Product Description

Check this before you order anything: the Citroen C-Zero does not take a Type 2 cable. Almost every EV charging lead sold in the UK is Type 2 to Type 2, and none of them will fit. The C-Zero needs a Type 1 to Type 2 cable, with the Type 1 plug on the car end. Buy the 16A one.

The reason is the socket itself. Type 1 is a five pin connector in a round housing. Type 2 has seven pins and a flat top edge. They are not adapters of one another and one will not push into the other, which is where a lot of wasted deliveries come from on cars of this age.

Underneath the badge this is a rebadged Mitsubishi i-MiEV, sold in Britain from 2011 to 2020 alongside its other twin, the Peugeot iOn. Later cars from 2016 changed nothing that matters here. Every one of them holds 14.5 kWh usable, which is tiny by current standards, and every one of them charges through the same small onboard charger. Published figures for that charger vary between roughly 3.3 kW and 3.7 kW depending on which source you read, so we quote both ends rather than pick one.

Either way, 16A is the ceiling the car can reach. A 16A cable delivers 3.7 kW, so it already covers the highest figure anyone quotes. Our 32A version fits the same socket and is perfectly safe, but it cannot make the car pull more than its own charger allows, so it will not save you a minute. Nor is there a three phase choice to weigh up, since Type 1 is single phase by design and a three phase Type 1 cable has never existed.

Expect somewhere between four and a half and five hours from empty on a wallbox. The three pin option is worth taking seriously on a car with this little battery. A Type 1 to 3 Pin lead runs at 2.3 kW and gets the pack from flat to full in about seven hours, which means a household socket is a workable everyday arrangement rather than a last resort.

Both cable styles come in 5m and 10m. Type 1 to Type 2 leads are IP55, the Type 1 to 3 Pin lead is IP67, and everything ships with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery.

Will a Type 2 cable fit a Citroen C-Zero?

No, and this is the most common mistake made on this car. The C-Zero has a five pin Type 1 inlet, while a standard Type 2 plug has seven pins and simply will not enter it. You need a Type 1 to Type 2 lead, which puts Type 2 into the charge point and Type 1 into the car.

Which amperage should a C-Zero owner buy?

16A. The onboard charger sits somewhere around 3.3 kW to 3.7 kW depending on the source, and a 16A cable already carries 3.7 kW, so it covers the highest published figure. The 32A version is compatible and safe, but with 14.5 kWh to fill the car finishes at the same time either way.

Yes. With only 14.5 kWh to replace, a Type 1 to 3 Pin cable at 2.3 kW completes a full charge in roughly seven hours, so an overnight plug in a garage keeps the car going without a wallbox. Many C-Zero owners use one as their main method rather than a backup.

Does a C-Zero cable fit the i-MiEV and iOn?

Yes. The C-Zero is a rebadged Mitsubishi i-MiEV, and Peugeot sold the same car as the iOn. All three share the 14.5 kWh battery and the Type 1 inlet, so one cable covers any of them. That matters if you bought your C-Zero used and it arrived without its original lead.

Is 5m long enough for a C-Zero?

Five metres reaches comfortably when the charge point is beside the parking space, and it coils away neatly in a car this size. Pick ten metres if you park on the street, share a driveway, or expect to use public posts where the bay position is out of your hands.

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
