Product Description

If you have researched the Leapmotor C10's charging speed you have probably seen two different numbers. Some specification databases list an 11 kW onboard charger. Leapmotor's own UK material, and every reviewer who has actually plugged one in, says 6.6 kW. It is worth settling before you spend money on a cable, so here is what the disagreement does and does not change.

It does not change which cable you buy. The C10 has a Type 2 socket and needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and the correct choice is the 32A single-phase version either way. If your car is a 6.6 kW car, the 32A cable lets it take all 6.6 kW. If it turns out to be an 11 kW car, that 11 kW rating is a three-phase figure, and on a single-phase British house it would draw 7.4 kW, which the same 32A cable delivers in full. One cable covers both outcomes.

What it changes is the clock. At 6.6 kW the 69.9 kWh battery goes from empty to full in about twelve hours and gains roughly 25 miles of range an hour. At 7.4 kW it would be closer to ten and three quarter hours and 28 miles an hour. Useful to know, not worth a different purchase.

The cable that does matter is the one to avoid. A 16A cable caps the car at 3.7 kW, which turns a twelve hour charge into more than twenty one hours and cuts you to fourteen miles an hour. On a battery this size that is the difference between a full car in the morning and a part-charged one.

Times use the full 69.9 kWh figure. Range added per hour is derived from the car's WLTP efficiency and will fall in cold weather and at motorway speeds.

Because the C10's charger is single phase, the 3-Phase 32A cable gains you nothing here. It is the same 6.6 kW for more money. That cable earns its keep on the B10 and B05, which are genuinely three-phase 11 kW cars.

A household socket is a different proposition on a 69.9 kWh battery than it is on a small hatchback. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable gives about nine miles an hour, so an overnight stint adds around 115 miles. That is a genuinely useful top-up when you are staying somewhere without a wallbox, and it is IP67 sealed so it can live outside while it works. It is not a way to run a C10 day to day.

The C10 also takes 84 kW DC rapid charging, which needs nothing from you because rapid units carry their own attached cable. Your cable is for the wallbox at home, the post at work, and the untethered Type 2 units that make up most on-street and car park charging in Britain.

The charge flap is on the rear left. Lengths run 5m to 20m, and 10m is what most C10 owners choose because the car is 4.7m long and the socket ends up a long way from a wall-mounted box if you park nose in. Leapmotor C10 Charging Cable FAQs

So is the C10 a 6.6 kW car or an 11 kW car?

Leapmotor UK's own press material states 6.6 kW, and owners report seeing about that on their wallboxes. The 11 kW figure appears mostly in aggregated specification databases and is documented as an upgrade in some other markets rather than Britain. If you want certainty for your own car, ask your Leapmotor dealer for the build specification sheet. Either way the 32A single-phase cable is the correct buy.

Will a C10 charge fully overnight?

From completely empty, no. Twelve hours is longer than most people leave a car plugged in, and longer than a cheap-rate window. In practice you are not charging from zero: going from 20 to 80 percent takes around seven hours on the 32A cable, which fits an overnight charge comfortably.

Should I buy the three-phase cable in case I upgrade my supply?

Not for this car. Even with three phases at the wall, the C10's onboard charger only draws from one of them, so the cable makes no difference to the speed. Buy it when you buy a car that can use it.

Is a 3-pin cable worth having for a C10?

As a boot spare, yes. Nine miles an hour will not run the car, but it turns any relative's garage or holiday cottage socket into an overnight 115 mile top-up, and it is the difference between planning your route around chargers and not.

Where is the charging socket on a C10?

Behind a flap on the rear left wing, roughly level with the rear wheel. It matters for cable length, because on a 4.7m car parked nose in that puts the socket about as far from a driveway wallbox as it can be.

Does the same cable fit the C10 Hybrid EV?

Yes. Both use a Type 2 inlet and both take 6.6 kW, so one 32A cable serves either car. The Hybrid EV has a much smaller battery, so it simply finishes far sooner.

Both C10 trims share one battery and one charge rate, so there is no specification to check before ordering. Note that some third-party databases list this car at 11 kW. Leapmotor UK states 6.6 kW. The 32A single-phase cable is the right choice on either figure, because 11 kW is a three-phase rating and a British house supplies one phase.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
