Product Description

Only one Leon takes a charging cable, and the year it was built decides how much cable you need. The plug-in is the e-HYBRID. Nothing else in the range has a socket. The eTSI is a 48 volt mild hybrid that refills itself from the engine, and TSI petrol and TDI diesel cars have no charging port at all. If the tailgate does not read e-HYBRID, no cable on this page will fit your car.

Leon e-HYBRID models built from 2020 to 2024 use the 1.4 TSI 204PS drivetrain, a 12.8 kWh pack holding around 10.6 kWh usable, and a 3.6 kW onboard charger. That charger is slow by any measure, which means a 16A Type 2 to Type 2 cable is everything the car is able to draw. A 32A lead plugs into the same socket and works perfectly, but the car simply ignores the extra headroom. Save the difference unless a quicker car is joining the household. These early cars have no rapid charging either, so AC is your only option.

The 2024 facelift is a different machine. The 1.5 TSI e-HYBRID holds 19.7 kWh usable from a 25.8 kWh pack and charges at 11 kW, which is unusual on a plug-in hybrid of any make. It also gained CCS rapid charging at 50 kW. British homes are wired single phase, so that 11 kW charger draws 7.4 kW on a domestic wallbox, and the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the one to buy. The full 11 kW only appears at a three phase charge point, where the 32A three phase lead is what unlocks it.

Length comes down to where the car sits. A 5m cable suits a wallbox within a car length of the charging flap. 10m gives you slack for kerbside parking, a garage where the unit is behind you, or a post shared across two bays.

Does my Seat Leon need a charging cable?

Only if it is badged e-HYBRID. That is the sole Leon with a Type 2 socket. Petrol TSI, diesel TDI and the 48 volt eTSI all lack a charging port, so no cable will connect to them. Check the badge on the tailgate before ordering, since the eTSI is regularly mistaken for a plug-in.

Which cable suits a 2020 to 2024 e-HYBRID?

The 16A Type 2 to Type 2 lead. That generation has a 3.6 kW onboard charger, so it fills its 10.6 kWh usable battery in about 3 hours 33 minutes and cannot go faster whatever you plug in. A 32A cable is safe and fits the same socket, but it buys you no extra speed on this car.

What changed on the 2024 Leon e-HYBRID?

Almost everything about charging. The battery grew to 19.7 kWh usable from 25.8 kWh gross, the onboard charger tripled to 11 kW, and CCS rapid charging at 50 kW was added. That makes the 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable the right buy, since 7.4 kW is what a UK home supply can deliver into it.

How long does the Leon take to charge?

A 2020 to 2024 car takes roughly 3 hours 33 minutes from flat, and a three pin lead stretches that to around 5 hours 15 minutes. The 2024 facelift needs about 3 hours on a 32A cable at 7.4 kW, or 2 hours 30 minutes at a three phase point where it draws the full 11 kW.

Is the Leon eTSI a plug-in hybrid?

No. The eTSI is a 48 volt mild hybrid, on sale since 2020, and its small battery is charged by the engine as you drive. There is no socket and no way to plug it in. It is the version most often confused with the e-HYBRID, so it is worth a look at the badge before buying.

Should I choose a 5m or 10m cable?

Pick 5m if your wallbox is mounted within a car length of the Leon charging flap and you always park the same way. Go for 10m if you charge at the kerb, reverse into a garage, or share a public post between bays. The longer lead removes the guesswork for a small extra cost.

Compatibility

Only one Leon plugs in, and its charger doubled in 2024, so both the badge and the year matter. The Leon e-HYBRID is the plug-in. The first generation, with a 12.8 kWh battery, has a slow 3.6 kW charger and no rapid charging, so a 16A cable is genuinely all it can use. The 2024 car is a different proposition: a 19.7 kWh usable battery, an 11 kW charger and CCS rapid charging, which is unusual on a plug-in hybrid of any brand. Everything else in the range has no socket. In particular the Leon eTSI is a mild hybrid that charges itself from the engine, and it is the version most often mistaken for a plug-in.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
