Product Description

For a DS 7 Crossback E-Tense, buy the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. It carries 7.4 kW, which covers every charger rating quoted for this car, so you cannot end up with a lead that holds the car back.

That point needs explaining, because the published figures disagree. DS UK's own material quotes 7.4 kW and a full charge in about one hour 45 minutes. An earlier DS release for the 4x4 300 says 6.6 kW. Some charging guides list 3.6 kW. We would rather show you the disagreement than pick a number and hope you never check. A 32A lead satisfies all three ratings and costs little more than the 16A one, which would halve the speed of a 7.4 kW car.

Be clear on what the car is, too. The E-Tense is a plug-in hybrid, not an electric car. It pairs a petrol engine with a small battery and a Type 2 socket, and no version has rapid charging of any kind. A wallbox or a three pin socket are your only two ways of putting energy in, which makes the cable a more important purchase here than on a car with other options.

Two generations matter. The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense ran from 2019 to 2022, first as the 4x4 300 and later as the front wheel drive 225, both with a 13.2 kWh gross battery. From late 2022 DS dropped the Crossback name, and the facelifted E-Tense 225 and 4x4 360 carry 14.2 kWh. Both take exactly the same cable, so the split only changes how long you wait.

The BlueHDi diesel and PureTech petrol versions have no charging port at all. If there is no socket on your car, no cable will help.

For length, 5m is plenty when the car sits next to the wallbox. Take 10m if you park nose first, share a post at work, or your charge point is on the far wall of a garage. Cables are IP55 rated, or IP67 on the 3 pin version, CE certified, and carry a 2 year manufacturer's warranty with free next working day UK delivery.

FAQs

DS 7 Crossback Charging Cable FAQs

Which cable fits a DS 7 Crossback E-Tense?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and we would choose the 32A version at 7.4 kW. DS quotes 7.4 kW for the E-Tense, with 6.6 kW cited for the original 4x4 300, and a 32A lead handles either. It fills the 13.2 kWh pre-facelift battery in about 1h45m.

Is the DS 7 E-Tense fully electric?

No. It is a plug-in hybrid, with a petrol engine alongside a 13.2 kWh battery on 2019 to 2022 cars and 14.2 kWh after the late 2022 facelift. It uses a Type 2 socket for AC charging and has no rapid charging on any version, so a wallbox or a three pin socket does the work.

How long does a DS 7 E-Tense take to charge?

DS quotes about 1h45m for the 13.2 kWh cars and around 2h00m for the 14.2 kWh facelift, both on a 7.4 kW supply through a 32A cable. Drop to the 16A lead at 3.7 kW and expect 4h00m or 4h15m. A three pin socket at 2.3 kW needs 6h30m to 7h00m.

What charge rate does the DS 7 E-Tense accept?

DS UK publishes 7.4 kW. An earlier release for the 4x4 300 quotes 6.6 kW, and several charging guides list 3.6 kW, so the figure is genuinely disputed. Our 32A cable delivers up to 7.4 kW, so whichever onboard charger your car has, the cable is never the limiting part.

Does the DS 7 diesel need a charging cable?

No. The BlueHDi diesel and PureTech petrol DS 7 and DS 7 Crossback have no charging port, so there is nothing for a cable to plug into. Only the E-Tense plug-in hybrid, from 2019 onwards, carries the Type 2 socket. Check for E-Tense badging before you order.

Is 5m long enough, or should I get 10m?

5m reaches comfortably when the wallbox is within a couple of metres of where the DS 7 parks. Step up to 10m if the charge point sits behind the car, on the opposite side of a garage, or is shared with a neighbour. Both lengths are available in 16A and 32A.

Compatibility

Worth being clear on this: the DS 7 E-Tense is a plug-in hybrid, not an electric car. It has a petrol engine, a small battery and a Type 2 socket, and it has no rapid charging at all, so a wallbox or a three-pin socket are your only options. On the charger rating we would rather show you the disagreement than pick a number: DS UK's own material quotes 7.4 kW and a full charge in about one hour 45 minutes, an earlier DS release for the 4x4 300 says 6.6 kW, and some charging guides list 3.6 kW. A 32A Type 2 cable covers every one of those, which is why we recommend it here. The DS 7 diesel has no charging port.

Sizing guide
  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
