Product Description

The Lexus UX 300e takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and the 32A version is the one to order. Both UK batteries share the same onboard charger, rated at 6.6 kW, and that is the number that decides everything on this page. A 32A cable is rated to carry 7.4 kW, comfortably above what the car will ask for, which is exactly what you want.

Before you order, make sure you have the right Lexus. The UX 300e is the full electric model. The UX 250h and UX 300h sit beside it in showrooms with almost the same badge, but they are self-charging hybrids with no socket anywhere on the body, so no cable on this page will do anything for them. If your car has never been plugged in, it is one of those.

Two batteries have been sold here. Cars from 2021 to 2022 carry 45 kWh usable from a 54.35 kWh pack. From 2023 Lexus fitted a much larger 72.82 kWh pack with 64 kWh usable, but left the onboard charger alone at 6.6 kW. The result is that the newer car has considerably more range and takes considerably longer to fill: roughly 7 hours 45 minutes on a 32A cable for the early car against about 11 hours for the later one. Both are still comfortably inside an overnight window on an off peak tariff.

There is no point paying for the three phase cable here. The 6.6 kW ceiling is single phase and lives in the car, so a three phase post cannot feed it any faster. The 16A cable holds the car back to 3.7 kW and turns the big battery into a job of nearly twenty hours, so it only makes sense if your supply genuinely cannot offer more. The Type 2 to 3 Pin cable runs at 2.3 kW and is for emergencies and overnight stays away, not for filling 64 kWh from flat.

One point worth knowing: the UX 300e uses a CHAdeMO port for DC rapid charging rather than the CCS fitted to most newer cars. That has no bearing on which cable you buy, since your cable is only ever used for AC charging.

Which cable does the Lexus UX 300e need?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and we would order the 32A. Every UK UX 300e has a 6.6 kW onboard charger, and the 32A cable is rated to 7.4 kW, so it never becomes the restriction. The 16A alternative would cap the car at 3.7 kW and add hours to every charge for no real saving.

How long does a UX 300e take to charge at home?

On a 32A cable, about 7 hours 45 minutes for the 2021 to 2022 car with 45 kWh usable, and about 11 hours for the 2023 car with 64 kWh usable. Both figures assume starting from empty, which is rare in practice, so a typical top up overnight will be a good deal shorter.

Does the Lexus UX 250h need a charging cable?

No. The UX 250h and the newer UX 300h are self-charging hybrids with no charging port fitted, so there is nothing to connect a cable to. Only the UX 300e, which is Lexus's full electric version of the same car, has a Type 2 socket and needs one of the cables listed here.

Is a three phase cable worth it on a UX 300e?

No, and this is one case where we would steer you away from it. The 6.6 kW limit is built into the car's single phase onboard charger, so plugging into a three phase post changes nothing. You would pay more for a heavier cable and see exactly the same 7 hours 45 minutes or 11 hours.

Does the 72.8 kWh UX 300e charge any faster?

Not on AC. Lexus enlarged the battery for 2023 from 54.35 kWh to 72.82 kWh gross but kept the same 6.6 kW onboard charger, so the bigger pack simply takes longer to fill: about 11 hours rather than 7 hours 45 minutes. The cable you need is identical for both cars.

Should I choose the 5m or 10m UX 300e cable?

Five metres works when your charge point is within a couple of paces of the car's socket and you always park the same way round. Ten metres is worth having if the unit is on the far side of a shared drive or a garage wall, or if you regularly use car park bays. Charging speed is unaffected.

Compatibility

Two things about the UX 300e that catch people out. The first is the name: the UX 300e is a full electric car, while the UX 250h and UX 300h are self-charging hybrids with no charging port at all. One letter apart, completely different cars. The second is the rapid charging port. For a car launched in 2021, the UX 300e is unusual in using CHAdeMO rather than CCS for DC charging, which matters because CHAdeMO posts are becoming scarcer on the UK network. For AC charging, which is what a cable is for, it is a normal Type 2 socket. The onboard charger is 6.6 kW on every UK car, including the later 72.8 kWh version, so a 32A cable is the right buy and there is no faster version to look for.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
