Product Description

The EV Charger Cable Holder answers a question that only comes up once you have owned an electric car for a few weeks. Where does the cable actually go when it is not plugged in? Left on the garage floor it gets walked on and swept along with everything else. Draped over the wallbox it slides off. A bracket gives it a fixed place on the wall.

This one is made of metal, so it carries the weight of a coiled charging lead without flexing or pulling out of shape over time. It measures roughly 12.4 x 8.8 x 7 cm and weighs 264g, which makes it small enough to sit neatly beside a wallbox rather than dominating the wall.

It can be used indoors or outdoors. A garage wall next to the charge point is the obvious spot, but plenty of people mount one on an external wall where the wallbox itself lives, so the cable hangs clear of the ground between charges.

Hanging a cable rather than coiling it on the floor is worth doing for practical reasons, not just tidiness. A lead lying on concrete sits in whatever water and grit collects there, and that is exactly what you do not want near the connector pins. Off the ground, it drains and dries.

Give some thought to height before you drill. Mount it so the hanging loop of cable clears the floor with room to spare, and close enough to the charge point that you are not carrying the connector across the garage each time. Most people end up somewhere around shoulder height, just to one side of the unit.

The holder suits a tethered cable that stays with the charge point, and it works just as well for a portable lead you keep at home. If your cable travels in the car instead, a cable bag is the accessory you want.

What is this holder for?

It is a wall mounted hanger that holds a coiled EV charging cable off the ground. It is not a bag or a case. If you want something to carry a lead in the boot of the car, look at our cable bags instead. This is for a cable that stays put at home beside the charge point.

How big is the bracket?

It measures about 12.4 x 8.8 x 7 cm and weighs 264g. Please allow 1 to 2 cm variation, since these are measured by hand. It is deliberately compact, so it sits beside a wallbox without taking over the wall, while still being deep enough for a coiled lead to sit on.

What is it made from?

Metal. That matters for a hanger, because a coiled charging cable has real weight and a plastic hook tends to sag or snap eventually. Metal keeps its shape and holds the load. The listing does not state a specific finish or coating, so we will not quote one here.

Can I mount it outside?

Yes, it is described for indoor or outdoor use, so an external wall next to the wallbox is a normal place to fit one. Choose a spot under any available shelter if you have the option, and mount it high enough that the hanging loop of cable stays clear of standing water.

Will it work with a tethered cable?

Yes, and that is one of the most common uses. A tethered lead is wired permanently into the charge point, so it cannot be put away in a bag. Hanging it on a bracket beside the unit keeps it off the floor, out of the way of feet and tyres, and quick to grab.

Do I need one if I already have a cable bag?

Many drivers use both, because they solve different problems. The bag is for a cable that travels in the boot for public charging. The bracket is for the lead that lives at home. If you own two cables, one of each stops you unpacking a bag every night.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

    A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

    This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
