The Toyota bZ4X accepts up to 22 kW on AC on the 2026 Excel grade. Launch cars took 6.6 kW, cars built from late 2022 take 11 kW, and this cable carries the fastest version of the car at full speed on any three-phase charge point you meet.

Only charging at home? A British house is single phase, so the car draws 7.4 kW whatever cable is plugged into it. The 32A single-phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) gives you all of that for less money.

Every Toyota bZ4X sold in the UK takes a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, plugged into a flap on the front left wing, and the 32A single phase version is the right order on all of them. What decides how much of that cable the car can actually use is the build date, not the battery. Toyota UK's press pack for the bZ4X states the car launched with a 6.6 kW onboard charger and that from Q4 2022 production an 11 kW three phase unit replaced it. A 6.6 kW ceiling is the sort of figure a plug-in hybrid carries, and it sits below the 7.4 kW a British house can deliver, so the very first bZ4X is one of the few electric cars sold here that cannot draw everything a home wallbox offers. Every car built after that can, and the 2026 Excel goes past it.

Picking the right Toyota bZ4X charging cable

The one to order on every bZ4X: the 32A single phase cable. The menu above calls it 32amp (7.2kW), and 7.4 kW is what it passes. An early car accepts 6.6 kW of it and needs 11 hours to put back roughly 64 kWh of usable capacity, worth around 33 miles for each hour it is connected. A car built from late 2022 accepts the whole 7.4 kW and covers the same battery in 9 hours 45 minutes at about 37 miles an hour, while the 2026 car, holding 69 kWh usable behind its 73.1 kWh badge, wants 10 hours 30 minutes. Earns its price on two versions only: the 32A three phase cable. At a house it returns precisely what the cheaper lead returns, because a domestic supply in Britain arrives on one phase and the second and third cores have nothing to meet. Find a real three phase feed at an office car park or a depot and an 11 kW bZ4X comes down to 6 hours 30 minutes. Take a 2026 Excel, the one grade Toyota fits with a 22 kW onboard charger, to a 22 kW Type 2 post and it is done in 3 hours 30 minutes, a rare case of a car using every amp the cable can pass. The false economy: the 16A cable. Listed as 16amp (3.6kW), it caps every bZ4X at 3.7 kW, meaning 19 hours 30 minutes for the 71.4 kWh car and 21 hours for the 2026 73.1 kWh car. Set beside a seven hour cheap rate window, that is roughly 126 miles recovered instead of 259, and the hours that spill past the window are bought at daytime costs.

Length turns on a flap in an unusual place. The bZ4X keeps its charging inlet on the front left wing, ahead of the front passenger door and on the kerb side of a 4.69 metre body, where most electric SUVs sit theirs behind the rear wheel. Pull forward into a space with the wallbox on that side and 5m is comfortable. Back the car in, or hang the unit on the wall opposite, and the run stretches around most of a mid-size SUV before it arrives at the socket, which is the job 10m does. The 32A cable also comes in 15m and 20m for a garage set apart from the house, a driveway two cars deep, or a charge point mounted well back from where the bZ4X stops. Pace out the route the lead will follow, around the bonnet and past the front wheel, before you choose.

Nothing in Toyota UK's bZ4X press pack lists a charging lead among the car's standard equipment, the launch offer covering a home charger and its installation instead, so a used bZ4X turns up with whatever the previous keeper happened to leave behind. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable, the one owners tend to call a granny charger, is worth having anyway: 2.3 kW out of an ordinary 13 amp socket, a Type B RCD inside the plug, a current setting that runs between 6 and 12 amps, IP67 sealing and about 11 miles of range an hour. Of the charging methods open to a bZ4X away from a wallbox it is the one that is always there, though against a battery this size it is a top up rather than a fill, near enough 77 miles over a long night and 31 hours 30 minutes from flat, which earns it a place as the lead that gets a bZ4X away from a cottage with no charge point. Feed it from a wall socket directly rather than an extension reel, and turn the current setting down where house wiring is old.

Toyota publishes 71.4 kWh and 73.1 kWh as total capacity without splitting off the usable figure, so the 64 kWh and 69 kWh used here come from independent measurement and every time is close rather than exact. Certified range varies depending on grade and drive, from 259 miles on an all wheel drive Vision to 317 miles on the front wheel drive car, and the first two tables take the higher number. The 57.7 kWh Icon added for 2026 holds about 54 kWh usable, is certified at 274.6 miles and fills in 8 hours 15 minutes on the 32A single phase cable. Winter temperatures and sustained motorway speed both pull the miles per hour column down.

How do I tell which onboard charger my Toyota bZ4X has?

Go by when the Toyota bZ4X was built rather than by its plate. Toyota UK states the car launched with a 6.6 kW onboard charger and that an 11 kW three phase unit replaced it from Q4 2022 production, so a 22 plate could be either and anything on a 23 plate or later is 11 kW. Quote the VIN to a Toyota dealer if you want it confirmed. The 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the correct order whichever answer comes back.

What cable should a Toyota bZ4X owner buy?

The 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable, in 5m or 10m. It passes 7.4 kW, which is all a UK domestic supply can hand a Toyota bZ4X, so an 11 kW car runs at the fastest rate a house allows and a 6.6 kW car runs flat out at its own ceiling. Timing, tariff control and load management sit in the wallbox rather than in the lead, so the same cable suits an Ohme, a Zappi, a Hypervolt or an untethered Pod Point. Does the 22kW three phase cable do anything on a Toyota bZ4X?

On some versions it does, which makes the Toyota bZ4X unusual. A 2026 bZ4X in Excel grade carries a 22 kW onboard charger and goes from empty to full in 3 hours 30 minutes on a three phase supply. A bZ4X built between late 2022 and 2025 accepts 11 kW and takes 6 hours 30 minutes on the same feed. The earliest 6.6 kW cars gain nothing from it anywhere, and on a domestic supply every one of them settles at 7.4 kW. DC fast charging is a separate system: the bZ4X uses the CCS2 socket beside its Type 2 inlet and the charge point's own attached cable, which Toyota UK puts at around 30 minutes to 80 per cent, so nothing on this page is needed for it.

How long does a Toyota bZ4X take to charge on a home wallbox?

From empty on the 7.4 kW wallbox a British house is normally fitted with, sold as a 7 kW unit, a Toyota bZ4X takes 9 hours 45 minutes as a 2022 to 2025 car with the 11 kW charger, 11 hours as one of the earliest 6.6 kW cars, and 10 hours 30 minutes as the 73.1 kWh model sold from 2026. All three run past a typical off peak window, so owners tend to plug in nightly from half full rather than emptying the battery and filling it in one session. Charging time depends on the size of the battery and on the charger it is plugged into, which is why the three versions differ.

Is a three pin plug any use to a Toyota bZ4X owner?

As a spare yes, as the main way of charging a Toyota bZ4X no.     A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
