Product Description

Three hours and fifteen minutes. That is empty to full on a Leapmotor B10 Hybrid EV using a 32A cable, and it is the fastest complete charge of anything Leapmotor sells in Britain. The battery is the smallest in the range at 18.8 kWh, and the car still accepts 6.6 kW on AC, so the maths works out very much in your favour.

That number changes how you use the car. A 50 mile electric range is not enough to cover a week, so this is a plug-in-often car rather than a plug-in-overnight one. The point is that plugging in often is easy when a full charge fits inside an evening at home, a morning at the office, or a long afternoon in a supermarket car park. Owners who treat it that way run on electricity for most local driving and only wake the petrol generator up for longer trips.

The socket is a Type 2, so the cable is a Type 2 to Type 2. Our 32A single-phase cable is the one to buy, because it lets the car draw its full 6.6 kW and gain about 18 miles of electric range an hour.

Choose the 16A cable and the car is capped at 3.7 kW. Empty to full becomes five and three quarter hours and you gain ten miles an hour instead of eighteen. That is still an overnight charge, but it takes the car out of the useful territory where a top-up fits into a couple of hours between errands, which is exactly the behaviour that keeps this car cheap to run.

The 3-Phase 32A cable has no role here at all. The B10 Hybrid EV's onboard charger is single phase, so a three-phase cable draws the same 6.6 kW at greater cost. Save the money.

Times use the 18.8 kWh capacity. Electric range added per hour is derived from the official electric range and will fall in cold weather and at motorway speeds.

The B10 Hybrid EV is listed as supplied with a Type 2 cable and a domestic 3-pin cable, so check what is in your boot before ordering. Leapmotor does not publish the rating of the AC cable, and it makes a real difference on this car, so look for 16A or 32A moulded into the plug. Length is the other reason people buy a second cable, since supplied cables are usually 5m and the B10's charge flap sits on the rear right.

A household socket is a reasonable fallback on a battery this small. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable gives about six miles an hour, so nine and a quarter hours plugged in overnight is a complete charge. It is IP67 sealed, so it copes with sitting on a wet driveway. On the pure electric B10 the same cable takes 33 hours, which puts the difference in perspective.

Lengths run 5m to 20m, with 10m the common choice. Every cable ships CE certified, IP55 sealed on the Type 2 to Type 2 and IP67 on the Type 2 to 3-Pin, rated from -30C to +50C, or +60C for the 3-pin, with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery.

Is three and a quarter hours really a full charge?

Yes. Small battery, decent charger. 18.8 kWh at 6.6 kW is a little over three hours once you allow for charging losses. It is the same reason a phone with a small battery fills faster than a tablet on the same plug.

Should I be charging it every single day?

If you want the cheapest miles, yes. With 50 miles of electric range the battery is doing its job when it is being emptied and refilled regularly. There is no benefit in saving the charge, because the petrol generator is always there as backup for anything longer.

Is a 16A cable fine given the battery is so small?

It will always finish overnight, so it is not a disaster. But at ten miles an hour a two hour evening top-up gets you twenty miles, where the 32A cable gets you thirty six. On a car you are plugging in most days, that gap adds up quickly.

Can I top up at a supermarket or car park post?

That is one of the better uses of this car. Untethered Type 2 posts are common in supermarket and town centre car parks, and an hour of shopping is worth around 18 miles of electric range with the 32A cable. Take the cable, plug in, come back to a fuller battery.

Does the petrol side of the car still need charging if I do long miles?

No, the generator looks after itself, but a full battery still helps on a long trip. The car will draw from the pack first and start the generator when it runs low, so arriving at the motorway with a full battery buys you the first 50 miles on electricity.

Will frequent charging wear the battery out?

Not in any way you will notice. Batteries in plug-in hybrids and range extenders are designed for daily cycling, and the pack keeps a hidden buffer at each end so you never actually take it to a true zero or a true hundred percent. Charging every day is normal use, not abuse.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
