Product Description

We would rather lose the sale than sell you a cable you cannot use, so here is the blunt version. SE is a trim level on the diesel NV200, not an electric model. An NV200 SE is a 1.5 dCi panel van with no battery and no charging port, and nothing on this page will connect to it. The same goes for the Acenta, the Visia and the diesel Combi.

Nissan sold the electric van as a separate model called the e-NV200. You can spot one by the charging flap set into the middle of the nose, where the grille badge sits on the diesel. If that describes your van, you need a Type 1 to Type 2 cable, and we suggest the 32A version. Type 1 catches a lot of buyers out, because the Leaf and the e-NV200 kept the five pin round connector long after most of the market had moved to seven pin Type 2. A Type 2 to Type 2 lead cannot be made to fit.

There are two e-NV200 batteries. Vans built between 2014 and 2017 carry 24 kWh and charge at 3.6 kW, or 6.6 kW if the optional faster onboard charger was specified. From 2018 the pack grew to 40 kWh and most builds took 6.6 kW. That is the split that decides your charging time, not the trim badge on the back door. A 24 kWh van on the base charger fills in about seven and a half hours. A 40 kWh van at 6.6 kW takes around six and three quarter hours, despite holding far more energy.

The 32A cable is the one to buy on either. It supplies more than the van can take, so the van sets the pace and you are never held back by the lead. A 16A cable caps you at 3.7 kW, which costs a 6.6 kW van several hours a night. The 3 pin cable is a genuine fallback here rather than a plan, since 40 kWh at 2.3 kW runs to the best part of a day.

The Townstar EV replaced the e-NV200 in 2022 and switched to Type 2, so it takes a different cable from anything listed here. Petrol Townstar TCe 130 models do not plug in.

Nissan NV200 Charging Cable FAQs

Does the NV200 SE need a charging cable?

No. The NV200 SE is a 1.5 dCi diesel van with no battery and no charging port, so no cable on this site will connect to it. SE is a trim level, not an electric version. The electric van Nissan sold was badged e-NV200 and has a charge flap in the centre of the nose.

Which cable does the e-NV200 take?

A Type 1 to Type 2 cable, in the 32A version. The e-NV200 uses the five pin Type 1 inlet Nissan also fitted to the Leaf, so a Type 2 to Type 2 lead will not go in. The 32A cable lets a 6.6 kW van fill its 40 kWh pack in about six and three quarter hours.

How do I tell a 24 kWh van from a 40 kWh?

Go by the year. e-NV200 vans built from 2014 to 2017 carry the 24 kWh pack and charge at 3.6 kW, or 6.6 kW where the optional charger was fitted. From 2018 onwards the battery is 40 kWh and 6.6 kW is standard on most builds. The trim name tells you nothing about either.

Is the 32A cable worth the extra?

Yes on this van, unlike many. A 16A cable holds you to 3.7 kW, so a 6.6 kW e-NV200 with 40 kWh takes over twelve hours instead of under seven. That is the difference between charging inside a night and still charging at breakfast. The 32A cable costs a little more and saves five hours.

Can I run an e-NV200 on a 3 pin cable?

Only as a fallback. At 2.3 kW a 24 kWh van needs nearly twelve hours and a 40 kWh van close to twenty, so a 3 pin lead cannot keep up with daily van use. Keep one for sites with no charge point, and rely on the 32A Type 1 cable for everything else.

Will these cables fit a Townstar EV?

No. The Townstar EV replaced the e-NV200 in 2022 and uses a Type 2 inlet with a 45 kWh usable pack, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Higher trims quote 22 kW, but that is a three phase figure and a UK home supply gives you 7.4 kW. Petrol Townstars do not plug in.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
