Type 2 to Type 2, 32A three phase, 22 kW (5m / 10m)

The Renault Kangoo accepts up to 22 kW on AC. The Z.E. 33 van is 7 kW and the E-Tech from 2022 goes up to 22 kW. The 22 kW cable matches the highest rate the model reaches, and a three-phase supply is where that rate is actually reachable.

If it only ever charges at home, buy down. A house supply is single phase, so the ceiling is 7.4 kW, and the 32A single-phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) hands over every watt of it.

Three electric Kangoos have been sold in the UK and they do not all take the same cable, so check the year on your V5 before ordering.

The Kangoo Z.E. 33, built from 2017 to 2021, is the van this page is written for. It uses a Type 2 inlet with a 7.4 kW onboard charger, so a Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 32A is what you want. Its 31 kWh usable battery goes from flat to full in about 4 hours 45 minutes, so a van back at the yard at six in the evening is ready long before the first job.

The current Kangoo E-Tech, from 2022, is also Type 2 but carries a 22 kW three phase charger and a 45 kWh usable battery. On a single phase supply, which is what almost every house and small unit has, you get 7.4 kW and about 6 hours 45 minutes. If your depot genuinely has three phase power, the 22kW cable is one of the few real upgrades on the market: the same battery fills in roughly 2 hours 15 minutes, which turns a lunch break into a useful charge.

The older Kangoo Z.E. of 2011 to 2017 is the exception. It uses a Type 1 socket and none of the cables on this page will plug into it. You need a Type 1 to Type 2 cable, which is a separate product. Neither of the two older vans has any rapid charging, so AC is all you have.

Length matters more on a van than on a car. A Kangoo reversed against a wall, parked behind another vehicle, or sharing a yard post with a colleague can easily need more than five metres. 10m is the safe choice for depot and kerbside work, while 5m is fine if the van always sits nose in beside its own charge point. We also stock 15m and 20m for larger sites, and the longer leads coil into the load bay without eating shelf space.

Diesel and petrol Kangoos have no charging port and need nothing from us.

Which cable fits a Renault Kangoo Z.E. 33 van?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 32A. The Z.E. 33, sold from 2017 to 2021, has a 7.4 kW onboard charger and a 31 kWh usable battery, so a 32A lead takes it from empty to full in about 4 hours 45 minutes. A 16A cable would nearly double that for no good reason.

Will this cable fit a 2015 Kangoo Z.E.?

No. Kangoos built between 2011 and 2017 use a Type 1 socket, and every cable on this page ends in a Type 2 plug. You need a Type 1 to Type 2 cable, which we list as a separate product. Those vans charge at 3.7 kW, hold 22 kWh, and have no rapid charging at all.

Can I charge a Kangoo overnight at the depot?

Comfortably. A Z.E. 33 on a 32A cable is full in roughly 4 hours 45 minutes, and a Kangoo E-Tech on a single phase supply takes about 6 hours 45 minutes. Both fit inside a normal overnight stand, so vans plugged in at five in the afternoon are ready for a first job.

Is a three phase cable worth it for a Kangoo E-Tech?

Yes, if the depot has three phase power. The E-Tech is one of very few vans with a 22 kW onboard charger, and on a three phase post its 45 kWh battery goes from empty to full in around 2 hours 15 minutes rather than 6 hours 45 minutes. On a single phase supply it changes nothing.

What length cable should I buy for a yard?

10m for most working vans. A shared yard post is rarely where you want to park, and reversing against a wall or sitting behind another vehicle eats the slack fast. 5m is enough only when the van always parks nose in beside its own charge point. We stock 15m and 20m for larger sites.

Does the diesel Kangoo need a charging cable?

No. Petrol and diesel Kangoos of any year have no charging port, so nothing here will connect to them. Only the Z.E., the Z.E. 33 and the E-Tech electric vans plug in. If you cannot find a charging flap on the front or the wing of your van, it is not an electric model.

Compatibility

Three different electric Kangoos have been sold here and they take three different cables, so check the year before ordering. The Phase 1 Kangoo Z.E. of 2011 to 2017 uses a Type 1 socket, which will not accept the Type 2 cable that fits almost everything else. The Phase 2 Kangoo Z.E. 33 of 2017 to 2021 moved to Type 2 with a 7.4 kW charger. And the current Kangoo E-Tech is Type 2 with a 22 kW charger, one of the few vans on the market where a three-phase cable is a genuine upgrade at a depot with three-phase power. Neither of the two older vans has any rapid charging at all.

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
