Product Description

A Kia EV2 charging cable has to suit an onboard charger rated at 11 kW AC, three phase, and that charger is fitted as standard right across the range, from the Air at £27,995 up to the GT-Line S. UK reservations opened in April 2026 and Kia has said first deliveries follow later in the year, so almost everyone reading this is buying a cable before the car itself turns up. The useful thing to settle at that stage is that both batteries, the 42.2 kWh and the 61.0 kWh, draw power at exactly the same rate. The trim you ordered decides how long the car sits on charge, not which cable goes with it.

Every Kia EV2 takes a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. The inlet is Type 2 for AC and CCS for DC, and it sits at the front of the car on the offside, the right hand corner as you look forward. That does not vary by battery, body or trim, so half the decision is already made before the car is built.

The other half is speed, and this is where new owners get caught out. An 11 kW rating counts three phases arriving together. A British house is fed by one, and a wallbox cannot invent the missing two, so the EV2 settles at 7.4 kW on a domestic supply. Our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable carries every watt of that, which makes it the cable to have waiting on delivery day. The 32A three-phase version is worth the extra only where three phases genuinely exist, usually a workplace or a commercial unit, and even there the EV2 stops at 11 kW.

A 16A cable is the choice to think twice about. It pegs the car to 3.7 kW, so the 61.0 kWh EV2 goes from 8 hours 45 mins empty to full up to 17 hours 45 mins, and the miles gained per hour drop from about 35 to about 18. Across a seven hour off-peak window that is roughly 245 miles of cheap electricity against roughly 126. The money saved on the cable is spent back the first time you need a useful top-up during the day.

Add a Type 2 to 3-Pin cable to the order if you can. At 2.3 kW it returns around 11 miles an hour, so it is never the cable you charge on at home, but a brand new EV2 sitting on the drive while the wallbox installation date slides is exactly the situation it exists for. It is adjustable from 6A to 12A so it can be turned down on older house wiring, and IP67 sealed for use outdoors.

The rest of Kia's electric line-up charges to its own limits. The EV3 is the next size up from the EV2, the EV6 and EV9 are the larger 800V cars, and the whole Kia charging cable range is listed together.

On specification: IEC 62196 Type 2 build, CE certified, an IP55 seal on the Type 2 to Type 2 and IP67 on the Type 2 to 3-Pin, and a working range of -30C to +50C, or +60C for the 3-pin. Two years of manufacturer's warranty, and UK delivery is free next working day.

Which charging cable does a Kia EV2 need?

A Kia EV2 needs a Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable, and the 32A single-phase version is the one to buy for home use. The EV2's onboard charger is rated at 11 kW three phase, which becomes 7.4 kW on a normal UK house supply, and the 32A single-phase cable delivers that in full. The same cable also works on untethered public AC posts, which use the identical Type 2 socket.

Do the two Kia EV2 batteries charge at the same speed?

Yes. Both Kia EV2 batteries take AC at 11 kW three phase, or 7.4 kW at a British home, because the onboard charger is identical in the 42.2 kWh First Edition and the 61.0 kWh Air, GT-Line and GT-Line S. What changes is the duration. On a 7.4 kW wallbox the smaller pack fills in 6 hours 15 mins and the larger one in 8 hours 45 mins. Ordering a higher trim does not change the cable you need.

Is a 22kW three-phase cable worth it on a Kia EV2?

Only if you charge somewhere with a genuine three-phase supply, such as a workplace car park. A Kia EV2 will not accept 22 kW under any circumstances because its charger tops out at 11 kW, and a house that has only one phase available cannot push more than 7.4 kW down the cable regardless of what the cable is rated for. On three phase the EV2 does fill its 61.0 kWh pack in about 6 hours instead of 8 hours 45 mins, so the cable is a sensible buy for that case and a waste of money for any other.

How long does a Kia EV2 take to charge at home?

A Kia EV2 charges from empty on a 7.4 kW home wallbox in 6 hours 15 mins with the 42.2 kWh battery and 8 hours 45 mins with the 61.0 kWh battery. Both fit inside an overnight charge, and both put back around 35 miles for every hour plugged in. Nobody arrives home at zero, so a typical night is far shorter than either figure.

Is a three-pin cable any use on a Kia EV2?

A three-pin cable is a useful spare for a Kia EV2 rather than a way to run one. It gives 2.3 kW, roughly 11 miles an hour, so a full charge of the 61.0 kWh battery takes 28 hours 30 mins. Where it earns its place is the gap between taking delivery of the car and having a wallbox fitted, plus nights away where the only supply is a socket in a garage.

What length cable does a Kia EV2 need?

Measure from the wallbox to where the front right corner of the Kia EV2 will sit when parked, because that is where the charge flap is. Owners who drive nose in towards the wall usually find 5m is plenty. Reverse onto the same driveway and the inlet ends up a full car length further away, which is where 10m starts to make sense. The 15m and 20m cables are for detached garages, long shared driveways and parking bays that are not next to the house.

Both Kia EV2 batteries accept the same 11 kW, so the cable is the same whichever trim you have ordered and only the charging time changes. A single-phase home supply lets the car draw 7.4 kW, which is exactly what the 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable delivers.     A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
