Product Description

Begin with the check most C-Class owners actually need. Does yours plug in at all? The C 180, C 200, C 220 d, C 300 and C 300 d are petrol and diesel cars with no charging port. Only the C 350 e, the C 300 e, the C 300 de and the AMG C 63 S E Performance take a cable.

Every one of those uses a Type 2 socket, so a Type 2 to Type 2 lead is what you want. The amperage question is settled by the year, and the spread across this range is unusually wide.

The 2015 to 2018 C 350 e has a 6.2 kWh battery and accepts 3.7 kW, so a 16A cable covers it completely and a full charge takes about two hours. The 2023 AMG C 63 S E Performance sits in the same bracket for charging purposes, 6.1 kWh and 3.7 kW, and 16A is again all it can use.

The 2019 to 2021 C 300 e, and the diesel C 300 de estate alongside it, both carry 13.5 kWh and accept 7.4 kW. On those a 32A cable halves the job, four hours down to two, which makes it the obvious buy.

The 2022 car changed the numbers once more. The current C 300 e holds 25.4 kWh, four times the 2015 pack, and accepts 11 kW. A 16A lead would need close to eight hours to fill it. The 32A single phase cable brings that down to around four hours at home, which is the practical ceiling, because British houses run on a single phase supply and 7.4 kW is as much as one can deliver. The 11 kW rate appears only at a three phase charge point paired with the three phase cable, where a full charge takes roughly two and a half hours.

Line and trim make no difference to any of this. An AMG Line C 300 e charges exactly like a Sport of the same year, so buy by badge and build year, not by specification.

Does my Mercedes C-Class plug in?

Only if it is a C 350 e, a C 300 e, a C 300 de or an AMG C 63 S E Performance. The C 180, C 200, C 220 d, C 300 and C 300 d have no charging port whatsoever and take no cable. Check the boot lid badge before you order anything from this page.

Which cable does a C 300 e need?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 32A. A 2019 to 2021 C 300 e accepts 7.4 kW and fills its 13.5 kWh battery in about two hours. The 2022 car onwards holds 25.4 kWh and accepts 11 kW, so 32A brings a home charge down to roughly four hours rather than nearly eight.

Is 16A enough for a C 350 e?

Yes. The 2015 to 2018 C 350 e has a 6.2 kWh battery and a 3.7 kW onboard charger, so a 16A cable already matches the car and a full charge takes about two hours. A 32A lead fits and works perfectly well, but it will not shorten that time by a single minute.

How long does a C-Class hybrid take to charge?

That depends on the year. The 6.2 kWh C 350 e takes about two hours on 16A. The 13.5 kWh C 300 e takes about two hours on 32A, or four on 16A. The 25.4 kWh car from 2022 needs roughly four hours at home on 32A, or seven and three quarter hours on 16A.

What cable does the AMG C 63 S E take?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 16A. Despite the performance badge, the 2023 AMG C 63 S E Performance carries only 6.1 kWh and accepts 3.7 kW, so a full charge takes about one and three quarter hours. A 32A cable is not wrong, it simply gives this car nothing extra.

Do C-Class trim levels change charging?

No. AMG Line, Sport, Premium and the rest all charge identically. Only the powertrain badge and the model year matter, which is why a 2015 C 350 e takes 3.7 kW while a 2022 C 300 e takes 11 kW. Order by badge and year, then pick 5m or 10m to suit your parking.

Compatibility

Check your year: the C-Class plug-in hybrid changed enormously. The 2015 C 350 e charges at 3.7 kW from a 6.2 kWh battery. The 2022 C 300 e charges at 11 kW from a 25.4 kWh battery, four times the capacity. Trim and line make no difference to charging.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

    A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

    This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
