Product Description

The Kia Niro PHEV is one of the latest in an increasingly strong selection of fuel-electric plug-in hybrid cars available in the UK. Reviewers rate it highly as it offers the best of both worlds, combining popular crossover-style looks with exemplary hybrid efficiency. The Niro is a very appealing car that is also available as a self-charging hybrid or as a full-blown EV for those drivers for whom range isn’t a problem. Check that the car has the correct charging cable. With a passenger-centric design emphasis is placed on the interior and overall the PHEV variant offers excellent efficiency.

Kia Niro PHEV  Charging Cable FAQs

Which Charging Cable should you buy for the Kia Niro PHEV?

The most suitable charging cable for the Kia Niro is a Type 2 to Type 2 cable which will attach to all UK commercial charging stations, home charging stations and, smart charging stations. To charge the car at its maximum rate you would require at least a 32amp, 1 Phase, charging cable. This will allow you to charge your car in 8 hours and 30 minutes.

What is the difference between the Kia Niro EV Cables?

The biggest difference is between:

  • Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable: One end of this Kia Niro charging cable plugs into your ev charging station and the other plugs into the electric car.
  • Type 2 to 3 Pin charging cable: The difference with this portable Kia Niro charging cable is that one end plugs into a standard UK socket and the other plugs into your car. This means that as long as you have access to a UK plug socket, you will be able to charge your Kia Niro.
How does the Kia Niro PHEV drive?

It’s a relaxed car and no different in that respect to regular crossovers. Like most plug-in hybrid vehicles the emphasis is on the economy.

Does the Kia Niro PHEV work as an electric-only car?

Most assuredly. In fact, it excels in this regard. An 8.9 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack is paired with a powerful 44.5 kW electric motor These in turn are paired with Kia’s efficient 1.6L four-cylinder GDI engine, which independently produces 103bhp. The total power and torque output for the Niro PHEV is 139bhp with just 29g/km emissions. In pure EV mode, Kia suggests 30+ miles is achievable, making local journeys a cinch.

Is it easy to charge?

Yes. As with most others of this type charging is straightforward at home, work or in public locations. Up to an 80% charge should be achievable in around three hours. This car may charge faster when using a Type 2 1-phase 32A charging cable which can be purchased from  EV Cable Shop.

Is the Kia Niro PHEV cheap to run?

Kia state that just over 200 miles to the gallon should be possible, although this would have to be in perfect conditions and the car drove appropriately.
