Type 2 to Type 2, 32A three phase, 22 kW (5m / 10m)

Two different cars share this page. The Q3 e-hybrid of 2025 onwards accepts 11 kW, and a three phase cable is the only way to reach it, at a three phase post. The 45 TFSI e of 2021 to 2024 stops at 3.6 kW and cannot use it.

Charging at home? The supply here is single phase. On the e-hybrid the 32A single phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) delivers the full 7.4 kW a house can give. On the 45 TFSI e the 16A cable (5m / 10m) is all the car will ever take.

An Audi Q3 plug-in hybrid takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Two very different cars wear the badge, and they do not want the same cable, so check which one is on your driveway before you order.

The Q3 45 TFSI e of 2021 to 2024, in SUV and Sportback form, has a 13 kWh battery and a 3.6 kW onboard charger. Audi quotes three hours 45 minutes from empty. That is the slowest charger Audi has fitted to a plug-in hybrid, and it means the 16A cable gives the car everything it can take. A 32A cable charges it no faster and costs more.

The Q3 e-hybrid launched in 2025 is a different proposition. Its battery nearly doubled to 19.7 kWh usable, worth up to 73 miles, and the charger went up to 11 kW. A British house is single phase and tops out at 7.4 kW, so the 32A single phase cable is the home buy and fills it in about three hours. The three phase cable is what unlocks the full 11 kW at a three phase post, and takes that three hours down to two.

Telling them apart is easy once you know. Audi badged the old car 45 TFSI e and the new one e-hybrid, and the newer car quotes an electric range in the seventies rather than the low thirties. A petrol TFSI, a diesel TDI or an RS Q3 has no charging port at all.

On length, 5m is enough when you park nose in beside the charge point and 10m covers everything else, including public bays where the post can end up on the far side of the car. Measure the route the cable takes round the bodywork rather than the straight line.

Which charging cable does an Audi Q3 need?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and the amperage depends on the year. A Q3 45 TFSI e from 2021 to 2024 needs only the 16A version, because its charger stops at 3.6 kW. A Q3 e-hybrid from 2025 takes 11 kW, so the 32A single phase cable is the home buy and the three phase cable is worth having if you use three phase posts.

Will a 22kW cable charge an Audi Q3 faster?

On the 2025 Q3 e-hybrid it will, but only at a charge point fed by three live phases, where the car reaches its full 11 kW and fills in about two hours instead of three. At home the supply is single phase and the ceiling is 7.4 kW whatever cable you plug in. On the older 45 TFSI e a 22 kW cable makes no difference at all.

How long does an Audi Q3 TFSI e take to charge?

Audi quotes three hours 45 minutes from empty for the 45 TFSI e on a 3.6 kW supply, and about five hours from a three pin plug. The newer Q3 e-hybrid has a much larger battery and needs around three hours on a 7.4 kW home wallbox, or two hours where three phases are available.

Is the Q3 e-hybrid the same as the Q3 45 TFSI e?

No. Audi replaced the 45 TFSI e with the Q3 e-hybrid in 2025 and changed almost everything about the charging. The battery went from 13 kWh to 19.7 kWh usable, the electric range went from around 30 miles to as much as 73, and the onboard charger went from 3.6 kW to 11 kW.

Does every Audi Q3 need a charging cable?

No. Only the 45 TFSI e and the e-hybrid plug in. A petrol TFSI, a diesel TDI and the RS Q3 have no charging port, and trim level makes no difference on the cars that do. If there is no second flap on the bodywork, the car does not take a cable.

What length Q3 charging cable should I buy?

5m suits a wallbox close to where you park and on the same side as the charging flap. 10m is the safer general choice, and the one to pick for public bays or a box on the opposite wall. The longer cable never charges any slower, so the only cost of buying long is the price and a little more to coil away.

Compatibility

Only a 45 TFSI e or an e-hybrid badge plugs in. A petrol TFSI, diesel TDI or RS Q3 has no charging port. Trim level makes no difference to charging.

Audi changed the car completely in 2025. The 45 TFSI e has the slowest charger Audi ever fitted to a plug-in hybrid at 3.6 kW, so the cheaper 16A cable is genuinely all it needs. The Q3 e-hybrid that replaced it takes 11 kW, and on that car a 32A cable is money well spent.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
