Product Description

The Ford Capri charging cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2, and every Ford Capri accepts 11 kW on AC, three phase, whichever battery is under the floor. Standard Range RWD, Extended Range RWD and Extended Range AWD all pull the same rate. The battery decides how long the car sits on the cable, not how fast it fills.

This is the electric Capri, the five door SUV Ford launched in the UK in October 2024 and updated for MY26 in April 2026. It is battery electric only, with no petrol, hybrid or plug-in hybrid version anywhere in the range, so every Capri on a British driveway plugs in. The inlet is Type 2 for AC and CCS for DC, which makes the home and public AC cable a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable on all three versions.

The 11 kW rating is a three-phase figure. A British house is fed by one phase, and the second and third conductors inside a three-phase cable have nothing at the meter to connect to. Plugged in at home the Capri therefore draws 7.4 kW, and our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable delivers every watt of that. The 32A three-phase cable earns its extra cost only where three phases already come into the building, which in practice means a workplace, a unit or a farm supply.

A big battery is exactly where 16A hurts. On the Extended Range RWD's 79 kWh pack a 16A cable holds the car to 3.7 kW and turns a 12 hour charge into a 24 hour one. People buy a Capri for the 390 miles, and a car driven that way arrives home properly empty every so often. Twelve hours fits inside a night. Twenty four hours fits inside nothing. Measured against a seven hour off-peak window the gap is starker still: about 260 miles put back on the 32A cable, about 126 miles on the 16A.

The Type 2 to 3-Pin cable belongs in the boot rather than on the driveway. At 2.3 kW it returns roughly 11 miles an hour, so the Extended Range battery would need 38 hours 45 mins from flat. What it genuinely buys is a night somewhere with no charge point at all, a cottage, a relative's garage, a hotel car park, where twelve hours on a household socket still leaves around 130 miles in the pack by breakfast. It is IP67 sealed, so weather is not a reason to unplug it.

The Capri sits on the same MEB platform as the Ford Explorer and shares its batteries and its 11 kW charger, so the cable answer is identical on both cars. The Ford Mustang Mach-E also charges at 11 kW, on a larger pack again. The rest of the range is in the Ford charging cable collection.

The Extended Range AWD uses a slightly smaller 77 kWh battery rated at 368 miles, so it finishes about fifteen minutes sooner on a 32A cable.

Range added per hour comes from each version's WLTP efficiency. Winter temperatures and fast A road or motorway work reduce it.

Which charging cable does a Ford Capri need?

A Ford Capri needs a Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable, and the 32A single-phase version is the one to buy for home use. The Capri's inlet is Type 2 for AC charging, so that cable works on a home wallbox and on any untethered public AC post. A Type 2 to 3-Pin cable is a separate item for household sockets, not a substitute.

Do the Ford Capri battery options charge at different speeds?

No. All three Ford Capri versions have the same 11 kW onboard charger, so the Standard Range 58 kWh, the Extended Range RWD 79 kWh and the Extended Range AWD 77 kWh all draw 7.4 kW from a UK single-phase wallbox. The difference is duration. On a 32A cable the Standard Range is full in 8 hours 45 mins and the Extended Range RWD in 12 hours.

Is a three-phase cable worth buying for a Ford Capri?

Only if the Ford Capri will be plugged into a genuine three-phase supply. On three phases the car takes its full 11 kW and the Extended Range RWD drops from 12 hours to 8. On the single-phase supply that feeds a normal house the same cable delivers 7.4 kW, exactly what the cheaper 32A single-phase cable already gives you. If you charge at a workplace with three-phase power, buy it. If you charge on a driveway, do not.

How long does a Ford Capri take to charge overnight?

A Ford Capri Standard Range charges fully overnight on a 32A cable, taking 8 hours 45 mins from empty at 7.4 kW. The Extended Range RWD needs 12 hours from completely flat, which is longer than most nights, though very few owners run a 390 mile car to zero. In a seven hour off-peak window the 32A cable returns around 260 miles, which covers almost any normal day's driving.

Can a Ford Capri be charged from a three-pin socket?

Yes. A Ford Capri charges from a household socket using a Type 2 to 3-Pin cable at 2.3 kW, adding about 11 miles of range an hour. That is 28 hours 30 mins from empty on the Standard Range and 38 hours 45 mins on the Extended Range, so it is a way of topping up while you are somewhere without a charge point rather than a way of running the car. The cable is IP67 sealed and adjustable from 6A to 12A if the socket or its wiring needs the lower setting.

What length cable does a Ford Capri need?

Measure from your wallbox to the rear offside of the car, because that is where the Ford Capri's charge flap sits, on the driver's side behind the rear door. If you reverse onto a driveway with the wallbox on the same side, 5m usually reaches. If you park nose in, or the wallbox is on the opposite wall, the cable has to travel the length of a 4.6m SUV and round it, so 10m is the sensible choice. 15m and 20m exist for detached garages and shared parking bays.

The Capri is battery electric only, so every Capri needs a cable and every Capri needs the same one. Ford fits the same 11 kW three-phase onboard charger to all three versions, which is why the recommendation does not change with the battery: a bigger pack takes longer, not a different cable. On a UK single-phase house supply all three draw 7.4 kW, delivered in full by a 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and the 32A three-phase cable is only worth buying if a three-phase supply is available. Ford states the car comes with a Type 2 Mode 3 cable but does not publish its length or amperage.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. This is great if you can park close to the electricity supply and you don't need much length to reach your car this is a great option for you.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M should be sufficient to reach the vast majority of locations where you would like to charge your car. If this isn't enough you can always add an extension cable.

How to chose your charge speed?
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    If you are looking to charge your car using a 3-pin socket this is a great choice for you. The maximum charge speed for a 3 pin socket is 12 amps,  so this cable will be capable of charging at the maximum charge speed but it also gives you the option if you want to charge at a slower speed (Reducing risk and costs).

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.6kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.6kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.2kW. This is the maximum output from a domestic house. A 32amp charge speed will also be able to charge at all lower charge speeds (i.e 16amp - 3.6kW). This is a great choice if you are limited to 7.2kW or you only charge your car at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW. This cable will ensure that your ev charging cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. This cable is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
