body you have, the connector is the same.

One thing worth knowing before you compare charge times: almost every Astra Electric on British roads today is the 54 kWh car. Vauxhall only opened orders for the larger 58.3 kWh version in mid 2026, with first deliveries in July of that year, so unless yours is brand new it will be the earlier pack with a WLTP range near 258 miles in the hatch and 257 in the Sports Tourer. Use the first table below.

The 32A single phase cable is the right buy for either battery. It fills the 54 kWh car in about 7 hours 45 minutes and the 58.3 kWh car in about 8 hours 30 minutes, and in both cases returns roughly 38 miles of range for each hour plugged in. A normal seven hour cheap rate period therefore covers a full charge on either car, which is the practical test that matters.

The 16A cable is where Astra owners lose out. At 3.7 kW the car gains about 19 miles an hour, so seven hours overnight returns around 130 miles rather than a full battery. For anyone using an Astra Electric as a daily commuter that is a car that never quite catches up, and the small saving on the cable buys you a permanent charging deficit.

Three phase is a different question. The Astra Electric caps at 11 kW and needs three phases to get there, and British homes are wired for one. On the drive a 22 kW cable will charge your Astra at 7.4 kW exactly like the cheaper single phase lead. Only at a workplace or business unit with a genuine three phase feed does it lift the car to about 56 miles an hour.

A Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable earns its keep as a spare. At 2.3 kW the Astra Electric picks up around 12 miles an hour, adding perhaps 80 miles across a long overnight stop at a house with no charge point. Sports Tourer owners have the boot space to carry both leads without thinking about it, which is one small practical advantage of the estate.

The Vauxhall Mokka-e charging cable and Vauxhall Corsa-e charging cable pages cover the brand's smaller electric cars, and the Vauxhall EV charging cables collection holds the full range.

Delivery is free and next working day across the UK, and a 2 year manufacturer's warranty covers every lead. Cables are built to IEC 62196 Type 2 and certified CE. Sealing is IP55 on a Type 2 to Type 2 lead and IP67 on a Type 2 to 3-Pin one, with -30C to +50C, or +60C for the 3-pin either side of that.

FAQs

Vauxhall Astra Electric Charging Cable FAQs

Which cable is right for a Vauxhall Astra Electric?

A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable. The Vauxhall Astra Electric accepts 11 kW on a three phase supply, which a UK home reduces to 7.4 kW, and the 32A single phase lead carries the full 7.4 kW without restriction.

Which battery is in my Astra Electric?

If your Vauxhall Astra Electric was registered before mid 2026 it has the 54 kWh battery and around 258 miles of WLTP range. The larger 58.3 kWh pack, rated at 281 miles, only reached UK customers from July 2026. Both use an identical 11 kW onboard charger, so the cable choice does not change between them.

Does the Sports Tourer estate charge any slower?

No. The Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Electric shares its battery and 11 kW charger with the hatchback, so both charge in the same time. The estate is rated for a handful fewer WLTP miles, which makes no practical difference to how you charge it.

Is a three phase cable a waste of money on an Astra Electric?

At home, yes. The Vauxhall Astra Electric is limited to 11 kW and that rate needs three phases, which domestic properties in Britain do not receive. A 22 kW cable therefore charges an Astra Electric at exactly the same 7.4 kW as the 32A single phase lead on a home wallbox. It only repays the extra cost if you also charge somewhere with a three phase supply.

What cable length suits an Astra Electric?

The Vauxhall Astra Electric carries its charging flap on the rear left wing, and the hatch measures about 4.4 metres against 4.6 for the Sports Tourer. Backing onto a drive with the wallbox on the left keeps you inside 5m. Parking nose first puts the flap at the far end, so 10m is the safer choice, and estate owners who also load the boot from the same side will appreciate the slack.

Can I take my Astra cable to a public charge point?

Yes. Public AC posts in the UK are mostly untethered Type 2 sockets, and a Vauxhall Astra Electric owner with a Type 2 to Type 2 cable can plug straight into them. Rapid DC chargers have their own fixed cables, so you would not use your own lead there.

Compatibility

Two entirely different Astras plug in and they are not interchangeable. The Astra Electric is the full battery car, with a 54 kWh pack, an 11 kW charger as standard and CCS rapid charging. The Astra Plug-in Hybrid is a petrol car with a small battery, no rapid charging at all, and a much slower onboard charger: 3.7 kW as standard with 7.4 kW as a £500 option. Same nameplate, completely different charging behaviour. Both are Type 2, so the same cable physically fits either, but a 32A cable is only worth the money on the Electric or on a PHEV with the 7.4 kW upgrade. The Astra petrol, diesel and 48V mild hybrid have no charging port at all.

Sizing guide
  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
