Product Description

Two versions of the Toyota C-HR plug in, and both take a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable: the C-HR Plug-in Hybrid, which accepts 6.6 kW on AC, and the battery electric C-HR+, which accepts 11 kW on Icon and Design and 22 kW on Excel. One cable covers the lot: the 32A single phase lead. The self-charging 1.8 and 2.0 hybrids have no charging port, and nor did any first generation C-HR. What they do not share is what a cable is for. Toyota UK gives the Plug-in Hybrid 13.6 kWh and up to 41 miles, small enough that every lead here fills it inside a night, so the choice is only about hours. The C-HR+ holds 54 or 72 kWh usable and covers up to 284 or 376 miles, and on a battery that size the wrong lead turns an overnight charge into a two day one.

Ranking the Toyota C-HR charging cable options

The buy on all of them: the 32A single phase cable. Listed in the menu above as 32amp (7.2kW), it passes 7.4 kW, what a British house gives on its single phase supply. A C-HR Plug-in Hybrid draws 6.6 kW of that and fills from flat in 2 hours 15 minutes. A 54 kWh C-HR+ Icon takes the whole 7.4 kW and wants 8 hours 15 minutes, a 72 kWh Design or Excel 11 hours, both at roughly 39 miles an hour. Worth buying on one grade: the 32A three phase cable. On the Plug-in Hybrid it returns nothing anywhere: that car's 6.6 kW charger accepts a single phase and has no use for the other two. On an Icon or a Design it pays only where three phases actually reach the socket, cutting 11 hours to 7 hours 30 minutes at a workplace feed. The Excel is the one C-HR that uses a 22 kW lead to the last amp: its 22 kW onboard charger empties to full in 3 hours 45 minutes on a three phase supply, and at a 22 kW public Type 2 bay it takes everything the cable can pass. The cheaper lead to avoid on the electric cars: the 16A cable. Sold as 16amp (3.6kW), it holds any C-HR to 3.7 kW. On the Plug-in Hybrid that is 4 hours 15 minutes rather than 2 hours 15, an irritation more than a cost. On a 72 kWh C-HR+ it means 22 hours rather than 11, and a seven hour off-peak window puts back around 133 miles against the 32A cable's 273.

Two cars, two measurements. The C-HR Plug-in Hybrid is 4,362 mm long and Toyota does not print its charging flap position, so open the flap and look before choosing a length. The C-HR+ is bigger at 4,520 mm with its Type 2 inlet set into the front left wing, kerb side, so nose-in parking beside a wallbox on that side is the easy case and 5m covers it. Reverse either car in, park a second alongside, or fit the unit on the opposite wall, and the lead travels most of the body before it turns for the socket, which is what 10m is for. Measure the route the cable really follows, down the wall and along the ground, not the shortest line across the drive. The 32A cable is also built in 15m and 20m for a separate garage or a charger at the top of a long drive.

The 3-pin lead is where the two cars part company completely. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable, the lead people call a granny charger, draws 2.3 kW from an ordinary 13 amp socket. On a C-HR Plug-in Hybrid that is a full charge in 6 hours 45 minutes at about 7 miles an hour, so one night on a friend's driveway leaves all 41 miles waiting. On a C-HR+ the same lead returns about 12 miles an hour, a useful top up across a long night but 26 hours 30 minutes from flat on the Icon and 35 hours 15 minutes on a 72 kWh car. Toyota's UK material lists a Mode 2 cable as standard on the Plug-in Hybrid, which is the 3-pin lead and not the Type 2 one a wallbox needs, and says no such thing about the C-HR+. A Type B RCD sits in the plug body, the charging current adjusts between 6 and 12 amps for old house wiring, and IP67 sealing suits an outdoor socket. Run it from the wall direct and avoid an extension reel, which is not safe under hours of continuous load.

Toyota publishes 13.6 kWh for the Plug-in Hybrid without separating usable capacity, so those times work from the full figure and read a shade optimistic; the 54 and 72 kWh used for the C-HR+ come from independent measurement of 57.7 and 77 kWh packs. Toyota UK's press material puts the Plug-in Hybrid's onboard charger at 6.6 kW while some retail literature rounds it to 7 kW, and certified C-HR+ range moves with wheel size, quoted between 350 and 378 miles on the 77 kWh car. Cold conditions and a long run at motorway pace will each cut the miles either car gives back per hour on charge.

Which Toyota C-HR versions can take a charging cable?

