Type 2 to Type 2, 32A three phase, 22 kW (5m / 10m)

The Toyota RAV4 accepts up to 11 kW on AC. That is what the 22 kW cable is built for, and a workplace or commercial three-phase supply is where it pays the difference back.

Never charge anywhere but home? Then the extra phases have nothing to connect to. A domestic wallbox gives 7.4 kW and the 32A single-phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) delivers exactly that.

A Toyota RAV4 charging cable fits one version of this car and one only: the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, which takes its power through a Type 2 inlet behind a flap on the rear right wing. The 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 lead is the buy on every one of them. The 2021 to 2025 car accepts 6.6 kW on AC and the all-new 2026 car accepts 11 kW, and that single lead suits both, for two different reasons. The self-charging RAV4 Hybrid, the version Britain bought in far larger numbers, has no socket anywhere on the body and nothing plugs into it. Toyota has now stopped offering that version here, so a badge most of whose owners could never use a cable has quietly become one where every new car needs one.

Choosing a Toyota RAV4 charging cable

Full speed at home: the 32A single phase lead. Shown in the menu above as 32amp (7.2kW), it carries 7.4 kW. A 2021 to 2025 RAV4 draws 6.6 kW of that and refills its 18.1 kWh battery from flat in 3 hours, worth about 17 miles of electric range for every hour it stays plugged in. The 2026 car takes the full 7.4 kW and fills 22.7 kWh in 3 hours 30 minutes at roughly 20 miles an hour, so one off-peak window still covers a whole battery. Nothing at home, real time at a three phase post: the 32A three phase cable. On the 2021 to 2025 RAV4 it is money spent for no result anywhere, because a 6.6 kW charger has only one phase to fill and the extra cores stay cold at a house, at work and at a public Type 2 bay alike. The 2026 RAV4 is the first Toyota plug-in hybrid where that flips: on a true three phase feed it pulls 11 kW and finishes in 2 hours 15 minutes, though a British house will still hand it 7.4 kW and no more. The lead that costs you time: the 16A cable. Sold as 16amp (3.6kW), it pins any RAV4 plug-in to 3.7 kW, which is 5 hours 30 minutes on the older car and 7 hours on the newer one. Put that against a four hour cheap rate slot and it is 36 miles instead of a full 46 mile battery on the older car, or a little over half of the 2026 car's 62. The price gap between the two leads is small set against the hours it saves across both plug-in models.

Length follows the flap. Both generations measure 4.6 metres nose to tail and both carry the socket on the rear right wing, so the only variable is which way the RAV4 sits. Reverse onto a drive with the wallbox on the flap's side, stop in the same spot each night, and 5m has slack in hand. Park nose first, or mount the unit on the opposite wall, and the lead has to travel the length of a family SUV before it turns towards the charger, which is the case 10m exists for. The 32A cable is made in 15m and 20m as well, for a detached garage, a bay shared with a second car, or a post at the far end of a drive. Pace out the route the cable will really take rather than the straight line across the tarmac.

Toyota UK's own RAV4 Plug-in brochure lists a 7.5 metre cable with a home charging plug as standard equipment, which is a 3-pin lead rather than a Type 2 to Type 2 one, and what actually turns up in the boot of a used car is anyone's guess. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable, the lead most owners call a granny charger, replaces it: 2.3 kW from any 13 amp socket, a Type B RCD in the plug body, current adjustable from 6 to 12 amps, IP67 sealing, and about 6 miles of range an hour on either car. A charge from empty runs 9 hours on the older RAV4 and 11 hours 15 minutes on the newer, so a night parked at a relative's house gives back most of a battery. Put it straight into a wall socket, never through an extension reel, which risks overheating a lead carrying current for hours, and look over both plugs for damage every few weeks.

Toyota quotes 18.1 kWh and 22.7 kWh without splitting usable capacity from total, so every time above works from the full number and reads a shade optimistic. Two electric range figures are in circulation for the 2026 car, 100 km at launch and a higher combined figure of 85 miles on Toyota UK's own configurator; the tables use the more cautious 62 miles, which is the one that squares with the size of the battery. A cold morning and a fast A road will each take a bite out of the miles per hour shown.

Can a self-charging Toyota RAV4 Hybrid use a charging cable?

No, because the self-charging Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has no charging socket built into it. It refills a small battery from the petrol engine and from braking, and there is no inlet on the car for any cable to connect to. Look along the rear right wing: if there is no flap behind the wheel arch, the car is a self-charging Hybrid and no cable on this page or anywhere else will fit it.

Which charging cable does a Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid need?

The 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 lead, on both generations of the Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid. It carries 7.4 kW, which is the whole 6.6 kW the 2021 to 2025 car will take and the whole 7.4 kW a house can give the 2026 car, so the vehicle's onboard charger runs as fast as a domestic supply allows. Scheduling and tariff control live in the wallbox rather than the cable, so the same lead works with an Ohme, a Zappi or a Pod Point.

How much time does the 16A cable cost on a Toyota RAV4 plug-in?

Two hours 30 minutes on the 2021 to 2025 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid and 3 hours 30 minutes on the 2026 car. The 16A lead holds either one at 3.7 kW, so an 18.1 kWh RAV4 needs 5 hours 30 minutes rather than 3 hours, and a 22.7 kWh RAV4 needs 7 hours rather than 3 hours 30 minutes. On a plug-in built to cover the first 46 or 62 miles without petrol, that gap shows up as fuel bought rather than electricity.

Will a 22kW three phase cable speed up a Toyota RAV4?

Only the 2026 car, and only where three phases actually arrive at the socket. A 2021 to 2025 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid stops at 6.6 kW on a single phase and the 22 kW cable returns exactly the same 3 hours as the cheaper 32A lead everywhere you plug in. The 2026 RAV4 accepts 11 kW, which cuts a full charge to 2 hours 15 minutes at a workplace or commercial three phase feed, while a domestic supply keeps it at 7.4 kW and 3 hours 30 minutes.

Is a three pin socket enough to charge a Toyota RAV4 plug-in overnight?

Yes on both generations, which is unusual. A Type 2 to 3-Pin cable gives a Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid 2.3 kW from a household socket, filling the 18.1 kWh car in 9 hours and the 22.7 kWh car in 11 hours 15 minutes, so a long night away from a wallbox still returns a usable battery. Treat it as the lead you keep for holiday lets and family driveways, not as the one you use at home every night, where a professionally installed wall box and the 32A lead do the job.

How long a charging cable does a Toyota RAV4 need?

Five metres where the Toyota RAV4 reverses in and the wallbox sits on the same side as the charging flap, 10m for everything else. The socket is on the rear right wing of a 4.6 metre SUV, so parking nose first or charging from the opposite wall means the cable covers most of the car before it heads for the unit. Compatibility

The RAV4 Hybrid and the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid are different cars and only one of them takes a cable. If yours simply says Hybrid, it charges itself from the engine and the brakes and has no socket at all. If it says Plug-in Hybrid, it does. The 2021 to 2025 plug-in has a 6.6 kW onboard charger, so a 32A cable is worth the money rather than a 16A one. The all-new 2026 RAV4 is sold in the UK as a plug-in hybrid only, with a larger 22.7 kWh battery and an 11 kW three-phase charger, which is 7.4 kW on a UK home supply. The 32A single-phase cable is the right buy on both.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
