Type 2 to Type 2, 32A three phase, 22 kW (5m / 10m)

The Jaguar I-Pace accepts up to 11 kW on AC. That is what the 22 kW cable is built for, and a workplace or commercial three-phase supply is where it pays the difference back.

Never charge anywhere but home? Then the extra phases have nothing to connect to. A domestic wallbox gives 7.4 kW and the 32A single-phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) delivers exactly that.

Jaguar changed the I-Pace's onboard charger in the middle of 2020, and at a British house the change makes almost no difference at all. Cars up to 20MY have a 7 kW single phase charger. From 21MY, announced in June 2020, every I-Pace got an 11 kW three phase unit as standard. A home supply carries one phase and tops out at 7.4 kW, so both cars charge at roughly the same speed on a domestic wallbox. The upgrade only shows itself on a three phase supply, which is why so many owners have never noticed which one they own.

Both versions use a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Jaguar puts the charging flap on the front wheel arch, nearside, so the lead reaches in at the kerb-side front corner rather than anywhere near the back of the car.

The 32A single phase cable is the right buy for either. On a 7 kW car it gives the full rate the charger can take, and on an 11 kW car it gives the full 7.4 kW a house can deliver. The 32A three phase cable only pays on a 21MY or later I-Pace at a workplace with three genuine phases, where a full charge falls from 13 hours to 8 hours 45 minutes. On a pre-2021 car there is no benefit to be had anywhere, since its onboard charger is a single phase unit.

The 16A cable is not worth the saving on a 90 kWh battery. Twenty five and three quarter hours is not a charging strategy, and it drops recovery to about 13 miles an hour on a car with 292 miles of range.

Every I-Pace left the factory with a 3-pin lead, and plenty have since lost it. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable gives 2.3 kW from a 13 amp domestic socket, around 8 miles an hour, which is no way to fill this battery but does mean a night at a relative's house is worth sixty or seventy miles. Jaguar published the pack only as 90 kWh gross, so the 84.7 kWh usable figure comes from third party measurement. The changeover happened during 2020, so a car registered late that year could be either. A cold snap or a long motorway stint will each pull these miles down.

What cable fits a Jaguar I-Pace?

Every Jaguar I-Pace uses a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, and the 32A single phase version suits both charger versions at home. It gives a pre-2021 car its full 7 kW and a 2021 on car the full 7.4 kW a British house can supply.

Does my I-Pace have the 7kW or the 11kW charger?

Cars up to 20MY have 7 kW single phase and 21MY onwards have 11 kW three phase, standard on both counts rather than optional. Jaguar announced the change in June 2020, so a car registered in the second half of that year could be either and the registration date will not settle it. At home the two charge at almost the same speed anyway.

Would a three phase cable help a Jaguar I-Pace?

Only on a 21MY or later car, and only where three genuine phases exist. There it takes a full charge from 13 hours to 8 hours 45 minutes. On a pre-2021 I-Pace it cannot help at all, because that car's onboard charger is single phase, and on any house supply it delivers exactly what the cheaper 32A cable delivers.

How long does a Jaguar I-Pace take to charge at home?

About 13 hours from empty on a 32A cable for a 2021 on car, and 13 hours 45 minutes for an earlier one. This is a big battery, so most owners top up rather than fill, and a seven hour overnight window returns roughly 180 miles.

How long a cable does a Jaguar I-Pace need?

The socket sits on the nearside front wheel arch of a 4.68 metre car, well forward. That makes 5m marginal on most driveways, because a wallbox mounted at the rear or on the driver's side leaves the lead crossing the whole car. This is a 10m car more often than not.

Can an I-Pace use public AC chargers with this cable?

Yes. The great majority of British public AC points are untethered, meaning the driver supplies the lead, so one cable covers home and away. CCS rapid chargers have their cable built in and need nothing from you.

Compatibility

The I-PACE is Type 2 throughout, so any Type 2 cable fits, but the onboard charger changed part way through its life and it is worth knowing which you have. Cars built up to the 2020 model year have a 7 kW charger. From the 2021 model year Jaguar fitted an 11 kW three-phase charger as standard, which it announced specifically for customers with three-phase supplies. The honest caveat is that a UK home is single phase, so even a 2021 or later I-PACE charges at about 7.4 kW on your own wallbox. The 11 kW only appears on a three-phase post. A 32A Type 2 cable is right for home either way. Jaguar closed UK order books on the I-PACE in November 2024.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