The Toyota C-HR Plug-in Hybrid, on sale in the UK since July 2024, and the battery electric Toyota C-HR+, which goes on sale in January 2026 with first deliveries in March. The 1.8 and 2.0 self-charging hybrids have no charging port on the car, and neither did any first generation C-HR built between 2016 and 2023, because those versions top up a small battery from the engine and from braking. If there is no flap to open, nothing on this page or anywhere else will connect to it. Read the badge, then look for the flap, and on a used vehicle a Toyota dealer can settle it from the VIN.

What is the best charging cable for a Toyota C-HR?

The Type 2 to Type 2 cable in its 32A single phase version, in 5m or 10m, on the Plug-in Hybrid and on all three C-HR+ grades. It carries 7.4 kW, which is the most a British home charger can supply, so a C-HR+ charges as quickly as a domestic supply permits and a C-HR Plug-in Hybrid works to its own 6.6 kW ceiling. Scheduling and load limiting are functions of the wallbox, not of the lead, so one 32A cable suits a Hypervolt, a Zappi, an Ohme or any untethered Pod Point. The same cable is what you carry to public charging stations, where untethered Type 2 posts expect every car to arrive with its own lead.

Do the C-HR Plug-in Hybrid and the C-HR+ need different cables?

No, both use the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable, but they use it very differently. The Toyota C-HR Plug-in Hybrid tops out at 6.6 kW and fills its 13.6 kWh battery in 2 hours 15 minutes, so any cable here finishes the job overnight. The Toyota C-HR+ accepts 11 kW or 22 kW, holds 54 or 72 kWh, and needs 8 hours 15 minutes or 11 hours on a 7.4 kW home charger, so the cable decides whether a charge fits in one night. The C-HR+ also has a CCS socket for DC fast charging at up to 150 kW, which comes with its own lead attached to the charge point, while the Plug-in Hybrid has no DC inlet at all. Daily driving on either car still runs on the home charging lead kept on the drive.

Is the 22kW three phase cable a waste of money on a Toyota C-HR?

On the Toyota C-HR Plug-in Hybrid, yes, and on the C-HR+ Icon and Design it only earns its price at a real three phase supply. The Plug-in Hybrid's 6.6 kW charger is a single phase unit, so the extra phases have nothing to deliver into at a house, at work or in a car park. An Icon or Design accepts 11 kW, which is 5 hours 30 minutes or 7 hours 30 minutes where three phases reach the socket and 7.4 kW everywhere else. The C-HR+ Excel is the exception worth paying for: its 22 kW onboard charger empties to full in 3 hours 45 minutes on a three phase feed.

Can a Toyota C-HR be charged from a household plug socket?

On the Plug-in Hybrid it is a proper option; on the C-HR+ it is a top up. A Type 2 to 3-Pin cable pulls 2.3 kW from a 13 amp socket and fills the 13.6 kWh battery of a Toyota C-HR Plug-in Hybrid in 6 hours 45 minutes, and Toyota quotes about 6.5 hours for the same job, so an overnight stop returns all 41 miles. The same lead gives a Toyota C-HR+ about 12 miles of range an hour, useful across a long night but 26 hours 30 minutes or 35 hours 15 minutes from flat. Toyota supplies a Mode 2 lead with the Plug-in Hybrid, and ours adds a 6 to 12 amp adjustable setting and IP67 sealing.

Should I order a 5m or a 10m cable for a Toyota C-HR?

5m where the charging flap ends up within a couple of metres of the wallbox once the car is parked in its usual spot, 10m for anything else. The Toyota C-HR+ measures 4,520 mm and keeps its inlet on the front left wing, so nose-in parking beside a charger on that side is the short run and reversing in is the long one. The Plug-in Hybrid is 4,362 mm and Toyota does not publish where its flap sits, so take that measurement off your own car. The 32A lead is made in 15m and 20m too, for a detached garage or a charger a long way from where the C-HR stops.

Compatibility

Only some C-HRs plug in, and the badge is what tells you. The original C-HR of 2016 to 2023 was petrol or self-charging hybrid, and none of them has a charging port. The second-generation car introduced a genuine plug-in, badged C-HR Plug-in Hybrid 220, in 2024. Toyota gave it a 6.6 kW onboard charger, which is twice what the Prius Plug-in gets, so a 32A cable is worth having on this one. And from 2026 there is the C-HR+, which is a full electric car on a different platform entirely. Three cars, one name family, and only two of them take a cable.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

    A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

    This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
