Product Description

An EV charging cable bag is one of those purchases nobody plans and everybody eventually makes. The cable comes with the car, it gets tossed into the boot, and within a couple of months there is a permanent damp patch on the carpet and a black smear on every bag of shopping that touches it. A proper case ends that.

Ours is a hardback design with a zipped opening. The zip is the part that earns its keep day to day. The bag closes completely, so nothing works its way loose while you drive and nothing spills out when you swing it up into the boot. The hard back means the case sits square rather than folding flat under whatever gets loaded on top of it.

It is fully waterproof. Charging happens outdoors, usually in weather, and a lead pulled off a wet public post is going somewhere. Sealing it in the bag keeps that water off the boot floor. The bag is also dust and corrosion resistant, which is the quieter benefit. Grit settling into a connector is what shortens a cable's life, and a closed case keeps it out.

Capacity is up to a 10m charging cable, so a 5m or 10m lead is covered. Carry handles are fitted for lifting it in and out one handed, which is easier than it sounds when the cable inside is wet.

One habit is worth forming alongside the bag. Coil the cable in wide, loose loops rather than winding it tight around your forearm. Tight winding puts a hard bend into the lead right behind each connector, which is the spot that fails first, and a loose coil drops into the bag far more easily anyway.

If your lead is longer than 10 metres, our large storage bag takes up to 15m instead. If you want a rigid shell rather than a hardback bag, look at the hard carry case. UK delivery is free on the next working day.

FAQs

EV Charging Cable Bag FAQs

What size cable does this bag hold?

Up to a 10m charging cable. That covers the two lengths most drivers own, a 5m lead for a wallbox beside the car and a 10m lead for a longer drive or public use. Anything above 10 metres needs our large storage bag, which is rated to 15m.

Can I get a 10m 32A cable in it?

Yes, a 10m 32A lead is exactly what the capacity is quoted against. Coil it in loose, wide loops rather than winding it tightly round your forearm. Loose coils drop in easily, let the zip close without straining, and avoid putting a hard bend into the cable right behind each connector.

Is the bag waterproof or only weather resistant?

The specification for this bag is fully waterproof, not simply showerproof. That means a lead that has come off a soaking charge point can go straight in and stay sealed. It is dust and corrosion resistant too, so the connector pins are protected from the grit that does most of the long term harm.

Will it keep my boot clean?

Yes, and for most buyers that is the whole point. A loose cable drags road salt, water and grit across the boot lining every time it moves. With the lead zipped inside, the mess stays in the bag and your boot floor stays usable for luggage, shopping and everything else you actually carry.

How does it compare with your other cable bags?

Three things separate them. Capacity, which is 10m here and 15m on the large storage bag. Structure, where this is a zipped hardback case and the hard carry case has a rigid shell. Price. Choose on your cable length first, then decide how much crush protection the boot really demands.

Does a bag help protect the cable itself?

It helps in two ways. It keeps water and grit off the pins, which is where corrosion starts, and it stops the lead being dragged around loose and scuffed against tools, tow ropes or a cargo floor. Neither is dramatic, but a cable is an expensive item to replace early.

Sizing guide
  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
