Product Description

A Nissan Micra charging cable is a new shopping item for a nameplate that ran on petrol for four decades. The Micra sold from 2026 is battery electric, nothing else, and it takes 11 kW on AC on every grade from the entry car upwards. Nissan badges it simply Micra with no EV suffix, which catches people out, but the petrol version was withdrawn in 2023 and there is no fuel filler on this one.

Underneath, this Micra is a Renault 5 E-Tech. Same platform, same battery sizes, and the same front nearside charge port, which is an unusual place to put one. Owners moving across from an older petrol Micra have nothing to carry over, so the cable choice starts from scratch.

Every Nissan Micra takes a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Type 2 is the AC inlet on both batteries and CCS handles DC through the lower half of the same socket, so the connector end of the decision is closed before you start.

What is genuinely unusual here is that the 11 kW three-phase onboard charger is standard on Engage, Advance and Evolve alike. Plenty of cars at this money give the cheapest grade a slower charger and reserve the quick one for the top of the range. Nissan does not, so a £21,495 Engage charges exactly as fast as an Evolve.

That 11 kW is a three-phase rating, and British houses are wired with one phase. The practical ceiling at home is therefore 7.4 kW, delivered in full by our 1-Phase, 32A cable: about 6 hours from empty on the 40 kWh battery and about 8 on the 52 kWh. A 32A three-phase cable buys nothing on a driveway, because the extra two phases have no supply behind them. Where it does pay is an untethered 22 kW post at work or in a car park, where the Micra pulls its full 11 kW and the 52 kWh battery is done in 5 hours 15 mins.

Skip the 16A cable on this car. It caps the Micra at 3.7 kW, turning that 8 hour charge into 15 hours 45 mins and the 6 hour one into 12 hours 15 mins. In money terms it halves what a cheap overnight tariff is worth to you, from roughly 37 miles of range an hour down to 18 or 19.

A Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable is the one to keep for everywhere else. It draws 2.3 kW from a standard 13A socket, about eleven miles of range an hour, so a night parked at a friend's house is worth roughly 130 miles on the 40 kWh Micra. It is IP67 sealed so it can live outside, and it is worth owning even once a wallbox is fitted at home.

Because the port is on the left front wing, a wallbox mounted beside a house door often ends up behind the car rather than next to the socket. Work out that distance with the Micra parked the way you leave it every night. 5m is fine when the unit sits ahead of the car on the nearside, 10m is the safer answer for nose-in parking or a box on the opposite wall, and 15m and 20m cover long drives and on-street posts.

Range is 198 miles WLTP on the 40 kWh Micra and 260 miles on the 52 kWh, with order books opened in September 2025 and first UK deliveries in January 2026. Does the new Nissan Micra need a charging cable?

Yes. The Nissan Micra sold from 2026 is battery electric only, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging. The petrol Micra it replaces left production in 2023, and no version of the current car burns fuel, which is why Nissan dropped any EV suffix from the name.

Which cable should a Nissan Micra owner buy?

The 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2. It carries 7.4 kW, which is all a single-phase British supply can give a Nissan Micra, and fills the 40 kWh battery in about 6 hours or the 52 kWh in about 8. Buy a Type 2 to 3-Pin cable alongside it for places with no charge point at all.

Do the Nissan Micra grades charge at different speeds?

No. Engage, Advance and Evolve all have the same 11 kW three-phase onboard charger as standard, which is uncommon on a Nissan Micra starting at £21,495. The 52 kWh battery simply takes longer to fill than the 40 kWh one because there is more of it to fill.

Would a 22kW cable charge a Nissan Micra faster?

Not at a house. A Nissan Micra tops out at 11 kW on AC, so it never draws 22 kW, and behind a single-phase domestic supply a 22kW cable performs identically to the 32A single-phase one at 7.4 kW.     A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
