Product Description

A Land Rover Discovery Sport charging cable has to suit an onboard charger rated at 7 kW, and that rating is the same on the P300e sold from 2020 to 2024 and on the P270e that replaced it. Land Rover changed the badge and the power output, not the charging hardware. The pack stayed at 15 kWh gross with 12.17 kWh usable through both versions, so the model year on the V5 changes neither which cable you order nor how long the car sits on charge.

Every plug-in Discovery Sport uses a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Land Rover puts the inlet on the rear wing, on the opposite side of the car to the fuel filler flap, and that single detail matters more here than the amperage does. A charging bay laid out for a car with a front inlet leaves this one reaching most of a car length further than the driver expected.

Land Rover quotes 7 kW and does not break that figure into phases, so treat it as a flat ceiling. Our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable carries 7.4 kW, comfortably clear of that ceiling, which makes it the right lead for a driveway or a car park post. The 32A three-phase version carries a 22 kW rating this car cannot reach from either end: a domestic supply in Britain is fed by a single phase, and the Discovery Sport stops at 7 kW even where three phases exist. Buy it only if a genuinely three-phase site is part of your week and something faster than this car is plugged in beside you.

The 16A lead is the one to think about twice. It pegs the car at 3.7 kW, which stretches a 2 hour fill to 3 hours 45 mins and halves the value of an hour on the drive, roughly 10 electric miles rather than 20. Overnight that gap hides itself because both leads finish well before morning. It shows up on the plug-in after work, where one hour is the difference between the next short trip running on electricity and the engine starting instead.

The three-pin lead is the one this car is most likely to be missing. Land Rover's 2021 UK price list made the Mode 3 public charging cable standard equipment and sold the Mode 2 three-pin home cable as a £300 option, which is the reverse of what most plug-in buyers assume, so a used P300e can easily arrive with nothing in the boot that fits a household socket. Land Rover does not state whether the same split still applies to the current P270e, so look before you assume. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable runs at 2.3 kW, worth about 6 electric miles an hour and 6 hours from empty, adjusts down to 6A for older house wiring and is IP67 sealed.

Does a Land Rover Discovery need a charging cable?

Only if it is a Discovery Sport. The full-size Land Rover Discovery has never been offered as a plug-in hybrid in any form, so every one of them is petrol, diesel or mild hybrid with no socket to plug into. The Discovery-badged car that charges from the mains is the Discovery Sport, in P300e or P270e form, and it is five-seat only. A seven-seat Discovery Sport is not a plug-in.

Which cable should a Discovery Sport P300e owner buy?

A Land Rover Discovery Sport P300e wants the 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Its onboard charger accepts 7 kW, that cable is rated to 7.4 kW, and the 12.17 kWh usable pack goes from empty to full in about 2 hours as a result. The same lead plugs straight into an untethered public Type 2 post, which uses the identical socket.

Did the Discovery Sport come with a three-pin cable?

Often not. Land Rover's 2021 UK price list supplied the Mode 3 public charging cable as standard on the Discovery Sport P300e and listed the Mode 2 three-pin home cable as a £300 extra, so plenty of cars from that era were delivered without one. Whether the current P270e follows the same rule is not published, which is why the boot is worth checking before a long weekend away rather than after it.

Would a 22kW cable speed up a Discovery Sport plug-in hybrid?

No. A Discovery Sport P300e or P270e draws a maximum of 7 kW from any AC supply, so a 22 kW three-phase lead reaches the car and finds a charger that will not take it. A British house has one phase to give in any case, capping the wallbox at 7.4 kW. The 32A single-phase cable already covers what the car can use, and the money is better spent on getting the length right.

Is the P270e different to charge from the P300e?

No, and the lower-case letter is the only thing that matters on the badge. The Discovery Sport P270e replaced the P300e in 2024 with the same 7 kW charger and the same 15 kWh pack, so charging times are identical and only the quoted electric range moves, from 34 miles at the P300e's 2020 launch to 36 or 37 miles on the P270e. A P300, P250, P200, D200 or D165 has no plug at all. Both plug-in versions also carry a CCS2 inlet for DC rapid charging at 32 kW, which needs no cable of your own.

How long a lead does a Discovery Sport need?

Longer than most drivers first guess, because the Discovery Sport carries its charge inlet on a rear wing rather than at the front. Work out which end of the car faces your wallbox when it is parked as you normally leave it, then measure to that rear corner rather than to the nose. Owners who reverse onto a driveway with a wallbox by the house door are usually fine on 5m; anyone who drives in nose first is measuring the whole car and should be on 10m. The 15m and 20m leads suit detached garages and shared bays where the post is nowhere near the parking space.

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
